As an Award Winning and International Amazon, Barnes & Noble, and Kobo Best Selling Author, I have always been an avid reader. I joke that I "cut my romance teeth" on the old historical romance books. I’ve written as a hobby for over 30 years. In 2014, I finally gave in to the characters in my head pleading for their story to be told. Thus, Emma's Home was created.
My first novel, Emma's Home became an Amazon Best Seller in 3 categories within the first month of publishing. Its success was followed by the rest of the Fairfield Series and then led into the Love's Series. From there I have continued with the romantic suspense Alvarez Security Series and now the Saints Protection & Investigation Series.
My books are filled with sweet romance and hot sex; mystery, suspense, real life characters and situations. My heroes are alphas, take charge men who love the strong, independent women they fall in love with. I worked as a counselor in a high school and have been involved in education for the past 30 years. I recently retired and now can spend more time devoted to my writing.
I have been married to a wonderfully patient man for 35 years and have 2 adult, very supportive daughters. When writing, my dog or one of my cats will usually be found in my lap!
They may not be blood, but they are the heroes who turn up every day and do the hard stuff. They love you unconditionally and call you on your faults, they support you during the bad and celebrate the good. It has taken Andy a long time to realise this and embrace it, he has spent too long hating those who left rather than loving those who stayed. I love the man he has become, the man who is devastated by his teenage faults, who acknowledges the hurt they caused others and apologizes emotionally and wholeheartedly, ripping his soul out with every word. How can you resist loving him? I am so glad that Ivy has such a huge heart and can look back at their teenage years realistically and accept they were both different people who have learnt from their mistakes and grown from their experiences. They are a couple who love with their heart and soul, they are protectors who have shown so much growth and self awareness, they are perfect for each other. This is one of my favourite of all the Baytown books from both series.
Needing a Hero is book 4 in the Baytown Heroes series by Maryann Jordan and while I have read other series by her, this is my 1st Baytown Heroes book and I most certainly will be going back to get the others in this series.
Andy Bergstrom and Ivy Watkins were classmates in high school where Andy had issues and kind of took it out on Ivy by calling her “Poison Ivy”…fast forward to Ivy moving back to town…
So much is happening in this story…Andy’s life growing up, issues with Ivy, coming to grips with his childhood, seeing Ivy again, regrets, chemistry, compassion, family along with some drug smuggling, suspense, kidnapping and more…can’t wait for the next book in this series!
Needing a Hero (Baytown Heroes, Book 4) is the story of Andy Bergstom and Ivy Watkins. Andy works for the Virginia Marine Police. He was a very angry teen. His mom left his family when he was young. Andy and his brother, Aaron were raised by his dad who provided a very loving home. Andy and Ivy attended the same school. He is partnered with Ivy on several school projects, so he is at her house while they (really just Ivy) work on the projects. When he sees her loving family, in particular her loving Mom, he turns his anger onto Ivy and starts bullying her and continues his bullying throughout high school. Ivy was the smart girl in school. Ivy was very hurt by Andy’s bullying, but she graduated and left for college. She is now returning home and is due to start a job with the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel. As she is crossing the bridge, she sees a man pulled over with a baby in his arms. As she is wondering why he is pulled over, she sees him acting erratically and dangling the baby over the bridge. She calls 911, then gets out of the car to see what she can do to help until emergency crews arrive. Andy is on duty when dispatch alerts his team to the 911 call that Ivy placed and heads the boat in that direction and positions their boat just by the bridge in case the baby is dropped. There are other personnel there also, who each are positioned around the bridge in case someone goes over. He is watching as Ivy is trying to help this man and is really impressed with her. The man sets the baby down, then jumps off the bridge, but Ivy is trying to stop him, and she goes over with him. Andy saves Ivy, and immediately senses a connection with her. Andy drives her home from the hospital the next day and when he sees where she lives, he is surprised that the woman is Ivy, the girl he bullied in school. He rushes her inside and then leaves. He goes home and tries to figure out how Ivy will react when he tells him who he is, and if she will let him apologize and explain his poor behavior to Ivy in school. That’s all I am saying, so I don’t spoil it for anyone. This is a beautiful story about a boy who is angry with the world thanks to his mom leaving, who turns into an incredible man, and a girl, who was hurt deeply by this boy, who reunites with the man he has become. She is very saddened to hear why he turned his anger on her and can see that he is truly sorry for what he did to her and accepts his apology. They have amazing chemistry, and to follow them as they fall in love was wonderful. You also have this suspense going on. This book grabbed me on page one and did not let go until the very last page. I love that the characters from the other books in the series make an appearance. I highly recommend Needing a Hero. You will not be disappointed. Thank you, Maryann Jordan for another hit! I received an ARC copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
This is book four in The Baytown Heroes and it is Andy and Ivy’s story and omg it is definitely a must read. Ivy is returning back to her roots and she has taken a job as a system engineer and was really looking forward to starting her job after being away at college but then while driving over the bridge she sees a man dangling a baby on the bridge and before Ivy could think about what she was doing she called the emergency services and then she was out of her car to see if she could talk the man down and get the baby to safety. Andy works for the Virginia Marine Police after leaving the navy and returning home but when they get the call about a jumper on the bridge and a baby was involved everyone was on edge and high alert then the baby was placed down and the man jumped off the bridge taken the woman that was trying to save him with him and without thinking Andy jumped in to save her. When Ivy and Andy meet again they realise that they had bad history together while at school and that needed to be resolved by Andy’s apology. The more time that Ivy and Andy spend together the stronger their feelings and chemistry grows between them but will it be enough for them to get happiness and a future together. Danger is just around the corner watching and waiting for the right time to strike and it is Ivy who is in the crosshairs and in danger leaving Andy having to watch everything unfold but can Ivy be strong and brave yet again to get herself out of this dangerous situation and can Andy save her when the time comes getting everyone out alive, we’ll you will just have to read this amazing book to find out. Wow I absolutely loved this book and I couldn’t put it down and read it in one sitting until the early hours of the morning and the storyline pulled you in and had you turning the pages and on the edge of my seat while holding your breath wondering what the outcome would be and it was so addictive and kept your attention throughout the whole book. What an absolutely beautiful couple Ivy and Andy are after everything that they had both been through and I love getting the updates on all the other characters as it makes you feel like you are there with them and part of there story. I definitely recommend you read this book and others by MaryAnn Jordan who is an amazing author and writer you will not be disappointed as she certainly knows how to keep her readers attention.
Needing a Hero (Baytown Heroes #4) continues this excellent offshoot series from Maryann Jordan that I am thoroughly enjoying. I loved both the characters of Andy and Ivy and their full circle relationship. Andy was a teenager full of anger and hurt at his mother’s desertion that made him lash out and bully the undeserving Ivy as he viewed her having the seemingly perfect family life he didn’t. Andy joined the Navy after school and that helped him process his feelings and grow into the man he was meant to be - strong, upstanding, kind and protective, now putting all his skills to use as a member of the Virginia Marine Police. Ivy blossomed into a strong, kind and smart woman with a golden soul, whose questioning and analytical nature have turned her into a successful engineer. She is returning home to start a new job with the Chesapeake Bay Bridge - Tunnel. Whilst crossing the bridge Ivy steps in to try and resolve a life threatening situation without a second thought to her own safety. When she ends up in the water Andy is the one to save her and feels an immediate spark for the brave injured woman. Neither recognised each other at first but Andy quickly realises that the woman he rescued and is attracted too is none other than the girl he cruelly tormented at school and immediately knows he must apologise for the way he treated her. Andy doesn’t make excuses for his behaviour but is truly heartfelt in his apology. Ivy doesn’t hold a grudge, she can see the man he has become and is able to forgive and leave the past behind, two wonderful characters who are straightforward about what they want and able to move on towards it. Ivy is drawn into a drug smuggling case that local law enforcement agencies including Andy’s Team are investigating when everything points to one her colleagues being involved, danger threatens and whilst Ivy is definitely no slouch at saving herself she might just need her hero to pull her to safety again. Great story, wonderful characters, excellent series, I highly recommend you read it. I received an arc from the author and I am voluntarily leaving my honest review.
Andy and Ivy grew up together. Unfortunately, when they were in high school, Andy made her life miserable. He bullied her every time he saw her.
Now, twelve years later, Ivy has returned to Baytown, to start a new job and live near her family. Andy works for the Virginia Marine Police. He and his team are sent to help a woman who is risking her own life to save a baby. When she accidentally falls into Chesapeake Bay, Andy jumps in to rescue her. He is instantly attracted to her and realizes that he needs to see her again.
Unfortunately, when Andy takes her home from the hospital, he realizes that this woman is Ivy, the girl he tormented when they were in high school. Andy knows that, unless he can explain his circumstances during high school and apologize for his behavior, he will never stand a chance with Ivy. He must convince Ivy that he is no longer that jerk who used to make her life miserable.
It is difficult for readers to like Andy when we realize what a jerk he was to Ivy in high school. However, after he rescues her from the Bay, he goes out of his way to take care of her and keep her calm even before he realizes who she is. At that point, it is difficult to dislike him anymore. There is no doubt that he has changed!
Andy does a fantastic job of explaining why he was so mean to Ivy in high school. Readers will take great pleasure in the awesome way Andy apologizes and grovels to Ivy. Readers will fall in love with Andy as he honestly tells Ivy his background and proves to Ivy that he is one of the “good guys.”
The chemistry between Andy and Ivy is unbelievably off-the-chart! It is great fun to watch them fall in love with each other. Meantime, Ivy finds herself in the middle of a very dangerous situation. The only person who can save her is Andy.
This book will keep you on the edge of your seat with its non-stop action, riveting intrigue, sweet romance and hot, loving sex.
Needing a Hero is book #4 in the Baytown Heroes series. The book is in the enemies to lovers category. Ivy and Andy were definitely not friends in high school, more like Andy bullied Ivy. Times change and people grow up. Andy joined the Navy and worked on his strong feelings that center around his mom walking out on them. Ivy graduated as valedictorian and went to University away from the eastern shore to become an engineer. Ivy is on her way back to the eastern shore to start a new job, crossing the Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel, when she encounters a situation. A man is standing by the edge of the bridge holding a baby and seems agitated. Ivy calls the situation into the authorities and goes to try to diffuse the situation. After ending up in the bay she is rescued by Andy and other members of the Virginia Marine Police. Neither of them recognize each other at the time. After finally recognizing Ivy, Andy is determined to apologize for his high school self. I love how the characters grow in their own lives as well as in their relationship. Andy has to come to grips with his mom leaving and Ivy has to deal with being bullied, being smart and being a woman in a traditionally male field. Loved the realization that "family wasn't about who left. Family was about who stayed. Who didn't mind getting their hands dirty when needed. Who didn't mind the hard work it took to take care of each other. Who stepped up, stepped in, and stayed. Family was the heroes who earned their place at the table by being there when needed." Loved this book and would highly recommend you give it a read.
What a beautiful and heartwarming story. The character truly open their hearts and arms to you from the beginning. It’s such a pleasure to go back to Baytown and catch up with old friends too. It’s like the stress and strains of life disappear as you enter Baytown and her body just lets go because it’s home.
Andy had been a child fuelled by anger and hurt. You can understand his less than stellar behaviour to others, children process pain and anger differently than adults, they get overwhelmed and sometimes it becomes directed at those undeserving of such behaviour. I’m Not saying that’s an excuse but the reasoning behind his childhood behaviour is understandable and Maryann Jordan portrayed this absolutely perfectly.
Seeing the man he has grown into was awe inspiring. Allowing his fathers morals and strength to infiltrate his sounded soul and the strength the Navy gave him Andy became a strong and kind man with a moral Compass pointing pure north.
Ivy is a beautiful character. Kindness seeps through every part of her soul to fill you with a feeling of lightness. Watching the way in which she leaves their past behind and see Andy for the wonderful man he is now was so heartwarming and a testament to her pure soul.
This is a wonderful journey of discovery, acceptance and a deep seated love that knows no bounds.
As always, Maryann Jordan has surpassed herself in this compellingly beautiful and heartwarming read.
Cannot recommend this book or Maryann Jordan highly enough.
So many star review it impossible to count them. Absolutely wonderful
Ivy Watkins has finally returned to Baytown where she grew up for a new job. On her way over the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel (CBBT) she encounters a dangerous situation that ends up with her needing rescuing. Little did she know that her rescuer was Andy Bergstom the person who made her school years in Baytown miserable. Why was Ivy the only person that Andy picked on? Yes, she was known as the very smart prepared student in their youth, but she was well like by everyone except Andy. From the moment their eyes meet during her rescue on the CBBT the two are drawn to each other. Andy must prove to Ivy that he is not the same person he was in high school and that he has finally dealt with family issues that made him an angry, irritating high schooler that made Ivy his target. Ivy’s analytical mind can’t let go the little she has learned from Andy and other Virginia Eastern Shore law enforcement officers regarding the spike in drug trafficking in the area. As Andy and Ivy’s relationship blossoms so does Ivy’s involvement in the drug trafficking investigation. Will she once again need a hero? Ivy is a multifaceted woman who draws in the reader and the adult Andy is swoon-worthy. Once again Maryann Jordan takes the reader on the trip to Virginia’s Eastern Shore with her wonderful descriptions of the area. I enjoyed this addition to the Baytown Hero’s series.
This story brought back memories of childhood friends and the angst that we go though during our school years…. These memories and tribulations shape us. It takes growing up and developing into adults to make us realise who we are now may be attributed to our history! I loved how Maryanne explored Andy’s past relationships with his mum and how he took it on board when he realised who ivy was…but he didn’t back away. He worked hard to show himself and ivy whom he really was and let her into his past. Ivy was gorgeous, she was understanding of Andy and accepted his reasoning and supported him to understand himself and to move on with accountability and acceptance! It was nice to see hero show his true vulnerability. Andy may have caused Ivy irritation and angst growing up but she didn’t let it stop her from pursuing an incredible career or forming a relationship with Andy.
Maryann the mystery in this story had me guessing the whole way and it reminded me of a who done it novel… it was brilliantly written!
Secondary characters were so important to this story Andy’s dad neighbour Sally and brother Aaron were such integral parts to this story. Even the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel played an important role and I really enjoyed learning about all’s its history and functions!
Needing a Hero is the fourth book in the Baytown Heroes series by Maryann Jordan. If you're in the mood for a charming blend of small-town romance and suspense, then Baytown Heroes is the binge you’ve been looking for. Set along the beautiful waterways of Virginia’s Eastern Shore, this 12-book series follows the lives of the Virginia Marine Police and the North Heron Sheriff’s Department as they juggle crime-fighting, family, friendship, and love. Each book focuses on a different hero - whether it’s a single dad, a detective, or a long-time friend - finding love under stressful, often life-threatening circumstances. The characters are relatable, their chemistry believable, and despite being “heroes” they’re flawed enough to feel real. From high school crushes rekindled to second-chance romances and unexpected sparks, there’s a story for virtually every kind of (contemporary) romance fan. The series hits that perfect spot between romance and suspense. There are moments of tension and danger that kept me on edge, but they’re balanced with warmth, humor, and small-town charm. Ms. Jordan’s writing is quite engaging, making the books easy to devour. So, if you love swoon-worthy heroes, strong heroines, and a little edge-of-your-seat suspense, then the Baytown Heroes series is a seriously fun ride. Happy Reading…
We all have regrets, and Andy's stem from deep rooted problems left behind inside him after his mother left when he was very young. Seeing anyone with a happy family, especially a loving mother, sent him into a rage of jealousy. And for some reason, most of his ire was focused on Ivy.
Meeting her again as adults, he knows he owes the brave woman a heartfelt apology. He saved her life after she tried to stop someone from making a monumental mistake. It was the bravest thing he'd ever seen. How could he not be equally as brave and give her the truth behind his teenage crap.
Her forgiveness opens a new path for these once bitter enemies. They fall fast and hard and it's a beautiful thing. Her eagerness to let go of the past and his willingness to open up to her lead to a relationship to envy.
Ivy is a strong character with a backbone of steel. She gave as good as she got and that comes out when she needs it the most. When she's kidnapped, she knows she doesn't have much of a chance at escaping, but when opportunity presents itself, she takes it, managing to save herself.
The hero, of course, is still needed to pull her completely to safety, but I love how she doesn't hesitate to act to save herself. Another sweet and spicy love story by Maryann Jordan.
When Ivy returns home to Baytown to take a job as an Engineer on the Chesapeake Bay Bridge, her drive over the bridge takes an unexpected turn and has her reuniting with the boy who tormented her from her high school years. Andy is enthralled by the woman who risked her life to save others and wants to get to know the woman. When he realizes who she is, he’s ashamed and embarrassed as the memories come flooding back during his turbulent teenage years. Hoping she will forgive him, he forges ahead and apologizes, hoping she knows that the boy he was is not the man he is now and is truly regretful for everything he said back then….will she be able to forgive. Sighing and swooning throughout this read as we get to know who the man Andy has become and the reasons behind his turbulent years, and how he finally overcame the hurt and despair that haunted him. Ivy…wow….kind, compassionate, caring, smart and loyal, a woman who knows what she wants and doesn’t hesitate to achieve her goals. These two will also have you sighing and swooning over their romance and holding your breath when danger comes around again with Ivy, once again caught in the middle. *I voluntarily read an advanced copy and expressed my honest opinion*
What can you say MaryAnn has not only brought us an excellent book. But a bit of history and geography of the Eastern Shore of Maryland and Virginia as well as the Chesapeake Bay and the Bay Bridge/Tunnel. Ivy on her way back to Baytown and her new job as an engineer with the CBBT finds a precarious situation taking place and calls it in. Andy is a member of the VMP who arrives with several other units to a harrowing situation taking place on the bridge. We later learn that Ivy and Andy knew each as children but a very different relationship. Home life for both was vastly different and it takes them both awhile to deal with their earlier relationship. However as Andy and Ivy become a couple there is strange activity that brings them both to be in precarious situations. What will be the final outcome who are the bad guys/girls be? Will Andy and Ivy get the lives they both deserve. Even better we again find out what “family” really means. Read this book you will find much joy, love, mystery all the things that MaryAnn’s books great. MaryAnn thank you for a wonderful book. I received an ARC copy of this book for my honest review.
The author takes us back to Baytown with its beautiful waters and a town filled with slightly tarnished heroes with huge hearts. This story belongs to Andy Bergstrom and Ivy Watkins. She was the nerdy, smart kid and he was the boy who tormented her in school. Years later, days after Ivy is back in town, Andy rescues her from the bay after she does an act of heroism. Neither recognizes the other but the attraction is evident. The moment he realizes who she is, he apologizes to her for the teen he was and as she discovers the reasons behind it, her forgiveness humbles him. As they start a relationship, danger surrounds them and once again, Ivy finds herself in a dangerous place. Will he be able to rescue her once again? Aside from the plot, this is a story about forgiveness and starting over. It’s also a reminder that family is not always those by blood or those that leave you behind. Family are those who “stay behind and step up”. Another wonderful addition to the series. I was entrusted a copy of this book. The opinions expressed are solely my own.
Ivy, a systems engineer, came back home to Baytown to work on the Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel. When crossing the bridge she see a young man dangling a child close to the railing of the bridge. Ivy stops, calls 911, and then persuades him to put the child down. In the process he decides to jump into the bay as Ivy tries to stop him. Andy, an officer for the Virginia Marine Police, is in the boat below the bridge after receiving the 911 call Ivy was able to make. Andy sees Ivy fall into the cold water then jumps into the bay to save Ivy. Later he discovers she was the high school girl he tormented and nicknamed Poison Ivy. Ivy was a strong young lady who was forced to deal with Andy's taunts in high school while having a secret crush on him. Years later Andy hopes Ivy will see he has changed and will forgive him. Andy and Ivy must fight for their relationship when Ivy is drawn into the middle of gangs running drugs on the river. Can Andy become her hero again? A very good book that will hold your attention while you try to figure out how the gangs have help with their business.
The Baytown Heroes are fast becoming a favourite series for me and it doesn't hurt that Maryann gives us relatable characters that have flaws like all humans do. In the case of Andy Bergstrom a member of the Virginia Marine Police his flaws all date back to when he was younger after his mother walked out on him and his father and brother he basically flew in a jealous rage at what he perceived as perfect families and is main target was Ivy the daughter of a teacher and a principle that seemed to have everything He made her life hard by tagging her as Poison Ivy a name that stuck. So imagine his surprise when he falls for a brave woman who puts her life in danger to save a child and soon realises that it is Ivy but he is now man enough to apologise for the grief he caused her and soon they are building a relationship but the Bloods are still pushing into the East Shore and soon Ivy is in their crosshairs Is Andy going to lose the woman he loves. You will have to read to see
I received an ARC copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Andy has regrets; and while he may have worked through his mommy issues as an adult, he had plenty of bad behaviors in his youth he wishes he could take back. Especially his tormenting a petite, brainiac classmate he dubbed “Poison Ivy”.
Ivy is back in her hometown. A new job. A new start with a lot of promise and opportunity. She’s excited for the future! Long gone are the days of frustration with the silly boy who seemed on a mission to get under her skin.
One moment of being at the wrong place at the wrong time (or is it really the *right* time?) and Ivy’s sparkling future could be in jeopardy. Andy doesn’t do his job with the VMP to be a hero, but sometimes it’s what’s needed.
How do Andy and Ivy meet again as adults? Can she forgive the man for the boy he was? Can Andy forgive himself?
A sweet and heartwarming addition to the Baytown Heroes.
The last thing Ivy expected to be doing on the bridge over to Baytown was being a heroine. However, it wasn’t in her nature not to stop and help. Thank heaven for the real heroes. Especially the one who pulled her from the water. Andy couldn’t forget the woman he rescued, and just needed to see her again. Never realising he was her high school nemesis. He’s definitely going to eat humble pie. There’s just something about Ivy that makes him think home. Air now cleared these two are happy with their new relationship. Little knowing that Ivy’s new job will get her caught up in an on-going case that just might get her killed.
I love how MJ with this book has given more insight into the one constant from all her Baytown based books, the Chesapeake Bay Bridge and Tunnel. Coming from an area where our rail bridge is a 24, 7, 365 undertaking I really enjoyed getting detail about the upkeep of the CBBT.
I received a review reader’s copy of the book, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
What a great addition to this Baytown Heroes series. Andy is part of the Virginia Marine Police after serving in the service. He is originally from this area and went to school there and has family and friends who love and support him. Ivy is returning to the area after moving away for college and her job as an engineer. Her parents still live here as well. She will be working on the Chesapeake Bay Bridge and tunnel. There is remembered teenage drama that needs to be handled, forgiveness to be determined and twists and turns in this story. There is lots of Baytown Heroes who make appearances as well as their significant others. This book was amazing, realistic and heartfelt. Maryann what a gift you have for telling these stories!! I can’t wait for more! 5+ stars. I received an ARC for an honest review. Maryann Jordan is a one click author for me. I thoroughly enjoy each and every book and they are all spectacular.
School bully, turned hero. Andy and Ivy never had a first chance, so this wasn't about 2nd chances...He was the bully of her childhood, her nemesis, the bane of her existence.... Ivy was the "Brainiac" of school, the girl to copy notes off of to get the good grades, not girlfriend material, let alone friendship. But one can only carry the chip on their shoulders for so long before somebody, a teacher, naval instructor, somebody, will talk some sense into you. When Andy sees Ivy trying to save a baby, on a bridge, putting baby's needs in front of herself, the hero in him wakes up. Even though he didn't know it was the girl he tormented through school he saw something in her that clicked with something deep inside. Once he rescue Ivy, then a few days later, he realized who she was, he almost walked away. Good thing heroes always get the girl! He apologized and went for the gold!
Andy thought it was just a typical work day on the Chesapeake Bay. Then he has rescue a woman from the water and is surprised to learn it is someone he use to know and wasn't so nice to. Ivy can't believe her luck just as she has returned home for work she nearly drowns and is saved by the boy that use to tease her all through high school. It becomes a battle of wills after that. Andy wants to show Ivy that he not the boy that she once know and has matured over the last few years. Ivy wants to thank the person that saved her but isn't willing to give an inch. Over time as the two interact with one another again Ivy realizes that Andy may not be the boy she remembered him as. As the their story goes on you they start to fall for one another making Andy her protector and the only one that maybe able to safe her again. Throughout the story we see characters from past books also play a role in the story and update us on theirs.
Andy and Ivy's story is next up in the Baytown Heroes series. It always feels like going home when I pick up one of Ms. Jordan's stories that take place in Baytown. The book starts out with a water rescue and ends with another water rescue. Ms. Jordan redeems her hero as he wasn't a nice person during his informative years. He knew the loss of a mom and took it out on Ivy who had and still has a wonderful mom.
Ms. Jordan knows how to write about teenage turmoil. My heart when out to a young Andy when all was revealed about the way he grew up. Ms. Jordan evokes those emotions with her stories. Ivy is a very forgiving character and she is able to overcome the past hurt especially when she allows herself to listen to Andy's side of the story. Ms. Jordan has the ability to make me fall in love with her characters while keeping me glued to the story.
I can't wait for more. I hope Andy's brother Aaron gets his own story.
The first page had me hooked. Ivy is on her way back to Baytown when she witnesses the unthinkable. Stopping a man with a baby on the bridge was definitely not on her to do list. Neither was taking a dip in the icy cold waters of the bay. But her calm gentle rescuer seems to be all she can think about. Andy works for the Virginia Marine Police and is drawn to the woman he rescues in the bay. He feels things he’s never felt before. But when he realizes who she is he’s shocked. Ivy is the girl he teased and tormented in high school. Will she give him a chance to prove he’s a real man who knows how to treat the one woman he’s falling for and not the boy she once knew? When trouble comes looking for Ivy can Andy save her a second time? “I voluntarily received this arc book for an honest review”
How does she do it? Maryann Jordan reunites us with old friends in this installment of the Baytown Heroes as we watch new ones fall in love.
Andy has done much growing up since high school and thought he had moved past the betrayal he felt as a child. As a member of the Virginia Marine Police, he has seen a lot, but nothing can compare to the day he sees her on a bridge, trying to save a baby's life. He can't figure out why he is drawn to her but must see her after the rescue.
Ivy is returning to her hometown to start a new job and finds herself in the middle of rescuing a baby and fighting for her life.
In walks the man who saved her, only to find out he's the boy that picked on her in high school.
Can he own up to the past? Can she forgive him? Can they find a future with each other?
Curl up and fall in love!!!! Welcome home to Baytown
I absolutely loved reading this story . I volunteered to read and review an advanced readers copy of Needing A Hero . This story is a sensational suspense romance . Ivy Watkin's is back living in Baytown as systems engineer for Chesapeake Bay Bridge -Tunnel (CBBT) . She never dreamed she would see Andy Bergstrom the guy that tortured her in school or get rescued by him . Andy after leaving the military now works for The Virginia Marine Police . Neither Andy nor Ivy recognize each other at first . Andy feels terrible how he treated Ivy back in their younger years . After explaining his life back then , Ivy decides to give a relationship between them a chance . As the story unfolds it's full of suspense , intrigue . Ivy finds herself in danger and Andy rushes to save her . I highly recommend taking the time to read this outstanding romance .
NEEDING A HERO is the fourth in Maryann Jordan’s Baytown Heroes romantic suspense series. Andy Bergstrom is with the Virginia Marine Police, and Ivy Watkins is recently returned to the area as a newly hired systems engineer for the Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel. When their paths cross, they are both immediately taken with the other, but Andy realizes that Ivy is someone he treated poorly in high school, when he was twisted up by his own challenging circumstances and past.
Maryann Jordan handles Andy and Ivy’s past and reunion compassionately, and it’s a pleasure to see them respond maturely to their current selves and perhaps not so new sparks of attraction. Their relationship is well balanced with helping Ivy get (re)connected to the community and also face the criminal investigation looming around them.
An excellent and exciting read, and a great addition to this solidly written series.
What a wonderful read "Needing a Hero" was! I loved everything about it, especially the exciting, nail-biting opening. Andy and Ivy have a crazy meet that starts after an intense situation on a bridge. I was holding my breathe during the first chapter wondering what was going to happen.
I have really enjoyed reading the Baytown series and learning more about the Virginia Marine Police. We always think of "heroes" as being Police or Military, but the focus on water rescue and issues on the water is making for some great reading. Maryann does a fantastic job of painting a scene where you really feel like you are traveling on the water or over a bridge with these characters. If you like strong characters, great secondary characters, action and adventure, and romance - than Needing a Hero should be your next read! 5 Stars!
Ivy moved back to her hometown and in her parents house on The Eastern Shore and has a degree in system engineering .
Sybil is Ivy’s friend
Andy is with the Virginia Marine Police and a former marine engine mechanic with the Navy. Aaron is Andy’s brother.
Ivy was coming home across the CBBT tunnel, when she saw a man ( with a baby As if he was going to toss it off the bridge). She was trying to talk him out of it and all of a sudden they both went over the bridge, they were rescued by The Virginia Marine Police.
Andy and Ivy reconnected after along time ( since grammar school). Andy has apologized for his behavior.
There are several incidents with smuggling, drugs, arms that Ivy got drawn into unbeknownst to her. Can Andy keep her safe?
This book has suspense, intrigue, wonderful hero and heroine and lots of emotions.
Oh my MaryAnn Jordan has brought us another fantastic read. This one had me hooked from the first page. I think Andy and Ivy are my new favorite couple. After Andy gets over his shock as he realizes Ivy is the girl he wasn't nice to in high school. I love how he doesn't shy away from apologizing for it and showing Ivy he isn't that boy anymore. I also enjoyed how Ivy handled it after getting over her shock of who Andy was.
There path to their HEA doesn't come without the drama and entertainment of the gangs trying to run drugs thru the bay. As the intrigue built you I wasn't able to put this one down. I had to know what was going to happen next. This has to be my favorite of the series which is saying something as I think they all have been incredible!
