That's it? No more? Only now that I realize how much I missed Kurapika, he hasn't changed a bit! Although I wasn't satisfied because some characters were completely ignored, I must admit, this was a fabulous start for an extraordinary arc. Well, that is of course, if Togashi gets better and continue this series. All hunter x hunter fans are probably praying for that. I mean hxh can't be forever on hiatus, especially after this volume or rather chapters introduced a great potential... I also need to process everything, so much information! While the chimera ants arc was about Gon and Killua, the Dark Continent's is going to be about Kurapika, Leorio, and the zodiacs. Well, let's face it, what I like the most about Yoshihiro Togashi is that he's realistic. Main characters don't always win, training doesn't mean success, unlike other mangas if someone they love/care about gets hurt they won't miraculously obtain a new power and defeat the threat. It's where mind games, tactics, and strategies are as important as physical strength, if not even more sometimes. That's why I understood what happened with Gon but now, I really hope some miracle would happen and he . Also, Hisoka. Hope he joins them to have fun. You know how he thinks. Please, Togashi get better soon. It's been almost two years. Show them that nothing can surpass hxh and it'll always be the best.

Everyone deserves a ride or die like Leorio in their life.

Since this is the beginning of the arc, there is a lot of explanations and planning which does tend to drag a little. However, I am overall pleased since we get more Kurapika who I have missed so much.

In this volume we get introduced to many new characters who I feel will only play a major role in this arc alone. A little annoyed that Ging and Pariston are continuing on for the time being as they are some of my least favorite characters. Gon with no feeling of aura now is taking some (probably much needed) time off. Killua is no where is sight. It seems like the two main characters are out of the spot light for a moment.

All in all an enjoyable volume as the mission is on and the zodiacs have filled there missing positions.

killua giving kurapika tips on how to handle bisky was hilarious. i also loved to see more of ging. i think he was clever and sly. also a short glimpse of how he fights was so interesting. it was like he can sort of 'copy' an ability of someone who he came close contact with or something. i'd loved to see his true ability

While the plot has finally started to move forward and the set up was interesting, I started to really lose patience with the pacing.

This volume contained too much talking once again. Nevertheless, it was wonderful. I hadn't realised just how much I missed Kurapika until this volume, and I'm glad we got to see lot's of him. Although I miss Gon and Killua (after all, they have always been majorly present in all the past arcs), I'm glad that the other characters are getting their spotlight, in this way we can learn more about the characters and watch them develop more.
I just really hope the hiatus ends soon, because I can't wait to find out what happens next.

I'm jumping into this manga series with Vol 33, but I've watched the anime so I think I'll be good!

I'm really excited for where this arc should take us! I love a good exploring arc, so I'm sure this will be a favorite for me. Lots of new characters here to keep track of! There was a lot of info dumping, but I was ok with that.

I feel more situated as to which characters are with which group, so I'm now ready and excited for the journey to the dark continent to begin!

An Interesting Development to introduce the dark continent saga, Togashi Surely Gives Each Chapter its weight by providing a lot of long dialogue and information about everything we need to know and build for an interesting arc; Hopefully.

Gon's decided to come home for now
Killua decided to protect her brother/sister and starts traveling for awhile.

The world of Hunter x Hunter as we know it change after the revelation of Dark Continent and now the story is setting its next course.

This volume is pack with details and possibly the most multiple reread I ever did on a manga.

Not trying to be a traitor. I love HXH. First read it at age 11, rediscovered as an adult. What I say, I say out of a desire for improvement in this manga.
This arc sucks. It's so boring that the war arc of Naruto held my interest longer & that's saying something. I know this is par for the course for Togashi's writing style. He spends a lot of time and energy building things up so that the payoff can blow you away. But I'm so. tired. after the Chimera ant arc and that dry ass chairman election arc (which was entertaining and hinted at a lot of emotional moments, but was undermined by how much filler talk there is. i read like half the pages in that arc, and I still understood everything.), that all I want is a fun adventure a la Yorknew City. The text-to-illustration ratio has gotten so poor over the years (including the parts where Togashi wasn't able to submit more than sketches in the Chimera Ant Arc), and there are whole pages of solid text. This isn't a novel. It's a comic. I know his health has been suffering & impeded his work for something like ten years, but I'd rather wait a few years more for well-illustrated content than this. Lately, I skip every page that doesn't have a main character in it, and I barely need any context from the pages and pages of dialogue to understand what's going on.
Togashi's detailed worldbuilding was charming, helpful, & enchanting when the series was young and developing its identity, but at this point he needs to pivot off worldbuilding and lean into the strength of his characters. I like that Gon & Killua aren't the center of the universe. It's a great subversion of the shounen genre. But there has to be SOMEONE I care about. I like Cheadle well enough, and Ging and Pariston are interesting to read about, but the characters I REALLY want to hear from about are the main four plus a few stragglers that came along the way (the Zoldyk family, the butlers, Morel, Knuckle, to an extent the Spiders). & in this arc, Leorio and Kurapika only show up after chapters and chapters of meetings & straight dialogue from the Zodiacs (whom I'm simply not invested in enough to listen to them talk). As many complaints as I had about Killua overthinking during the Chimera Ant Arc, this is like 20 Killuas all overthinking OUT LOUD. Where is that dumbass Yorknew energy...that was spicy....
I love the Chimera Ant Arc despite its downright awful pacing, but I'm not ready for another one. I don't want to sit through it. Patience is a virtue, but so is brevity. Togashi is the Victor Hugo of manga in terms of sheer long-winded-ness.
I'm still going to hold on because the best moments of HxH far outshine the worst, but it's pretty damn frustrating.

this volume was just a headache fr. this is basically the preparation in order to go to the new world. soooo many characters were introduced in such a short amount of time and that’s what threw me off. i’m upset that we didn’t get to see what the new hunter exam consisted of. we have the zodiacs whom we barely know, we have beyond’s team whom we don’t know at all, we have princes and their mothers who we don’t know at all, and this was just a choice to include in one volume. love that kurapika is back, but literally no gon and killua like let’s get back to the original plot of the story. at least the art wasn’t scribbles this time around no offense

This was one of the mangas which I liked reading at night before sleep. Not so anymore. It is getting too heavy, especially this vol, and all that text in a page is frustrating.

The reason I loved hxh in my childhood (I started off with the '99 anime, >>>> '11 one) is the child-like charm, and wit; the villains eccentric yet realistic, and the dynamics certainly enjoyable. Without gon and killua this gets boring. There's not much motivation now to read. That said I'm not abandoning this manga. For another time

I'm starting the manga here after watching the anime and I loved this volume so much!

I LOVED all the political intrigue and scheming. And the concept of the dark continent is so interesting. After how devastating chimera ant arc was, it's so insane to me that the very next arc would be like 'hey have a look at all these things even more dangerous than chimera ants!' it really shows just how much more dangerous and larger scale the dark continent is.

I do miss Gon and Killua but I love that we got to see Leorio and the return of Kurapika... I missed him a lot. I'm really excited for the direction this arc is going in, it seems exactly like the sort of thing I love!!!

10.3吋的螢幕真是理想的看漫畫尺寸,
以前就覺得有些漫畫用一般紙本漫畫的尺寸來看很浪費,
尤其是海賊王、獵人...等一些畫面很滿、細節很多的漫畫。

So this is mostly set-up for two upcoming major plots; the exploration of the "Dark Continent", and the succession trials for a new king of Kakin. But there's also the beginning to a rather intriguing side-plot... Kurapika potentially being able to retrieve more of his family's eyes, and trying to manipulate the situation for the best chance at that.

I'm pretty interested in this Dark Continent to be honest, as apparently the "known world" is a fraction so small that it's basically just a portion inside a lake of the Dark Continent? What is going on there, and what exactly is so dangerous about the Dark Continent that travel has been forbidden there for ~200 years? o.O

Chapter notes below for reference:

Contrary to some of the other reviews, I actually enjoyed that this volume is text-heavy.

This is what sets 'Hunter x Hunter' apart from other manga or anime. Yoshihiro Togashi takes his time to build intricate story arcs and deeply develop his characters, whether through dense dialogue, detailed thoughts, or expansive world-building. These elements set the stage for jaw-dropping payoffs. I completely understand why some might find it slow or overwhelming, but I’d choose careful world-building and a satisfying payoff over flashy fight scenes with mediocre outcomes any day.

This volume is essentially an arc introduction, so the information dump was expected. It’s fascinating and opens up many possibilities, especially for characters like Kurapika, Leorio, and Ging (who I’m particularly excited to see more of, given that his abilities remain a mystery).

The one downside that took away a star for me was the introduction of new characters. There’s a lot of them in this volume, and I feel a better narrative approach could have been used. Spreading out the character introductions or balancing the info dumps with more breathing room would have made the pacing feel less condensed.

Still, the positives far outweigh the negatives, and I’m excited to keep going with this manga.

عودة لهنتر وقراءة ثانية ♥️

I'm seriously in love with Togashi's work!

Reading the Manga without watching it as an anime is a whole different experience. Togashi has started a new arc and added many characters, it gets a bit complicated, yet enjoyable.

If you are a fan, this Volume is A MUST READ!

Ok there are sooo many moving parts here. Also coming from CSM and Dorohedoro I'm used to relatively short volumes so I was not expecting just how much they pack into this volume and how long it was. I love when we get into the geopolitical stuff in HxH but in the first 1/4th I was a bit lost just with all the allegiances and factions being explained. HOWEVER once I started to get a handle on that aspect and once everything came together this was BRILLIANT. This volume has like Game of Thrones level political intrigue and its sooo fun keeping track of the schemes and allegiances. I'm actually rly liking Kurapika in this one and its nice to have some of our favorite characters like Bisky and Melody return. In the second half especially this was the perfect set up volume. Now that I know where the cards lie (on the surface atleast) I'm so excited for the succession stuff. The relationships and family politics of the royal family are so interesting to me and I love that Kurapika got assigned to protect the lil baby (i was so worried about her when she was first introduced). Anyway I can't wait for this arc to actually get underway!

With the start of the dark continent arc, so many new characters with new abilities and plotlines were introduced, it had my head spinning. It took more than a few pages to wrap my head around what was going on with it being so politics-heavy.

Despite my confusion I really enjoyed it. It was great to see Kurapika again after him being absent from the story for so long. He's such a compelling character and I'm glad he'll be in the forefront this time.

I was a little less happy to see more Ging (I'm a known Ging hater) but I understand his necessity at this stage.

I'm actually really into this new plot with all the princes. I'm excited to see what happens once the voyage is underway.

Dark Continent Expedition arc
This "arc" is basically a set-up for a whole new plot. The story continues with The Zodiacs, joined by Leorio and Kurapika as well as a good number of new characters. Gon and Killua are completely left out of the picture.
Following the preparations for the expedition, we are introduced to the risks and stakes of the task. All building up to the next arc The Succession Contest. The 14 princes of the Kakin Empire will be on board and whoever survives the expedition is going to be the next King.

With all the new faces, I'm really glad Kurapika is back. He's a strong favorite. Otherwise, I wouldn't stand having to follow Ging and Pariston the whole time. Those two are such a headache.
Overall, I have some hope for this new plot being a bit more mature and less of the typical traditional Shonen.
