Mere Temptation is Daisy Harris’ first published work and will available this month in e-format with the paperback due next year! I was so excited to get my hands on an e-copy for review! I haven’t seen many mermaid stories being written and no other stories with ocean shifters. The book did not disappoint!

Isa is a mermaid caught between fryhood and adulthood. Too old to be a fry and yet not ready to become an adult. The only way to transition is to give yourself to a mermaid/ocean shifter, in every way. In doing so you give up your ability to stay away from the water. Isa sees this as a leash she isn’t willing to put on and so while all her childhood friends have made the decision, she hedges even years later. Because there is another choice. Give yourself to a human and you can stay human forever. Isa is caught between wanting to stay the same and give up all that she has ever known. Years ago she ran away from the one boy who might have had the ability to make her stay.

When Isa realizes she is being followed on land by scientists eager to study her kind by any means necessary, she heads to the safest place she knows….home. After so many years Isa wasn’t expecting to run into the man who made her run in the first place. The first person she sees is Sidon. Except he isn’t a cute, bumbling teen any longer. He has grown into a gorgeous male water dragon. He has also been put in charge of protecting their sanctuary making him near Isa at all times.

When Isa gets attacked any dormant feelings Sidon might have had return in full protective force. Together they work to find out who is hunting her and kidnapping other mermaid children for experiments. With the decision to change human or mermaid permanently hanging over her head, Isa may have to decide what and who she loves quickly.

Karon and Gracie are on the ship that is masterminding the kidnapping for the scientists. Karon has executed many missions just like this one but his relationship with a past captive, Gracie is clouding his brain and giving him a conscience. Gracie, a succubus, is working both sides. Having growing feelings for Karon and a need to want to help those like her. Convincing Karon that the mission is wrong is going to take all of Gracie’s charms.

I absolutely loved this short story! I haven’t ever read a mermaid story before and honestly, there aren’t many out there anyway. I love shifter stories but felt like I needed a break from my furry friends. Mere Temptation was a perfect break from the norm. Daisy blends shifter with lore perfectly! Mere Temptation is extremely well wrote and flows quickly. Her descriptive writing will let you experience the colors of her ocean world. From the blue rippling waves to the salty sea air, Daisy will enrapture you with the experience. Book two. Mere Passion, is due out in e-form in December, and I can’t wait to read more of her underwater views!

I give Mere Temptation 4.5 stars!!

I needed to read a book with a 'water shifter' as part of a book challenge. Noticing 'Ocean Shifters' in the title of this story, I read the synopsis and figured it would fit perfectly.

I enjoyed the mere (mermaid) shifter side of the story and even the dragons, but then vampires were added to the mix and it was all just a bit too much for me. I prefer the shifter stories I read to focus on one type of shifter or two at the most, three or four and I'm a goner.

So while it was a well written story, it wasn't a winner for me.

Not bad reading but I did find a lot of unclear parts. it took me a while to understand the world they lived in and there are still some unknown details. But it is well written and the general sorry line is good

Have you ever looked for an excuse to enable you to do something that you really wanted to do? Maybe you thought it wasn't the best course of action but you really really wanted it anyway. Well, if so then you'll find you have a great deal in common with the heroine in this story.

When I received this title and skimmed the first little bit I was sort of skeptical. The title did not suggest mermaids in any way to me and I wasn't sure what to make of this development, but before long I was totally engrossed in the drama playing out before my eyes. The only mermaid story I've had any experience with was my daughters' copy of Disney's The Little Mermaid and truthfully it always kind of pissed me off. I would have never left the ocean.

Right away I found another mermaid thinking about becoming human, but somehow I could tell that her heart was telling her otherwise. Isa finally found what, I believe, she had been looking for in Landworld when some very iffy characters began chasing her. She found an excuse to go home (hence my opening question) and right back into the arms of the dragon she loved as a young girl. Danger follows in the form of the bad men chasing her and the rest will just have to be for you to discover on your own. There were some wonderful little twists made into this story.

I truly enjoyed the approach Ms. Harris used for the “mere” folk and her brilliance in finding a way to incorporate dragons. Isa's personal dragon was hot as blazes and what they did together felt even hotter! I assure you I'm headed out on the Web to see if Ms. Harris has expanded on this story. I would love to find a series. Head on out and find Mere Temptation for yourself.

Rachel's Review

Just when you think you’ve read everything in Paranormal Romance, along comes a fresh voice. Daisy Harris has captured a world of mere people, dragon shifters, and crazy mad-scientists that will keep you flipping the page to find out what she’s going to throw at you next. With a smooth blend of emotion, heat, and bio-research, the story grips anyone searching for the different.

I loved the raw intensity behind the emotion in the story and the urgency behind the mission to save the mere people. When a mere and dragon choose each other regardless of the plan from society, their love will bind them closer and rise higher than the stigma surrounding them.

The characters pull the story along and will have you rooting for both sides. A definite must read and I look forward to more in this series.

So, apparently the characters are adults now but the way it was juvenilely written seemed like they were still teens. The transitioning was somewhat off as well. A thing would happen and then another thing would happen suddenly, like wasn't this character doing another thing? How'd he or she get there so fast?

A very interesting take on the mermaid sub-genre. There were a few plot things that came across a little predictable, but they didn't bother me in the end.

It is racy, but then, what from Daisy Harris isn't?
