When Sirena Barrington first set eyes on the brawny bare back of Noah Samson, it was lust at first sight. Throwing caution and years of good breeding to the wind, she leaped into a marriage that lasted all of three tumultuous weeks. It ended in Mexico with a quickie divorce. — Or so she thought. Now, two years later, she discovered that the bonds of matrimony were as strong as ever. And that Noah was about to become a bigamist! Sirena managed to intercede at the alter, offering Noah his freedom on the spot. But he declined, determined to prove that love-and lust-could be better the second time around.
A second-chance-at-love story which I thought I might not enjoy coz you know the whole hero is about to get married when heroine barges in but surprisingly I did. These two were married for a hot minute two years ago when the hero and heroine went to bed (h was a virgin), but they didn’t know each other at all, and came from different backgrounds, heroine was born wealthy, hero was just starting his business and wouldn’t take her money, he was also raised in traditional gender roles. They spent all their time in bed or fighting so the heroine walked away after a fight, telling the hero she was gonna get a quickie divorce. Two years later heroine is not the shallow rich girl the hero accused her of and instead runs a foundation that helps the needy and during some paper-work finds out that the divorce was a fake. She crashes his wedding with a woman hero thought would be perfect she would be obedient, make no demands on him — you get the drift but seeing the heroine ignites his blood and his fiancee’s reaction to postponing the wedding makes him question this marriage and whether he is making a big mistake. He tries to take the heroine away so that they can close their unfinished chapter but she is not having it and walks away. But the hero can’t forget her and figures out that she prevented him from making the biggest mistake ever - marrying his fiancee and they mutually break it off.
He shows up to the heroine’s place telling her family they are making an attempt at reconciliation and at first the heroine is resistant but the hero tells her he will give her and uncontested divorce if she gives him a month for them to see if they can work through their issues. I liked how the heroine didn’t easily capitulate to his demands, she had changed in their two years apart. They get to know each other and the hero sees how hurtful and cruel he was to call her shallow to hide his insecurities. He sees the great work she does and they open up to each other. He comes to see that he wants to be with her forever and the heroine gradually comes to this realisation as well. My issue in the book was when the hero realises that the heroine helped his business he is unnecessarily cruel to her and comes back with apologies with the heroine too easily accepts. I wish she had made him sweat. All in all a nice read. And for those who care- h was celibate and not sure about the H - but he and his fiancee hadn’t done it.
