I did not read the summary and study guide of Peace Like a River. For some reason the actual book does not appear. I read the actual book and although reviews were very good for this book, I found it tedious. The story is about the Land family told by a grown up Reuben Land about what happened when his brother Davy shot and killed intruders in their home, was tried and convicted and broke out of jail. Most of the book tell of how the family including 11 year old Reuben, 9 year old Swede and their father try to find Davy as well as outwitting a lawman also on his trail. Davy is a non-person since he's hardly in the book at all and the 11 year old Reuben must be the most precocious 11 year old around--very hard to believe in him. This is a long, long book and although at times the writing is quite lyrical, this too can get tedious.
