Lessons from ConstructorsRobert J. Sternberg Tufts UniversityWhen I was a primary school student in the 1950s, it was clear that there was no controversy about constructivism in my school. In other words, we repeatedly learned from the basics of sermon and explanatory teaching. I can hardly remember a project or discovery learning opportunity. Although John Deweys work has been around for a while, I think the term has never been entered into a vocabulary. I have not been able to learn particularly well through this teaching method, and nowadays I think elementary school is blank, probably because too many years have passed. But all the facts they taught us have vanished like wind in my head. I think I needed more discovery learning!
