Even though this edition was published exactly 50 years ago, I bought it (used) for its stunning photos. Turns out, the text portrait of 1960 Nepal as essentially feudal, before it was opened to tourists in the late 1970s, was fascinating. I read it in preparation for trekking the Annapurna Circuit this fall.
Its strange that a foreigner describes about Nepal and Nepalese people often copies it to make to their report.
Hagen was called in Nepal for geological survey but this book made me think if he only was interested in the Geology of Nepal. It appears he is more interested in politics, history etc more than the geology, but anyway this is the title of the book so its appropriate.
If you want to know about Nepal then this book can be good source of information. However, it has a lot of controversial information. Please, read the book but don't believe it properly.
