"Cozy!" her grandma called in a loud whisper. "I'm in the kitchen. Hurry!" Cozy frowned, and her heart leapt as worry consumed her for a moment. Yet as she hurried to the kitchen to find her grandma kneeling at the window that faced the new neighbor's yard and peering out with a pair of binoculars, she exhaled a sigh of relief. "Grandma! You're still spying on him?" she giggled. "Get down! They'll see us. Get down!" Dottie ordered in a whisper, waving one hand in a gesture that Cozy should duck. Giggling with amusement at her grandma's latest antics, Cozy dropped to her hands and knees and crawled toward the window. "Who'll see us?" she asked. "Here," Dottie whispered, pausing only long enough to reach for a second set of binoculars sitting on the nearby counter. "These are for you." She smiled at Cozy and winked as a grin of mischief spread over her face. "And now, may I present the entertainment for this evening-Mr. Buckly 'Hunk of Burning Love' Bryant...and company." "And company?" Cozy asked, accepting the binoculars. Slowly she rose to her knees, peering through the binoculars as she began to adjust them. Mr. Bryant came into focus. He was raking more leaves, but this time he had assistance. Cozy felt her mouth drop open-audibly gasped at the sight of the man helping him. "I know!" Dottie whispered. "Va va va voom, right?" "Holy cow!" Cozy exclaimed as she adjusted the binoculars further. "Who is that?" "I have no idea," Dottie answered. "But he's something you don't see every day, right?" Cozy watched as the man, much younger than Mr. Bryant, picked up another piece of wood and set it on a chopping stump. The man splitting the wood had discarded his shirt somewhere, providing a perfect view of the sculpted muscles of his back and arms to Cozy and her grandma...
Born in Albuquerque, New Mexico, Marcia Lynn McClure grew up influenced by the reminiscent stories of rugged, rural Colorado farm life fascinatingly recounted to her by her parents, grandparents, uncles and aunts…tales of runaway buckboards, mule-drawn plows and dust pneumonia; verbalized images of stream-flooded meadows, frozen over in winter, where a child could peer through the crystal clear ice in wonder at the small fish, snakes and mice sealed in the meadow grasses beneath; stories of hardship and tragedy, love and loss. But always the stories, and the people telling them, bore evidence of the wonder and worthiness of simpler, yet sometimes brutal, times.
These influential people and the family legends they detailed, coupled with her own life experiences and utterly romantic nature, led Marcia to begin writing novels as Christmas gifts for her closest friends…friends who long for a breath of the past and miss the romance of bygone eras; friends searching for moments of distraction from the stressful, demanding times we live in.
And so, knowing that it is the breath of the past and the "take me in you arms and kiss me" kind of moments that so many women long to relive, Marcia spins her tales of love, life and laughter…adventures woven around those compelling, romantic instances that most appeal to a woman's loving heart. Marcia feels that if her readers close one of her books with a contented sigh and a delighted smile, feeling rejuvenated, cheerful and edified, then she has achieved what she set out to do…shower refreshment and happiness on anyone having experienced the story.
Marcia lives in Rio Rancho, New Mexico. There she writes her stories surrounded by her beloved friends and family...and the beautiful desert landscape of New Mexico!
I'm pretty sure this is My FAVORITE E-book ever. It was won over by the kissing scenes...delish! Oh and the Wolfish man, Christmas light paradise scenes and the cracked candle votives. Need to try the almonds!
(12/13) I really LOVE this story!!! Such a cute, holiday story without any stress.
*(12/11) I did it! I re-read this during the holidays and it was every bit as fun and sweet as the first time.
* (7/11) A sweet holiday romance. Marcia weaves a truly romantic tale (times two!) in this story. Cozy Robbins is such a sweet, old-fashioned girl and Jesse is such a manly old-fashioned guy. What a perfect match! I love the little tidbits thrown in--orange almond punch, mulled apple cider, walnut ornaments, raspberry almonds. Perfect! I will definitely re-read this during the holidays.
It almost feels blasphemous to give a Marcia book only three stars, but I prefer her historical romances. The endearing cheese just seems to work better when the setting is not contemporary. However, this will put a smile on your face if you're looking for a sweet, clean romance to encourage some Christmas cheer.
I love this book!! There is some mild swearing, but otherwise very clean. I think one reason I like it so well is because I could picture my grandmother doing a lot of things Cozy’s grandmother did. I read it every couple of years or as part of my Christmas time escapes.
9/4/22 I love this book. I love the little ornaments that Cozy makes which are little walnut shells and a seriously perfect character name for this book. I also love the fact that the grandma gets with the grandpa and the grandson gets with the granddaughter. I mean how awesome is that? This grandma so reminds me of my grandma. It's so cute and I love it!
Other years Sweet, fun, and of course a great love story. Reminds me of my grandma.
I enjoyed this more the second time again. It was charming and cute and just a simply fun read.
Love the walnut Christmas detailed ornaments. CUtest two Christmas love stories, ever! Grandma and granddaughter to yummies, so cute!
This was the perfect book to read on Christmas afternoon. I started it 3 weeks ago when it was released but have had no time to read since then. Finishing Take A Walk With Me was first on my list of things to do this afternoon.
I loved this book just as I've loved everything Marcia Lynn McClure has written. A wonderful holiday romance. Can't wait until this gets turned into a full length book. Such fun characters in this sweet romance.
I think I need to find recipes for raspberry almonds, mulled cider and orange almond punch
6/19/13 - Just a wonderful, romantic story with a hot guy. What more could you ask for?
8/30/12- So cute, and romantic. I just wished instead of like 90 some odd pages it would have been 190.
And I wished it was December and I was reading it in front of a fire with my Christmas tree twinkling in the room. I'll have to re-read it during the holdiays.
Moral Note: Passionate kisses, language (heck, dang, a$$, and a couple cut off swear words)
I absolutely loved this book! It was so wonderful to take a break from freaking out about finals to read such a happy, heart-warming book. I smiled and giggled tons throughout the book. I LOVED it! It is probably one of my favorite romances ever! I will definitely being reading it ever year from now on. :D
I read this tonight as I sat on my couch with my warm corn bags in front of my lit Christmas tree snuggled up in a blanket with hot apple cider. Such a FABULOUS holiday romance...I thoroughly enjoyed my evening...every last page of it. :)
LOVED this book!! Jesse was so wolfish and delish!! Loved the romance with Dottie and Buck too!! Marcia did it again with a wonderful love story with great kissing!! Another favorite....ok, they all are!!This is definitely a must read!!
Oh my gosh! Marcia definitely is the queen of kissing! This book definitely made me salivate, in more ways than one. This was such a fun, light-hearted, holiday book. It made me all warm and fuzzy and in the mood to snuggle in front of a fire. Thanks for another great book Marcia!
Light, fun, lots of kissing, romance that is predictable. What more do you want in a Christmas chick lit? Oh yeah, throw in delightful romance with grandparents and you have a great Christmas read.
I love that many of her her romances are stories where nothing happens. I was just commenting to my husband the other day how depressing our lives would be if they were like a novel where there is conflict after conflict after conflict in order to drive a plot. Sometimes romance blooms quickly and sometimes it takes longer. But most of the time it's just a natural process like this book. Today it was refreshing to read a romance without overdone conflict.
“Grandma?” Cozy called as she closed the front door behind her. She inhaled a deep breath—bathing in the warm, inviting scent of banana nut bread baking in the oven. “Grandma? Are you in here?” “Cozy!” her grandma called in a loud whisper. “I’m in the kitchen. Hurry!” Cozy frowned—her heart leapt as worry consumed her for a moment. Yet, as she hurried to the kitchen to find her grandma kneeling at the window that faced the new neighbors yard, and peering out with a pair of binoculars, she exhaled a sigh of relief. “Grandma! You’re still spying on him?” she giggled. “Get down! They’ll see us! Get down!” Dottie ordered in a whisper, waving one hand in a gesture that Cozy should duck. Giggling with amusement at her grandma’s latest antics, Cozy dropped to her hands and knees and crawled toward the window. “Who’ll see us?” she asked. “Here,” Dottie whispered, pausing only long enough to reach for a second set of binoculars sitting on the nearby counter. “These are for you.” She smiled at Cozy—winked as a grin of mischief spread over her face. “And now…may I present the entertainment for this evening…Mr. Buckly hunk of burning love Bryant…and company.”
WOW!!! This book had some HOT kisses in it! Some of the BEST kisses I have read in a LONG time!
This is a great book!! I absolutely LOVED JESSE and COZY! It makes me happy to read books where the characters have real morals and actually live by them.
Reading this book was like someone telling you how they met their spouse. I liked it. I would really like to purchase one of the little walnut ornaments, they sounded adorable. I love how Marcia always talks about funny little things. I loved the quote about how, "No women should ever give up her Barbies, not completely." This made me think of my sister Karen. Also, I think it is really strange how they changed how Barbie looked because they didn't want little girls obsessing with Barbies weight. They did this right around the time my three girls were playing with Barbies. In my opinion it made all little girls start to notice Barbies weight, because my girls some of both Barbies comments were being made like, " That dress won't fit her, she's the fat Barbie." Isn't interesting how society tries to fix something and they just end up making worse.
I just rereaed this for Swoon Fest, and I think I liked it even better my second time around. Take a Walk with Me really put me in the Christmas mood. I was playing my Christmas music (and it's not even Halloween yet). It also gave me an idea of what to cook for dinner, meatloaf and mashed potatoes, so it was invaluable ;). Really, it was a cute story. I love Cozy and Jesse. I love the scene where he teaches her this is kissing, this is making out. It makes me laugh every time. A light, fun, holiday read.
Content: Clean, kissing, and mild language (5-10 times)
December 2010: This was a fun holiday read. I can picture curling up with some hot chocolate and reading this over the holidays. Anyway, both couples are cute, and it was just a sweet story. I would love to try the almond recipe and buy a walnut ornament!!
I love it, as I love all her books. But as with all (or at least most) her ebooks, I really wish I could proof read them before they come out. All those little errors distract me from the story, but I still love them anyway.
I especially loved the holiday feel of this book :)
You know I always love books my Marcia, so it is no secret that I loved this one as well. This book has not one, but two budding romances to follow...and as usual, lots of good kissing ;) Mix in Thanksgiving, Christmas lights and long walks in the cool Autumn air and you have a cute story.
I love this book!! A great holiday read! I love Grandma Dottie! She and Buckly are awesome!! Jesse and Cozy are great!! I love Marcia's books and wait (very impatiently) for everyone of them!!!
PG Very silly. There was a great deal of winking (by everyone), chuckling (by the men), and giggling (by the women). There was no conflict to speak of. It was about a girl falling in love with a boy, and a grandma-aged woman falling in love with a grandpa-aged man. Usually I adore MLM's Heroes, but I couldn't figure this one out, as he likened himself to a wolf, but exhibited no wolfish tendencies. Not my favorite book by MLM.
I always love reading one of Marcia's books! This one is no exception! A cute love story where men are men and women are women. It is always nice to read clean romantic books that I can share with my teenage daughter and then talk about how fun it was and not what you should not be reading or worrying about in the book. I would recommend this or any of this authors books to anyone.
Good clean old fashioned romance. Heart warming and delightful read. Making romance about romance .
This book is great for anyone who wants to feel the thrill of romance without the worldly spin of trashy meaningless words. Romance Is about romantic moments and heart pumping fun. Thanks
I am a huge sucker for terrible hallmark Christmas movies, and lovey dovey holiday stuff. So, this was 5 stars of mushy awesome. And cute little old people romance...the best
I always love Marcia's books. This one did not disappoint. It was full of everything I always love about her books; romance, great characters, a wonderful hero and happily ever after ending.
