This was one of those insta-love books. I say because this went something like this. They bump into each other. He kidnaps her. She gets away. They talk about what was going on, they are on the run. They are hiding, they are having sex. They are trying to take the bracelet off to give it to its proper owner. They are having public sex. Confess love, fight the mercenaries, return the bracelet and lastly have dinner talk about their future and some restaurant oral sex. All in 24 maybe 48?hours. The end.
But with all that it was kinda charming and funny at times.
Retrieving Love is the first in the Urban Seduction series and sets the scene for the magical underworld of Chicago very well.
Amber is a great character, I really liked everything about her, her feisty, sexual, accepting nature was spot on. And when her bike collides with a wizard on a busy intersection on the very first page my imagination was instantly prodded.
Zerachiel, the afore mentioned wizard, oh he is yummy, just what I’d hoped he would be. Tall and handsome, caring and sweet but at the same time deliciously bad in the bedroom, oh and in the restaurant too – note to self, if he ever asks me out to dinner, say yes :-)
References to Gods and Goddesses, Kings and Queens throughout the book added to atmosphere, the magical dialogue and the quest. I also enjoyed the premise that magical powers don’t mix with modern technology and loved the fact cell phones are a massive problem for the wizarding community.
The cuff was a puzzle to me as much as it was to Amber and Ze. I was trying to second guess its meaning and powers from the word go. I didn’t manage to but was very happy with the outcome of this part of the plot.
The story left me with a satisfied glow, it had a great finale, (Clarissa was fab), and I enjoyed the way Ms Lapthorne set out a future path for her hero and heroine.
I love all of Elizabeth Lapthorne's Werewolves series so I picked this one up and I have to say I enjoy it as much as her others. The only thing I didn't like about it, is it's too short! ;-) It's just as Hot and Sexy as her other books with a bit paranormal and a HEA!
Here is a write-up from Amazon:

I got this for free on Kindle. I'd read a previous short by this author and I wasn't crazy about it (Desperate & Dateless) and I wrote on that review that I'd be hesitant to try this author again but since it was free...
When I started reading it was promising and I thought I'd have to eat my words. Ultimately, I will eat half of them.
I liked the premise and the H & h therefore since there are subsequent books with characters introduced in this one and I'm interested enough I will give the next book in the series a try. What I didn't like, the heroine "snickered". I found it really annoying that every time she found something amusing she "snickered".
Like a lot of Paranormals the H & h are thrown together and fall in love in less than 24 hours. I'm willing to suspend belief if the author can sell it but in this case she fell short.
Still, the characters were likeable so I'm going to take a chance. I also obtained another freebie of a different series by this author so hopefully it will work out well.
I really tried to make this story work as I thought the characters Amber and Se had great chemistry...even though it was a bit unrealistic. To go from kidnapping victim to lusting for the person who locked you in the trunk that fast?? All because of a bracelet she was wearing? And it is all somehow tied to the underground magical world of Chicago? I had a very hard time following this story or even trying to figure out who was doing what to whom.
Except for the sex...now THAT was clear throughout. But even they were contributing to the confusion. What brought on the lust? What is the situation? It felt that a sex scene was just thrown in to keep the reader interested as the story became more convoluted. Very disappointed with this book. Usually Ellora's Cave publishes good books....this was an "oops" for them.
Yes, I know that this is erotica, but I'm really sorry that it was erotica! I don't mind the erotic scenes, but since this is a rather short story I felt that there was too many of those scenes and the sotry was like this: you get really interested in what's happening and, BAM, there's an erotic scene! Like it was put there only because this has to be erotica! I would preferred to get more of the story and that the erotic moments to be better introduced into said story. I'm sorry to give only 3 stars, because I liked the heroine, the hero and the story too... I will read the second book in the series, hoping Mishka's story is longer and that the erotic moments are better woven in it!
Highly entertaining. I tend to like insta-attraction stories and there was definite attraction between Ze and Amber. Nice worldbuilding and intriguing set-up for future books (I dare you to read this and think that Mishka and Melia aren't going to end up tangling up the sheets at some point) left me feeling nicely fulfilled. In a literary sense. *thumbs up*
This book was a free Kindle download I picked up 11/14/12 for the Why Buy the Cow? reading challenge.
The book had an interesting premise, but was not developed. Everything happened too quickly in this story. Especially between the two characters. Amber goes from being kidnapped by Zerachiel in the beginning, to instantly falling in love with him in mere hours. I read a lot of paranormal romances and many usually have lust at first sight, but they usually develop the romance. There was no development in this story. It was just too much too quickly.
This Urban Seduction short novel is a thrilling action packed and erotic read. The author has created a fascinating world of magic and captivating characters that draw the reader in and has them wanting more. The concept is certainly intriguing and has lots of possibilities and I was totally enchanted from the beginning and I can’t wait to read the next one.
I think I'm going to like this series! Amber is a bike-carrier who unfortunatily is given a magical cuff to deliver. When retrievee Ze is assigned to retrieve the cuff for the rightful owner, Ambers simple boring life turns into an action movie.Suddenly fireballs are everywhere and Ze is protecting her.
A quick, entertaining read. The one thing that really bothered me was the name Zerachiel. It made my brain trip over it every time I read it, which interrupted the flow of my reading. Just a little thing, but annoying, none the less.
