Inside the KGB

The incredible true story of what it's like to work inside the KGB. Containing top-secret KGB documents, here is a revealing look at the life and duties of a KGB officer who grew to despise the system he was sworn to serve. Aleksei Myagkov--now living under a new identity somewhere in the U.S.--tells the shocking story of an organization dedicated to the destruction of capitalism while its high-ranking members enjoy its materialistic luxuries. A world in which the mere mention of the West's advantages can get someone thrown in jail.

is it interesting? yes of course. is it anticommunist propaganda? also of course. the stuff about godless communism can be ignored but the actual information it gives you about the kgb is interesting

Brief account of life in the KGB and Soviet Union in the 1970s from a defector, describing a great deal of corruption and injustice. Makes you wonder whether things are substantially different now, or whether the old patterns of Russian culture have simply persisted into a new era.

The author narrates several situations in his own view which makes the book a bit of his (and his friends’) biographies, instead of “Inside the KGB” itself…
However, still worth it to learn about their processes, corruption, beliefs, etc

An awesome account of the inner politics of the KGB and an overview of how it functions. The way they build up a giant cache of informers is the best part, and is explained in great detail.

Basically the life story of a KGB defector who didn't like the soviet union.

A pretty nice account.

It is a few pages where I think the author was honest. The rest was selling ideas to the West.
