If you loved RAELIKSEN, you must read this for the rest of the story!

At the end of RAELIKSEN, Mara (the Connacht princess and wife of the Northman, Raeliksen), was left a pregnant widow. Not exactly the happy ending you might have been seeking, I know. Now, seven years later, Mara is raising Daegan's son alone, and the man she thinks is her father, the king, is dying. Breandan Mac Liam, the Irish hunter who loved her in book one, is sent by the dying king to retrieve his daughter. For seven long years, Breandan has loved Mara, dreaming of her every night and unable to love any other woman. Now he will be with her once again.

I loved Breandan...he was consistently honorable, strong, wise and unafraid of the obstacles to his loving Mara. But what happened to Mara in this sequel? She seemed weaker and more tossed about by events than in the first one where I thought she was a bit stronger. I thought her continued vow of love for her dead husband, Daegan, somewhat distracted from the main love story. And it just brought back the pain of the first book's ending. I imagine the author wants to show you can love two people at the same time (one dead) but it came across a bit disappointing to me. And Breandan's being ok with her loving Daegan was a bit too understanding. After all, it had been 7 years. I liked the side story of Gustaf and AEsa, and their story is coming up in 2012!

Some places the story lagged to my mind, though the battle toward the end was quite good. The aftermath was a bit bizarre. Mara, though an Irish princess, was treated like just another person for the whole story, except at the end when the people were suddenly bowing down to her, even Breandan. That was kind of strange.

For those of you, like me, who were left hanging at the end of RAELIKSEN, and want the rest of the story, this is a must read.

Great ending of the second book. The hero, who we met in the first, is great and the heroine has grown too.
I must say that I still don't understand what's so great about her, but the book is really very well written that it aboundantly compensates for that.
I'm curious to find out what shall happen in the third book, since it seems to me the story has ended with this book...

“Love is not a choice,… ‘Tis what happens.”

Breandan Mac Liam loves Mara, a princess. Since she was a child invading his hunting ground, her natural beauty, grace, free-spirit, kindness, and joy for life has thrilled him. Mara fills his heart, leaving no room for another. In tenth century Ireland, a commoner, even a prosperous one, was not considered good enough to wed one of royal birth.

Mara married Draegan Raeliksins, who died leaving Mara and her six-year-old son Lochlann to the loving care of his family and followers that live in peace with the Irish King Nevan on Inis Mor off the coast of Ireland. She still morns her husband and refuses to marry the man that Tait, her husband’s most trusted friend picks out for her to marry.

Even though Breandan has not seen Mara in seven years, he dreams of her and in the dream, she says, “I belong with you”. Thus begins an absorbing love story that sparkles with a purity engendered by selfless love—a love that wants the loved one’s happiness above all else.

Gustaf, son of Raellif and brother to Draegan, has not known true love, but he knows HONOR and had spent all his adult life chasing down his father’s killers. He is weary, but one last man must be killed before he can move on with his life. How his hunt mingles with Mara and Breandan’s lives creates intriguing, adrenaline-pumping action. The foreshadowing of love in his future leaves the reader hoping that in book three he finds his special love—if Aesa has anything thing to do with it, she will take this weary warrior to that safe haven found when one loves and is loved.

Many of the secondary characters have strong personalities. They wield lots of power and hide secrets. King Nevan and Tait, Draegan’s blood brother, have a unique relationship that has a tremendous influence on Mara’s life. They guard her well-being especially after her father Callan Mac Choncubhair refused to see her and her son after Draegan’s death.

Three of the most delightful characters are Lochlann, Mara’s son, and his two friends Brondolf, who does not speak, and Alfarinn, Tait’s son who can beat Lochlann at swords.

Havelock is a fearless, stalwart warrior who fought at Gustaf’s side at one time. He has a stake in the last man Gustaf seeks. He and his five hundred mercenaries go with Gustaf to Inis Mor. His unshakeable sense of honor demands that he help right a grievous wrong. He is instrumental in putting paid to the devious treachery of the despicable antagonist.

Renee Vincent weaves another beautiful, intriguing, and mesmerizing tapestry of a tale. The wonderful metaphors, humor, undercurrents, personal agendas, fighting, and irrepressible love blend to pull the reader into this tenth century slice of life, captivating with well-developed characters, incredible descriptions, fast action, sub plots that enhance the main plot. The steadfast, true love Ms. Vincent creates in mac Liam takes one’s breath away.

A memorable, satisfying story!

STORY-LINE EMERALD GLORY BY RENEE VINCENT:

Emerald Glory, the story of Breandán Mac Liam and Mara, daugther of Callan, the King of Connacht, follows these two thru war-torn land towards love. The reader will remember Mara and Breandán from Sunset Fire by Vincent. Book 2 finds a widowed Mara seven years later raising a son. Mara's raising her son alone, and watched over by Tait her deceased husbands best friend. Breandán's given the task of returning Mara to the King.

Breandán loved Mara from the first time he saw her. Knowing he's beneath her social class, he loves her from afar. Married to a Northman (Viking) and widowed, Mara's summoned home to her dying king and father. Breandán jumps at the chance to bring Mara home. Come follow with Breandán and Mara in this wonderful love story. My reviews for romance novel, Emerald Glory, follows.

CHARACTERS, PLOTTING, DEVELOPMENT:

Emerald Fire continues the epic story of Mara, who finds all's not lost when Dægan died. Seven years after his death, Breandán comes to escort Mara home to her dying father. Creating a story filled with conflict, long-held secrets, conspiracies, and, of course romance, Jenkins continued her tale of Viking honor. Breandán is the perfect knight in shining amour, kind, compassionate, giving, and honorable. Mara knew he had declared his love 7 years earlier, however, she wondered could that love have survived this long time. As the saying goes, "true love is timeless".

Again, Vincent has included sexual tension, without the use of crude language or sex. I could feel the attraction and tension between Mara and Breandán, as they came to know each other again. Tait has a starring role as well as; he will learn secrets which will greatly affect how he see Breandán. The reader also sees the human side of Tait as he interacts with his family; not only a honed fierce warrior, also, a loving father and spouse.

In concluding my reviews for romance novel, Emerald Glory, the reader finds secrets and conspiracies revealed, lives changed, and a traitor revealed. With a steady and smooth plot, Vincent created an intriguing story-line with many threads she brought together to a great finale. As the romance heats up, will Mara and Breandán have their happy ever after? You will have to buy the book to find out. Although a standalone, I would suggest reading Sunset Fires as it will give you greater appreciation for the characters in this book. This is a sweet romance suitable for anyone who loves historical romance.

RECOMMENDATION: STARS 4

In this second installment to the Emerald Isle Trilogy, the story takes place several years after the first ended and we come to learn more of the fate of our characters. How did they overcome such seemingly insurmountable tragedy or have they? Can time really heal all wounds?

Although Dægan’s people still mourn over events long past, they have chosen to rise above and rebuild after the devastation that befell their lives. Many still have trouble coming to terms with the past and obtaining the much needed and deserved peace that seems to be just on the horizon. The next generation is being born and with it comes new roles, titles, and responsibilities for many of the people on Inis Mór. Although the Northmen and the Irish have mostly come to terms with their living arrangements, there are still inner battles for power. Tentative truces will now be tested as new threats emerge.

In this story, we learn more of the man Breandán has grown to be since the fateful decisions he made in the first story. Those decisions set into motion a cataclysm of events that no one could have predicted, but one thing for Breandán that has never changed is his love for Mara. His prayers for one final visit with her have been answered, but at what price? Before long, he finds himself making another fateful decision with again no way of knowing how dire the consequences will be.

Mara is struggling to be the parents her son needs her to be. She looks for and finds assistance within her island family to help give Lochlann the guidance he needs, but something is still missing. Tait has a solution he tries to impose on her, but Mara knows in her heart it would be a mistake and she questions if she is ready or even capable of making the decision. When news comes of the Connacht king’s deadly illness and his invitation for her to come see him one last time, she’s apprehensive to accept. Her soul can only take so much heartache, but she is unable to refuse him. Mara’s growth throughout the story is tremendous considering where she started. I have nothing but complete respect for her.

Much of this story is about choices and remembering the simple pleasures in life that sometimes get taken for granted as well as resolving to learn from past mistakes and then do better. I will admit to being skeptical that this story would capture me as much as the first had, but I was blown away by the awesomeness that is Mac Liam. Ms. Vincent surpassed all of my expectations with her impressive writing abilities, while offering more incites and revelations that will keep readers coming back for more. Readers should be warned of the emotional turmoil they will face once again while reading this incredible story. I eagerly anticipate the next story in this trilogy, yet already mourn the finality.

Will Breandan be able to protect Mara from harms way? Find out if Mara and Breandan return to Inis Mor safely and if both Mara and Breandan can keep their feelings in control for one another in “Mac Liam” by Renee Vincent.

Lust, Secrets, and Lies grace the pages of “Mac Liam.” I was so shocked with the secret that Mara’s father revealed to her. I really did not see that coming. I also really loved the way Breandan goes about winning Mara’s heart. A great Romance Read, I look forward to reading book three in this wonderful series by Renee Vincent.

The continuation of the Emerald Isle trilogy comes to us in Mac Liam, seven years after the Daegan Raeliksen saga, we find Breandan Mac Liam, who was introduced in the first book, still pining after his lost love. He honestly feels no remorse in his pining and only wishes for an opportunity to see the object of his affection again. That opportunity arises when he receives news that the King of Connacht, Mara's father is on his deathbed and wishes to see his only daughter before he passes on. The King has asked that Breandan escort his daughter from Inis Mor to him.

Mara lives in the Isle of Inis Mor with the product of her short but timeless love affair with Daegan, their son Lochlann. Six years after the birth of Lochlann she has neither seen nor heard from her father, Callan, the King of Connacht. She lives under the watchful of of her deceased husband's best friend Tait, the new Chieftain, and Nevan, King on Inis Mor. Lately, Mara, although seemingly content in her existence has been feeling low. She watches as those around her have full lives with intact families and she feels a pang of something if not jealousy. The love she has for her son and the extreme love she still feels for Daegan keep her going but also leave her wanting.

Mac Liam is a story of secrets coming to light and dreams coming true. It is a tale of second chances and enlightenment, acceptance and need. Breandan is a gentleman and a catch and Mara basically has no chance when they are reunited, and after the outcome in Raeliksen, you don't want to see Mara get away either.

Book 2 (Mac Liam) 4 stars

This books takes places 7 years after the last. It is hard not to give spoilers about book one I will try not to.

I like that we still follow Mara and the secondary characters from book 1. We also meet a few new ones as well. My favorite being Aesa and (I forgot his name) Deagan's older brother. I really liked the two of them very much and wished there was a little more about them. The 4th book (which is actually #1 in a new series) I believe, is suppose to continue his story. :)

I am happy to say that this one has a HEA so no worries on that front. Our hero in this book is now the sweet and wonderful Breadan. Again, the hero is far more developed and 3 dimensional than Mara even after this being her second appearance in this series. I still find her character lacking something that I just can't put my finger on. Yes she is beautiful and smart and loving, but I find her somewhat bland and flat. I got a little irritated at her in this one as due to her lack of action at times, and her lack of speaking up (especially when Tait confronts Breadan in the longhouse for the first time). She seems to always just stand back and watch, never trying to intervene. At least she does in the end.

The story is still very good, and I love Breadan he was just so perfect. My problem is that I just don't see why Breadan or Deagan fell in love with Mara. Maybe I am just used to heroines being more active in the conflicts of the books I read? Anyway I still liked it alot and cannot wait to jump into the third book.

Breandan Mac Liam is a man who knows his heart belongs to only one woman, the beautiful Irish princess, Mara. For years he has loved her, dreamed of her, and held her close in his thoughts. However, Mara was the wife of a charming Northman chieftain, Daegan Raeliksen, and she was to remain unattainable to Breandan. When their paths unexpectedly cross years later, much has changed, and Breandan is once again a captive of his love for Mara. Sent to retrieve Mara by her dying father, Breandan must put his own desires aside to protect the woman he loves and return her to her home to grant the last wish of the king. In, "Mac Liam", the second book in "The Emerald Isle Trilogy", Renee Vincent once again takes us back to a time of great adventure and grand passions. Skillfully blending historical fact with exciting action and battle scenes and soul-scorching romance, she places the reader in Ireland of Olde. Her brave and brawny Northmen, the explorers and conquerors, are intriguing and vividly drawn. The conflicts and merging of these two cultures would change the face of the world forever, with far-reaching consequences. An endlessly fascinating era in time for lovers of history and great romantic characters. The third book in the trilogy, "The Fall of Rain", will be released in December, 2011. This is a series to savor, one that will stay in your heart and mind and lead to your own dreams of irresistible Irishmen and magnetic Northmen! A recommended read.

Reviewed by Stephanie O: The twists and turns of book 1 continue along in this installment. Not once was anything given away, you know how when you read a book and say . . “ah, I saw that coming.” That isn’t going to happen here.

So, if you enjoy books that keep you guessing and haven’t read book 1, I suggest you go grab it. Then have on hand book 2, because you are going to want to dive right in.

*****SPOILER ALERT*****
Please do not read any further if you haven’t read book 1. I would hate to ruin the story.

7 years after the death of her husband and Mara’s heart still hasn’t healed. Doing her best to keep his memory alive for their son, she seems to feel as though she is failing him. Wanting a male presence for him, someone for a father figure, but not looking for someone for herself.

Her “father” King Cullan is on his death bed and sends word for her return. The only one he trusts to bring her home is Brendaen. So what could possible happen when you find yourself with a man and woman? One has already spoken of his love for her, and she needs so much more than she is willing to admit.

Honestly if you enjoyed book 1, there is no way book 2 is going to let you down. I couldn’t believe there were even more twists and turns to be had. Reading book 2 just flew by; I had read 100 pages before I even knew it.

In the second book Mara has been a widow for seven years and living on Ins Mor with her son who never knew his father. When Breandan arrives with a message that her father is dying and wants to see her one last time, she must decide whether to stay or go to him with Breandan whom she knew from before. When she does return to her father, with his dying breath, he gives her the most unsettling news that rocks her world. Now, not only is she a widow with a young son to raise, everything she thought to be true, isn't! Breandan returns her to Ins Mor and there they make peace with each other and Mara discovers the truth about her parentage. Once again, the reader is drawn into the story through the descriptions, the emotions and the history. I couldn't put it down!
