This was not my favorite Dalton book, it was too rushed, and too short for my taste. However, I LOVED the attention to submissive men and straight men who enjoy being pegged. Mrs. Dalton has serious ovarian fortitude to tackle this subject matter. Submissive men are often neglected in heterosexual BDSM erotica. That being said I am personally disgusted by other readers' intolerant reviews and characterizations of submissive men as "pussies." Silence is collusion. To those readers I say, you've ostensibly missed entire point of Tymber's short story-- the diversity of BDSM relationships & the power of love. It takes incredible strength to ask for what your heart might yearn but what society say is unacceptable and gender inappropriate. It takes amazing strength to be submissive; to give one's body, safety, and sometimes soul to another. As a switch I also know that holding the reins of that power is intoxicating and frightening. If you don't understand ask! Your intolerance is inexcusable.

Hmmm..

So the first time I read a D/s book, it was a guy Dom and a girl sub.. And it left me with a bad taste.. Every time he bound her I was growling and every time he told her to call him Sir I was more than ready to shout: STFU and was almost hoping the girl wouldn't do it.. Well, I'm not gonna lie, I was hoping the girl wouldn’t do it.. I just didn’t like it. But at the time, I thought.. Hmm.. So this is the life of D/s's huh? Don’t like it!

Then I got into m/m books, and have read a million m/m D/s books.. And I never had such a reaction to those for some reason. I didn’t get the Sub POV though. And it irritated me. I couldn’t understand why the sub wanted to be a sub, I guess.. Always about the sub in these books. So that’s what I focused on, and I still didn’t get it. But I didn’t hate the m/m books.. it was two guys after all, couldn’t really relate to it..

It never even occurred to me, that there were female Doms out there.. Or Domme's. Fem-doms.. I mean.. Seriously.. How could I not have figured that out before?

So yeah.. Smack me and call me surprised! (Don’t smack me though! ;)

This book is about a guy wanting to be his wife's sub. He wants to call her Mistress and please her and do things for her.. Well.. But isn’t that just what a good husband wants? Ok, maybe not the Mistress thing, but still..

I think this book gave a good insight into female Domme's for a person like me, who hadn’t even given it a thought. I didn’t know I had wanted to read a book like this. It’s a short read, you get POV's from the guy and woman, and it’s an OK read.. Very soft-core and a quick study into what could happen when a subject such as D/s gets talked about and tried out in a marriage, I guess.. (Wouldn’t really know though.. lol)

There were some things I didn’t like. More than once, the author made it sound like that men, who weren’t subs were the ones cheating on their wives, which is just silly. But I did like it, and I'm sooo relieved that a book with a D/s theme didn’t leave me growling and grinding my teeth..

After this book I've found out that I like Domme's with a guy sub more than Dom's with a girl sub.. Don’t know if I'm ready to figure out what that really means though.. o_O

Well crap. I read this short story and thought, oh dear lord, please tell me I'm not a domme. Then I remembered, I'm a switch so I kind of am a domme. Fortunately, my husband is NOT like the husband in this story. For that, I can't even begin to express my relief.

This is not a happy story. Yes, there is a happily ever after, but it's an emotional and mental struggle for the woman's self realization. Her desires and belief of what should be contradict in a way that gives her a melt down. Her struggle to make her husband happy was killing her little by little. I honestly didn't see a happy resolution. I'm glad Ms. Dalton was able to turn it around and show me another softer side of BDSM which I was unaware of, until now.

This story is for alpha women who want to be taken care of, but have a submissive husband. As Tony says, “you can have your cake and beat it too”.

5 Domme by Default Stars

I wasn't sure I was going to like the Female being the Dom, but I loved it. I think Tilly Cardinal from Cardinal's Rule broke me in first… I read it like so long ago now, and love it. But she always stuck with me.

So with this book I was prepared for something.. I just didn't know what. And wow so loved it. I know some think a Female Dom who has a male slave or sub they see the male as weak but I don’t, I never have actually I see them as strong and able to see something in themselves they had the courage to ask for. It can’t be easy to always feel like you have to be in charge because of your gender.

I really like that we have, a him, and her, we don’t get names but Tony from The Reluctant Dom... I hope he gets his own book I haven’t checked haha I will. Lmao ok his book is next… I need to check these things before I type…

Anyways a great story of learning what your partner needs but also what you need. I love the connection and love these two had for each other. Their willingness to try and trust in each other. Also for her to reach out and ask for help when she needed it was pretty great too.

Also this was a first for this narrator for me but I really enjoyed her. I hope she does more of these books.

I can honestly say I wasn't sure I'd like this book and I was pleasantly surprised. I typically like my BDSM books to have a male Dom. What can I say, I like my Alpha male heroes. Normally I'd stay away from any book with a female Domme, but I loved Reluctant Dom (one of my favorites) and I decided to give this book a shot. At first, I hated it. It's just a personal preference but I couldn't handle the male sub. But the more I read the more I liked it, and the reason is because of the relationship. The hero/heroine had a strong love for each other and that shone through in the book. The other thing I love about this is the fact that we have a normal "vanilla" couple who end up dabbling and discovering what works for them. Often, we read about characters who have always had dominant or submissive feelings and traits, but in this book they did not. The heroine only gets into it because it's what her husband wants and she wants to make him happy. It was interesting watching them work out the dynamics of their new kinky lifestyle.

Domme by Default is the first novel by Tymber Dalton I've read and I enjoyed it for several reasons:

One: It doesn't take place in some swanky, overpriced BDSM club filled with impossibly rich and beautiful people. I am seriously over those (The Deviations series notwithstanding);

Two: The heroine and the hero are regular people, and the story is told from their different points of view. Dalton was really able to get inside of their heads and make me feel the ambivalence and well as the love between the two characters. These two people are in their forties and on their second marriage. They don't have uber-perfect bodies and they're not running around in PVC and leather. Neither are they emotionally or physically damaged. They're just kinky, LOL.

Three: The heroine has no idea just what being a Domme to her sub husband really means. She's a modern woman who writes erotic fiction while able to wire a ceiling fan and replace pipes in her kitchen. But she's also somewhat of a traditionalist in that she wants her hubby to be the dominant one in the bedroom.

Four: The hero is secure in what he wants, but completely unsure of how to ask for it without hurting his wife's feelings. He's comfortable being a computer nerd, not a handyman.

It was only seventy pages, but I really wanted it to be longer. I really came to care about this couple and wanted them to be happy. I enjoyed their journey into the gentler side of D/s, with all its attendant bumps and bruises and comedy of errors. And let's face it, I'm a fem-dom fan who loves reading about women wielding strap-ons (yay).

Read this a long time ago (sort of). It was different in that it wasn't all just whips and chains.

It involved a woman whose husband was submissive but she wasn't inclined to be the Domme. Here she was wanting a big strong alpha to come bang her brains out and take care of her, but instead she was left struggling with her resentment towards this man she loved and with the consequences of the situation.

Even though it definitely involves the BDSM lifestyle, it's more love story than pure erotica. Keep in mind I'm writing this review years after reading the story. If you like BDSM but also angsty romances, then you'll probably like this one.

All in all this book did not have a point.
It was not an erotica. The most 'erotic' thing was a few 'Oh I am hard' and a 'He could finish just by a but plug and some slapping'.
Well wooopie for them.
They were old. I mean they have 20+ kids. why would you want a 55+ man to 'wiggle his as in the air'. Ew! Knock it off! Major turn off.
An he was really a pussy. Not in a cool sub way like inTaking Care of Business. He was just a man who wanted his wife to work and you know,liked collars.

So,what ever. Not a good read. Did not care for the couple and mostly hated them.

OMG! SO I thought that I loved Reluctant Dom and cried at the end. Never saw that coming BTW. Then I read this novella about 70 pages and oh man it was awesome! I understand what that woman feels like sometimes you just want a man to step up and do something. I loved how she was willing to do things for her husband. I love my hubby so I know that I would do anything for him too. I also loved how Tony was in it for a little bit. :-)

I really liked this one. Wife wants him to be more dominate, husband wants her to be dominant, finally they find a mix that works well for them both. It was them learning there way through it and such I thought it was really good to see the beginning instead of just starting out that they had been doing it for years. It was new, it was exciting and it was hot.

Note: I never give short stories/novellas a 5 star rating. I just can't believe that in less than 150 pages you can create well rounded, multidimensional characters, a fully detailed plot line and create a world for them to reside without cutting corners.

My Thoughts:

I have to say, I don't really read Domme/sub novels as I'm partial to alpha male men. However, I saw on Tymber's site that this book was loosely related to Reluctant Dom and that Tony has a "guest" appearance and as RD is one of my favorite books in the whole world I allowed myself to be teased out of my comfort zone and give it a shot. I am so glad I am not closed to new experiences, I absolutely adored this story. It was hard to read in some places since I seemed to really connect with our heroine and to me she was a heroine. The story for me was more of a coming of age of a relationship, of finding what you would do for love, of opening yourself up to possibilities and of reaching out when you need help and asking. I didn't connect with our sub quite as much I would normally but that is ok, he was sweet and also coming of age in his sexuality. Thanks so much Tymber for sharing such a sweet but at times hard to read story of love, trust and growth.

4.5 Stars out of 5...yes I broke my own rule. Great read and highly recommend it.

This was so not what I expected. While I really enjoy BDSM themes, the concept of a female dominant (Domme) had never tripped my trigger before. But – this is a Tymber Dalton book after all, and she rarely steers me wrong so I took a chance and I LOVED IT!! It is so different from the norm. Written in first person with chapters alternating between ‘Her’ and ‘Him’, it explores the development of a husband who wants to submit to his wife and her struggle to accept that role in their relationship. What she really wants is to let go of control and be cared for herself. The psychological journey described is one of the best I have read into the mindset of a dominant. She wants to give him what he wants because it makes him happy but she is tired of keeping it together and being the ‘good girl’ that everyone relies on. After much angst, they find a way to make it work for them with some surprising and unexpected results! The character development was such that I was cheering for them before they figured things out for themselves. You want them to find a path that works for them because you can see they love each other in an achingly sweet way. There is very little description of physical BDSM play, the sex is steamy but restrained. It is a psychological book more than a graphic erotic romance. This book is a love story detailing the depth of sentiment and what one couple is willing to do to ensure that the needs of their mate are satisfied. Well worth a read to ask yourself – what would you do for the man you love?

I loved this book. I generally prefer the male to female D/s stories. However, I've read and loved previous books by Tymber Dalton so I decided to give this one a chance. I am SO glad I did. It is great to see it from the other side of the bed. I really felt the emotions that the wife goes through in dealing with this change of expectations. It took a mindset adjustment when I first started reading it but that actually helped me with her adjustment also. It was almost like we progressed through it together. I will read this story again.

It was great seeing Tony, who also appeared in The Reluctant Dom, in this story. He was a great balancing force for the overwhelming changes that the characters had to experience.


As a side note, if you haven't read Tymber's The Reluctant Dom, go, now, get it, read it. It is awesome also. Of course, I have yet to read one of her stories that isn't awesome.

I've always been a bit put off by fem-dom books (Joey Hill notwithstanding). But I liked this one. I liked how it was set up - we got to know the characters pretty well even if we never get a description of how old they are (something vague about both being in their 40s w/grown children - which I usually hate - more and more often, in my world anyway, couples marry in their mid-late 20s and have kids in their 30s - but here, once again, are two people who obviously were parents by the time they were 20 or so - but I digress...) - it was interesting to see how after 10 years of marriage "He" was still unable to expose his inner most secrets to his wife. I really don't think she is a true domme - she is doing this to please her husband whom she loves and he is loving life -but if anything, she would like to be on the receiving end of the collar and the cuffs. But, the story is short, somewhat compelling, and I reread it every so often, just because.

There really is no guide book for what can happen in a marriage relationship and this author has had the intestinal fortitude to take on the matter of what happens when a wife discovers that the seemingly strong and adept man she has married really wants to be dominated in the bedroom and in other aspects of his life. It is a wonderful look as such a marriage and at a wife who is willing to do whatever it takes to nurture the loving relationship she shares with her husband. It is also unusual in that submissive men are not often given due respect in the hetero world, and I appreciated the respectful but honest way this story played out. Too short, but I will always hope that the books by my favorite authors go on and on. Just a really terrific piece of writing and a joy for romance fans.

Something unusual happened to a wife: her husband confessed to her that he wanted to be her slave and do whatever she ordered him to do, that he wanted her to be his Mistress.

The book tells the story of their struggle to fit into this new lifestyle they've chosen, the husband's fear to admit his desires and fear of her leaving him or refusing to be his Mistress; the wife's fight to become the Domme her husband wants and needs, to fulfill his desires even though they make her feel uncomfortable and inadequate to do it. She wanted to give up control sometimes and have her husband be in charge of everything, but that seemed to be impossible. When she finally broke down she went to Tony. Tony seemed to be the local BDSM counselor. He talked sense into both her and her husband. After that they were much better and happier.

All in all, a short but a very good story.

A sweet and unforgettable quickie is how I would describe this book. I wish Dalton made it longer because I grew to love the characters and wanted to stay with them longer and get excited by their erotic exploits, which were made even more scorching by the fact that I got to experience how it was for the female to learn the ropes of being a Domme. Because of this story, despite the fact that it was over too soon, I've decided that I like my D/s stories with the females as the dominant and the males as the submissive, I find it hotter when it's the woman who holds complete control over a man, especially when the man is the typical strong and sexy leading man with savage sexual cravings. Makes me want to give the lifestyle a try!

This is my first book by Tymber Dalton and all I can say is Wow. I was blown away at the emotionally driven issues our heroine was facing with. I could not imagine what I would do if I were in her shoes. Her love your her husband transcends and is unconditional. Tymber had me in tears with the struggles of the heroine. Once she was able to communicate to her husband what she was missing and needed from him, everything started to click. This was a real look at what makes a relationship like this work. I have heard it over and over again = communication is key. Well done Tymber and I look forward to reading more of your work.

This was the first book that I've read, where there is a dominant woman. I've found it very interesting and I actually learned a lot of things that I didn't knew about BDSM.

The story is about a couple that love eachother very much, but the husband want to be the wife's slave, something that had never crossed her mind. She has to learn how to be a dominant so she can make her husband happy.

While she learned, I've learned as well.

What I especially enjoyed about this book was that it was about an older couple who, although it scares the pants off them both, have enough trust and love for each other to express their desires, fears and ultimately come to a place where they get to have their cake and eat it:)

I guess I should start by saying I am a huge fan of Tymber Dalton’s work, Domme by Default is a perfect example why.

Domme by Default has just jumped to the top of my re-read list!! When I tell you this is an amazing book that is a bit of an understatement. Yet again Tymber has managed to write a book that grabs you by the heart from line one. According to the Author’s note this one is more than a little autobiographical, and that makes it all that much better! This one is a little different, because you never learn the names of the main characters. It is told in the first person, but slips back and fourth beautifully between Him and Her.

This wife finds herself in a situation with her husband that she never saw coming. To say she has a wonderful loving husband is an understatement. Both of them are in their second marriage, and have found a love they didn’t expect to find. Her husband has just told her he needs something from her and she will have to dig deep down to provide it for him. She has been hinting to him that she wants him to be a little more dominate with her, but he reveals to her that he wants her to be his Mistress. This kinda throws her for a major loop, but she is willing to try because she loves him more than anything in this world besides her child. That roll of Mistress is not an easy one for her to fill and she has to rely on a friend of hers to help her through.

Their journey in discovering their way through their new lifestyle is so touching because you can see the love they each have for the other. My heart broke with her when she made her first solo trip to the “toy store”. Lawd are these two smoking hot together, and when the submission is added in it makes it all that much hotter. This is one of those books that will stay with me for a while. Tymber writes couples that are so real that you finish the book feeling like you have just left a visit with a good friend. I have to say I identified with the husband in this one so much. I love books like this that get you to reflecting on yourself. I can’t recommend this one enough. I hope y’all enjoy it as much as I have!!
