When Maddi Drake inherits an old house from her great aunt, she decides to move in and fix it up. But it seems she isn't quite alone there. Then she meets the perfect man...so she thinks. But someone in the house disagrees.
This novella combines a little mystery, a little humor, and a little romance for a quick, entertaining read.
Feeling frightened now, but knowing she had to see what was down there, she turned on the lights like she had done the night before and went cautiously down the stairs. The glow was coming from the parlor again. She walked in, only to find that the glow had disappeared as it had last night. She felt uneasy in the dark, but she didn’t turn on the light switch just yet. She waited in the dark to see if anything brushed against her like it did last night. She was scared, but she wanted to find out if it was her imagination or not. Then she felt it. Not anything brushing against her this time, but something almost like a soft breath on the back of her neck. She shivered. Her first impulse was to run for the light switch. But there was also a sense of curiosity that she couldn’t deny. She was frightened and fascinated at the same time. She waited there in the darkness for something else to happen. She felt it again, that slight stirring of air at her neck that felt like someone breathing lightly on her. Suddenly, she couldn’t stand it anymore. She rushed to the light switch and flipped it on, twirling around to look at the spot where she was standing. There was no one there. She hadn’t really expected to see anything or anybody. But she knew something had happened.
She started to turn and go out of the room, but she saw something out of the corner of her eye. She turned back and faced where she had been standing earlier. There on the floor was a scrap of paper. She knew it hadn’t been there before. She cautiously walked toward the paper, and then stooped to pick it up. There on the paper were two words. See me.
I fell in love with this book. It starts out slow, but it definitely picks up pace. Even if the ending is predictable-- I still loved the writing style.
I really enjoyed this novella. It's about this young woman, Maddi Drake, who is the new owner of an old house that's haunted. The story starts off with a creepy kind of feeling. Maddi just arrived there and is already hearing noises. She investigates, sees a glow from downstairs that quickly disappears, and goes back to bed. Over the course of the story, the odd things going on in the house continues to get more pronounced, which I thought was well done. I didn't feel that the story was rushed. I thought the pacing was just right, so the suspense was built up nicely.
Maddi meets a good looking man named David, and they date a few times. I personally liked it that Maddi stuck to her guns and didn't sleep with him. At the end of the story, the reader discovers why it's good she didn't. There is a ghost in the house, and the ghost plays a vital role in helping Maddi when she needs it most. I won't elaborate since I don't want to spoil the book, except to say when the ghost warned her of the impending 'Danger', he wasn't fooling around.
Overall, the story didn't drag, and there were moments of good humor, like when she was running from the noises and bumped into a doorway. I thought the writing was fine. I was compelled to keep reading to find out what would happen next and enjoyed it. If someone is looking for a cute story to pass away an afternoon, I think this book will satisfy.
See Me by Lauralynn Elliott When Maddi Drake inherits a home of her own, she finds herself having to share the space. Her guest doesn’t take up much room but he has taken a disliking to the handsome David Goliath who is helping her fix up the house and sharing dinners with her.
Maddi soon finds herself in a dilemma. On one hand she has David who is real and handsome. On the other hand, she finds herself attracted to her unseen guest who really doesn’t communicate very well. Or does he?
This was a quick and enjoyable read. The story pulled me in and didn’t let go until the end. There was a touch of mystery, an annoying Realtor, a cat, romance and humor. I really enjoyed it. This is a novella. http://justjudysjumbles.blogspot.com/...
Lauralynn adds to her interesting take on the supernatural with this story. A new setting for a young woman who find things around her are not always as they seem. Always entertaining in her development and charaters Lauralynn has added another good read to her list. I look forward to her next novel that should be out soon.
