About the author

Louise Cooper was born in Hertfordshire in 1952. She began writing stories when she was at school to entertain her friends. She hated school so much, in fact—spending most lessons clandestinely writing stories—that she persuaded her parents to let her abandon her education at the age of fifteen and has never regretted it.

She continued to write and her first full-length novel was published when she was only twenty years old. She moved to London in 1975 and worked in publishing before becoming a full-time writer in 1977. Since then she has become a prolific writer of fantasy, renowned for her bestselling Time Master trilogy. She has published more than eighty fantasy and supernatural novels, both for adults and children. She also wrote occasional short stories for anthologies, and has co-written a comedy play that was produced for her local school.

Louise Cooper lived in Cornwall with her husband, Cas Sandall, and their black cat, Simba. She gained a great deal of writing inspiration from the coast and scenery, and her other interests included music, folklore, cooking, gardening and "messing about on the beach." Just to make sure she keeps busy, she was also treasurer of her local Lifeboat station.

Louise passed away suddenly from a brain aneurysm on Tuesday, October 20, 2009. She was a wonderful and talented lady and will be greatly missed.

Una historia de fantasía que empieza con dos muertes y un nacimiento ya establece una narrativa premonitoria que sirve de encuadre perfecto para desarrollar la trama. "La puerta del caos" es la secuela de la famosa trilogía "El señor del tiempo" y para mí, por muy opinión impopular que sea, está por encima de ésta. Se nota que "El señor del tiempo" eran las primeras novelas de Louise Cooper porque en la presente trilogía hay un salto de calidad y me ha parecido una historia más madura y mucho mejor trenzada que la primera (que ya me había gustado mucho).

Karuth me ha encantado y la dualidad que establece Cooper con su hermano Tirand, con sus lealtades divididas hacia el Caos y el Orden respectivamente, se convierte en una dinámica super interesante. Además, los gatos como seres telepáticos más cercanos al Caos (que en "El señor del tiempo" son nada más que un detalle que se menciona) aquí al menos tienen un valor dentro de la historia y sirven de algo. El final muy redondo y de nuevo destacar a los personajes. Siento que Karuth es una de las mejores protagonistas que recuerdo para un libro de estas características.

En el género de la épica fantástica pocas escritoras y escritores hay al nivel de Louise Cooper. Ella sabe manejar sus tropos, sus hilos, sus elementos centrales, y crear una atmósfera profunda y mística con su mezcla de tinieblas y oscuridad, pero también luz y esperanza. Una trilogía recopilada en un solo volumen de 900 páginas, que da para leer mucho pero que nunca aburre.

No tiene tanta fuerza ni impacto como la trilogía precedente, pero Cooper sabe cómo aprovechar los personajes que diseñó. Su gran fallo es la predictibilidad de los acontecimientos...

Franchement c'était super au début mais il y eu un long, très long, passage à vide au milieu qui m'a beaucoup refroidie!
La fin, très classique dans le genre, ne rattrape malheureusement pas tout; j'avoue que je suis un peu déçue car j'avais vraiment été emballée pour ce livre.
A côté de çà il y a vraiment dès côté positifs non négligeables: l'univers est très bien mis en place dès le début et les personnages sont attachants. Mais çà manque d'action. J'aurais bien aimé vivre la scène où Ygorla conquérit l'île d'Eté (çà manque beaucoup je trouve) parce qu'avec elle on fait un bon dans le temps et du coup on passe sur des événements importants comme la mort du Haut Magrave.
Bref je suis pas convaincue.
