Jane is helping a former customer build a new home, he is totally bossy and even though she tries to point out that the lowest price isn’t always the best he ignores her. Louise is involved with a new program through her church setting up a young couple with an older couple. She has them stay at the inn and they all learn something new. Alice is asked to be a paid speaker out of town. She agrees so she will have more money to offer to a family with a new baby. All are acting on the pastor’s advice to step up when God calls you.
A nice addition to this wonderful series about 3 sisters who turn their old Victorian home into a B&B after the death of their father. This book was not one of my favorites, though. Nothing wrong with it; just that the story didn't grab me as much as others in the series.
This one focuses on all three sisters. Alice has been asked to speak at a medical conference in Philadelphia. Louise is at home helping their assistant pastor & his wife test drive a marriage retreat. Jane has being enlisted by a recent widower, who wants to move to Acorn Hill, in helping him in his search for land and a contractor to help him.
Great lessons about stepping outside your comfort zone if/when the Lord calls you to do so. And, as always, no profanity and no sex.
A sweet book about dedicating yourself to God's call. This may be a lifetime call or just for a season. In this book, each of the sisters finds themselves with a new project.... and it happens that each of these projects stretches them out of their comfort zone and causes them to depend more on the Lord to get them through. Something we all need to do in our lives. "'People need to feel productive. That's another given of good stewardship,' Louise said. 'they need not just to serve, but to serve with purpose.'" (pg 20) "'It's not about what we want, Jane. It's about what God wants from us, and for us. That's what we must be ready to act upon,' Louise reminded her with a loving tone.'" (pg 22)
"As Jane got back into her car, she marveled at where Rev. Thompson's sermon had brought her. She tried to recall a quote from C. S. Lewis that she thought Louise had once shared about prayer not changing things but instead changing us. Louise would know the exact quote, or exactly where to find it. Jane wrote the words "prayer changes us" and "C. S. Lewis" on the paper. Then she reread her shorthand version. 'Prayer changes us,' she murmured. She liked that idea. As she drove away from the site, she thought that the same could be said of serving others. It changes us and the world around us. That thought brightened her day." (pg 116-117)
The book has all the familiar, wonderful characters of the rest of the series with a few new visitors to the Inn as usual. Lovely.
I recommend this series for Christian Adults, ladies will especially like this series. It is ok for teens to read but I don't think they would be interested in the stories of Christian middle aged ladies who own an Inn.
