Movie audiences fell in love with the rogue, the farmboy, the princess, the villain cloaked in black. Each had his or her place in the universe, and each possessed a unique style.
"I recognized your foul stench when I was brought on board."
"Let the Wookiee win."
"Do. Or do not. There is no try."
No series of movies--before or since--has yielded so many memorable moments as the Star Wars trilogy. Those moments are captured here, for everyone to carry and enjoy so that, now and forever . . .
Sansweet was born and educated in Philadelphia Pennsylvania. He studied at Temple University from 1962 to 1966, majoring in journalism. Three years after graduating, in 1969, he began work as a reporter at the Wall Street Journal in both Philadelphia and Montreal. He was promoted to deputy bureau chief in 1984, and later the chief of Wall Street Journal's Los Angeles bureau in 1987. In February 1996, he joined Lucasfilm as director of specialty marketing. He is currently director of content management and in charge of fan relations.
Sansweet's collection has also been featured on the History Channel's Boy's Toys special "Private Collections".
This is cool little reference book about Star Wars quotes, and when I say "little" it's due that the publication format is certainly of small dimensions, but big in content since here, you'll find many of the most popular quotes used in the original trilogy.
Yes, this is the only incovenient about this book, since it was published a long time ago, before of the prequel trilogy and obviously then way way before of the newer films like The Force Awakens or Rogue One, but still is cool collector's item.
I have no doubt that there's must be some better updated quoting book around, but I can only comment about what you can find in this one that's in my personal collection.
Worthless. Sansweet should be ashamed of himself for helping Lucasfilm milk more money from Star Wars fans for this uninspired compilation of quotes - every normal resident of the galaxy had memorized these a long time ago. A wise Jedi knows that Lucasfilm, on the other hand, will never be ashamed of its sithful merchandising greed.
There are thousands of wretched hives of scum and villainy on the HoloNet (i.e., unauthorized fan sites) where the wary smuggler can procure the same quotes. And if time is of the essence, one can always make an IMDB run in less than 12 parsecs.
In the many years ago, there was a time when publishers would sell a collection of quotes in a small sized book with a large typeface for a nominal price point. This is one of those books. The pro is it was published before the new movies, so the lines are classic. The other pro is that as my memory fades I will have all the quotes I know in an easy desk reference from which to refer to for the younglings who will most certainly argue with me in my later years.
Not extensive enough to be a definitive reference book, but I don't think it was intended to be. There's an undercurrent of humor running through the book that I personally enjoyed. Did I like it? Yes. Would I reread it? Yes. It helps that the book is short enough to get through in one sitting. Would I recommend it? In most cases, yes. However it would also depend on what the prospective reader was looking for.
Really cute little book (pocket-sized) that contains some of the best quotes from the original three Star Wars movies. Among my favorites:
C-3PO: "We seem to be made to suffer. It's our lot in life."
Luke Skywalker: "I can't get involved. I've got work to do."
Han Solo: "I take orders from just one person: Me!" "Never tell me the odds!"
Princess Leia: "Help me, Obi-Wan Kenobi. You're my only hope."
Obi-Wan Kenobi: "In my experience, there is no such thing as luck." "Who's the more foolish ... the fool or the fool who follows him?" "There are alternatives to fighting." "If you strike me down, I shall become more powerful than you can possibly imagine." "You're going to find that many of the truths we cling to depend greatly on our own point of view." "The Force will be with you ... always."
Darth Vader: "Don't underestimate the Force!"
Yoda: "If once you start down the dark path, forever it will dominate your destiny." "Adventure. Heh! Excitement. Heh! A Jedi craves not these things." "So certain are you. Always with you it cannot be done." "You must unlearn what you have learned." "Try not. Do. Or do not. There is no try."
Lando Calrissian: "I'm responsible these days. It's the price you pay for being successful."
I have to say, I love this little guy. I carried it with me everywhere and loved reading it. Not that I really needed it, cuz I had the movies memorized. Most of the people who buy this, won't need it but there's a reason to buy this anyway. Every quote you read brings the scene to mind and I found myself laughing at nearly every single page.
I won't say that you have to buy this, but I will say I've gotten a lot of joy out of this and don't regret it.
Is it bad that I can immediately catch all the quotes that are just a little off (or are based on the script but not what was actually in the movie)? :-)
I read this in the bookstore. It took roughly five minutes, and most of it came from my own memory, as opposed to what was printed on the page. As simplistic and cynical a cash-in item as you can imagine, this is an over-expensive fan to cool yourself with on a hot day...not an actual book worth the time of any "Star Wars" fanboy or fangirl. Compare this to the magnificent, thematically-organized, artistically-assembled "Doctor Who" equivalent; it's a stale cheese & tomato sandwich, next to a gourmet Kobe beef steak dinner. Unworthy, unwarranted, and undeserving of anyone's cash or library card usage.
