About the author

Georges Schehadé (1905-1989) poet, dramatist and dedicated Lebanese mandarin was born in Alexandria. The family returned to Beirut where Schéhadé was to complete his studies. Most of his adult life was lived either in Paris or Lebanon and, in 1986, in recognition of his literary achievements, he was awarded the first Grand Prix de la Francophonie by the Académie Française.
