The FL is understandably a little naive and clueless given that she’s a sheltered young girl, but the way her thoughts are written makes her come across as more dumb and helpless than simply inexperienced. The way she processes things are what make her difficult to connect with as a protagonist.
The interactions between the leads also feel quite forced. It seems like the story is rushing them toward each other while focusing more on their outward appearance and attraction than on actually developing their personalities or relationship. The FL in particular doesn’t seem to have much personality beyond being beautiful, with flowery descriptions of her appearance constantly being repeated.
The emotions throughout the story are another issue for me. Characters often smile or laugh in situations where it doesn’t quite make sense, making those moments feel forced and sometimes like they’re only there to push the leads closer together. Other times, the emotions are exaggerated to the point of feeling overly dramatic rather than genuine.
A lot of scenes seem to move in directions that don’t make much logical sense. That lack of logic, combined with the surface-level characterization, makes it difficult for me to fully immerse myself in the story.
Ultimately, I think the author’s writing style just doesn’t click with me. I’ve watched a TV adaptation of one of her novels and really enjoyed it, but when I tried reading the original novel, I couldn’t finish it. I’m having the same experience here, so I might have to watch the TV adaptation of this one too.
