Last 2 minutes!! Kainan University is on the lead with only 4-point difference! I'm so exhausted, I've been screaming and cheering like crazy here! Seriously, the story is so alive! Trust Inoue to always breathe life in his creations! This is truly intense!! Also, Sakuragi's free throw, lol, I'm so proud!!

So I've been binge-reading Slam Dunk for a couple of days now. You won't be able to stop reading this once you started to read it. Watched the anime or not, Slam Dunk is definitely a must-read for all manga readers out there.
I have come to a realization after reading 14 volumes that although the anime and the manga have that similar story beats, the anime version really downplays what Sakuragi can really do, being less of an underdog and more of an unpolished gem. He is much more capable on the pages than on the screen.
With that being said, I loved volume 14. Their match between Kainan shows how much the team has improved and how each of the players contributed in their own ways, even though unexpected things (e.g. injuries) happen.

Holy sh*t… I haven’t read a manga that has kept me this mesmerized and excited in a very long time. I completely understand why this is regarded as one of the best manga series of all time. Even if you don’t like sports, once you start reading you just can’t stop. Every panel and moment has been thought out very well. It’s a constant excitement and rush. Love this so much. 10/10 volume~

Slam Dunk, Vol. 14 continues where the previous tankōbon left off and contains the next nine chapters (117–125) of the on-going manga series.
This tankōbon continues the Kanagawa Interhigh Tournament Semifinal match with Shohoku High School and Kainan University Affiliated High School. Although Shohoku takes the lead with Takenori Akagi's moves, Shinichi Maki leads a comeback, easily passing Shohoku's defense, while Soichiro Jin starts making three-pointers.
Mitsuyoshi Anzai then calls for a time out and reorders the players' position to counterattack Maki's offense. As the counterattacks become successful, Hanamichi Sakuragi tries to make a slam dunk but is fouled once again by Maki. However, this time Sakuragi makes the foul shots and Shohoku is down by only six points. As Miyagi also scores, Maki once again expands Kainan's advantage after surpassing Shohoku's defense. By the time there are only two minutes left, Shohoku reduces the difference to four.
This tankōbon is written and illustrated by Takehiko Inoue. For the most part, I really liked the direction of the narrative. The Kanagawa Interhigh Tournament moves inexorably forward in a somewhat slow pace, but entertaining nevertheless. I’ve posted 2 articles about Slam Dunk early this year so I’m sure you guys already have an idea how I adore this series. The anime series was incredible but its manga counterpart is beyond incredible, it was AHA-mazing!
I’m not a sporty kind of girl and I don’t think I’ll be anytime soon, but I think what’s great about reading books and watching shows is that you learn and (kind of) experience a lot of things you don’t normally do in real life. And because of Slam Dunk, I learn to appreciate sports stories and eventually love them.
When I started reading this manga, it felt so nostalgic. It’s not so different in the anime so while reading it, I keep on picturing out all those episodes which I think made my reading experience even more enjoyable.
Slam Dunk showcases a great team work. What I learn to appreciate about sports stories/shows is that it’ll give you a lot of lessons about what it means to be a great sportsman. And Slam Dunk absolutely slammed dunk that part!
I usually watch the anime series first before reading its manga counterpart and as for Slam Dunk, I’ve watched it quite a number of times already and I don’t think I’ll ever stop watching it, *wink. Even after watching the anime, I can still feel the tension, the suspense, and the excitement while reading this manga.
As you can read on its title, this manga centered around the sports basketball and through it weaved a really good story everyone of us will enjoy and appreciate whether you’re into sports or not. Another thing I love about reading manga is that it will never ceased to make you laugh with its funny scenes and Slam Dunk had it big time! I lost count how many times I laughed my heart out reading this masterpiece.
The drawings were really so good too plus those facial expressions were epic, especially Sakuragi’s, haha.
This story has a main character but I love that it didn’t just center around him but the author also gave its other characters a chance to share their own story. I love the character development as well especially Sakuragi’s.
And speaking of Sakuragi, I didn’t eventually like him at first. He’s definitely trouble and I didn’t quite appreciate his annoying antics and his excessive bragging. But all throughout the story, you can’t definitely help it but like his character. As I’ve said above, Sakuragi’s character development is definitely one you should see. From being this good for nothing delinquent, he became a true sportsman. I just absolutely love his improvement not just in basketball but eventually as a person. It’s definitely hard for me to explain but I just LOVE Sakuragi. Ofcourse he can still be an airhead sometimes but I can see now that it’s one of the things that makes him quite likeable, haha.
Slam Dunk has some pretty amazing group of characters and as I’ve said in this article, they come in varieties so I’m sure a lot of readers can find some characters they can relate and love.
The anime series left off the national championship and let me tell you guys, it was already good as it is. It was full of intense scenes with a right blend of humor but the national championship parts were sooooooo good I can still feel its intensity even after finishing this manga. Actually, I cried pretty hard when they won! You should definitely read it!!!
Although the ending felt short which ofcourse makes you want to ask for more, I guess it was still a pretty good and hopeful ending, not just for team Shohoku but for the other teams as well. Besides, after that intense match with Sannoh, I don’t think Slam Dunk failed me.
So if you’re looking for an intense sports shonen manga to read, Slam Dunk should be on top of your list.

Shohoku was doing well, but near the end of the first half, Akagi was injured in his leg and was taken to the medical office. Shohoku became unstable due to the absence of Akagi, but Sakuragi and Rukawa defended the bottom of the goal and filled the hole in Akagi. In addition, Rukawa showed his amazing scoring ability to fill the gap between the points that had been opened by the end of the first half of the game.
Akagi couldn't keep his ankles rising proprerly, but he instructed his manager, Ayako, to fix it with taping, and he managed to avoid the pain and returned to the second half．
However, with Maki from the inside and Jin's offense from the outside, the points widened at once. Therefore, Anzai placed four people, Akagi, Mitsui, Miyagi, and Rukawa to contain Maki, and made Sakuragi go to Jin for one-on-one diffence.
In the last 10 seconds, Mitsui's 3-point shot has missed, and Sakuragi took the rebound and turned it to Akagi under the goal and gave a pass to carry it over to the tie, but the opponent was Takasago, the Kainan's center.
The chance to close the gap was cut off due to a painful pass mistake, and the match ended with Kainan's victory by two points.

I can't help but speed read through these volumes. It's an intense and fast-paced match, and it looks like Kainan has Shohoku's number. Every time our boys find a way to fight back you see Kainan pulling out something new. They've got a deeper bench with a lot of talented players who worked hard to get where they are, and Shohoku's key players are exhausted. Time is running out and our protagonists (especially Akagi, with his injury) are starting to fall apart. Takehiko Inuoue keeps this game going for longer than the others and it just keeps getting more exciting the further we get along. There are a few particularly great sequences this volume that show movement on the court in an incredible way, instead of just specific splash pages.

THIS WAS SO INTENSE!!!
I feel exhausted after reading this, the intensity of the game against Kainan is unmeasurable. The game is nearly finished and still anybody cand win, has Shoyo ever put this kind of pressure in Kainan? I would love to know that.
I know Maki is an incredible plyer but i feel like we haven't seen everything from him, and if he's gonna show us in the next volume, then Shohoku will have no chance (i saw the anime so i know the outcome but i don't remember how it happened xD).
Another amazing instalment in the series, i can't believe how fast i'm reading this. I can't catch up to other mangas cause i can't let Slam Dunk go.

This is very very close to a 5 and I love this series already so I'm giving it a 5.
First, the art in this is amazing. Especially that of Jin's shooting form. Omg those panels without any words just the shooting, so much style.
Plus Sakuragi here is phenomenal. Akagi is phenomenal. How does Akagi do it man.
Sakuragi is such a legend too, the free throws lmao.
Also Jin defeating Mitsui by sheer dedication and practice. <3 beautifully realistic.
Anzai's sensei tactic to defeat Maki <3 <3

At the time of this review, I have read volumes 1-17 back-to-back. As always, I will try to only focus on the current review.
I want to talk about Sendoh and Coach Anzai. These two know what's up. Coach Anzai seems to ignore conventional wisdom and seems to have the attitude of "You are going to do this whether you are tired or not." It's not in a mean way more of a factual way, if they want to win this game which is their desire. Sendoh seems to be a fan of Sakuragi or at the very least seems to be quite curious on what Sakuragi is going to do. Based on a previous volume, Sakuragi makes the game interesting for him, which is similar to Hinata and Atsumu from Haikyu.
Verdict: This was really good!

There's a reason this is the top-selling manga of all time (Is that right?)!
I am totally hooked on Slam Dunk, making an intentional trip back to my school during the break just to grab more volumes.
Volume 14 pits Shohoku against the Kainan Kings, a team that has made the nationals 16 years straight and counting. But Akagi, the captain and center of Shohoku, has been dreaming about nationals since junior high. Ankle injury or not, he is playing to win!

It is unreal how tense Takehiko Inoue can make a basketball match, with the constant back and forth between who is winning, ensuring that my attention is firmly held by this volume. Between Akagi's ticking time-bomb of a bad ankle, the various abilities of the powerhouse team that is Kainan, and the ever unpredictable Sakuragi, this is masterful work that has me on tenterhooks with each volume that I read.

This is simply the best sports series out there. Period. No offense to any Blue Lock fans - I'm a fan too - but this series is just so successful at maintaining feelings of tension and excitement and drive in a way where you can sink back into those feelings no matter how long of a break you take between volumes, which is definitely not a feeling I've gotten from reading Blue Lock. It proves to me this is a series to savor rather than binge.

Maki è un portento e ha messo in serie difficoltà lo Shohoku, sentivo la tremarella tutto il tempo, l'ansia e la speranza. Sakuragi è una certezza, gli manca parecchio in fatto di nozioni o allenamento ma ha una grinta incredibile quando vuole. Questa partita ti lascia col fiato sospeso tutto il tempo.

Con Slam Dunk me pasa algo raro. Digamos que cuando veo un partido de la NBA, me recuerda a Slam dunk. Como si lo imitara y no al revés. La génesis, al menos para parte de mí, se encuentra en el manga y no en gringolandia. Mejora cómo vivo la realidad.

One of the more iconic of sports manga. It's the first series where I actually both read the manga and watched the anime. It has flawed protagonists, growing up pains, colourful characters, and beautiful meaningful relationships, all neatly wrapped around the context of college basketball.

I feel exhausted after reading this volume lol. It just keeps getting more and more intense.
I really like how Akagi keeps going he has a real fighting spirit.
And i feel so proud of Sakuragi for finally making his free throws.

Akagi who was injured during the last volume regained his health and got back to the court. They are doing well and the game is really intense since both teams are just 4 points apart of each other.
