The author's idea of radical forgiveness/self-forgiveness is strongly rooted in supernatural beliefs about souls, angels, and the belief that "everything happens for a reason". As someone who has no experience with souls, angels, or evidence of any innate purpose to the universe, this book's message is of limited value.
If the idea were better expanded upon, radical forgiveness/self-forgiveness could be cultivated completely within the paradigm of material reality. Purposelessness and no-self are paths to the same end of this book, yet the author fights these ideas. He prefers seeing us as having multiple selves and believes strongly that there is a divine order to everything. Some people may benefit more from seeing through the self altogether and letting go of needing a grand explanation for why things happen. With those concepts eliminated, one can see that things happen on their own and thus there's no need to blame people for the inevitable.
This version of Radical Forgiveness focuses on SELF forgiveness. He begins by looking at what self-forgiveness is, the different “selves” that we have, and working with guilt and shame. Part II presents the tools that you can use to help heal the issues within yourself. The author begins by explaining the five stages of Radical Self-Forgiveness. He then presents the Three Letters Process. This transitions into spiritual intelligence and making an apology. We then arrive at the Radical Self-Forgiveness Worksheet. This takes the stage of the Radical Forgiveness Worksheet and tweaks the steps so that you can use them for self-forgiveness. There is a chapter at the end for using this process to heal issues with finances, obesity, and health problems.
I got more out of this version of Radical Forgiveness than the others, most likely because I know that I harbor a lot of animosity towards myself in my being. Reading this book has been eye-opening, and as I am working through the process, I am feeling things change for me.
When you're ready to face the things that make you doubt yourself, this is a great way to go through the process. This book helped work through several self-destructive behaviors and thought processes.
Full of good tools for self-forgiveness and self-reflection. Some of the spiritual ideas in this book were a bit too radical for me to understand or accept at first, but I can see what he was getting at for the most part.
I ran across this book at Half Price Books and picked it up randomly, I figured it looked interesting and I enjoy self-awareness exercises. I was SO BLESSED by the information in this book. It's definitely rather spiritual, but the author makes a point that the information and exercises can apply to anyone-regardless of spiritual beliefs. After finishing it, I truly feel like i've come to a new place in my life. It's a good read for anyone willing to get to know themselves better and willing to accept, grieve and move forward from situations in life that often hold us back.
Read the book and downloaded the free worksheets on Tipping's web site. I'd heard some people talking about how "powerful" completing the worksheets was for them. I thought I'd already done plenty of forgiveness work, so I wasn't expecting to make the discoveries or see the patterns that I did. It lived up to the hype for me.
This book does not deserve one star. It contains ideas and concepts that are false and misleading, such as the fable that a murderer did nothing wrong but was fufilling her incarnation's destiny.
This book started me me on the correct path for healing from some very intense events in my life. A wonderful way to reframe those events through love and forgiveness.
The title alone made me curious. As a person, this strikes a hard cord. Radical SELF-Forgiveness. It’s a concept people don’t always appreciate. Facing the “negative” aspects/traits/characteristics of ourselves. Many would rather stay in denial and not face those things.
This gives a basic rundown(WITH exercises) on how to achieve this Radical Self-Forgiveness, which many of us don’t understand. Or feel we’re unworthy of.
Whether you have religious affiliations or are an atheist, this book gives you tools to help you examine yourself as a human, as a soul/spirit. Some of the things mentioned sounded a little farfetched, however, as I tried the exercises...I found I was feeling much more at ease, more peaceful and much more accepting of myself.
I would definitely recommend this book for someone looking to learn HOW to forgive themselves. Someone at that point in their lives, where they WANT something better for themselves.
This is a fascinating premise, but I think its effectiveness is conditional on a belief in the idea of past lives, the evolution of the soul over the course of several lives, and the concept that a soul chooses to work on learning specific lessons during each incarnation. If you don't believe this idea, then you need to be at least open to the idea. Even without a belief in reincarnation, there are some interesting activities included that help you see yourself in various ways, including how you change to fit in with different groups, how others view you, and various aspects of yourself that over the years, you've given up for various reasons. I have completed the radical forgiveness form, and it helped me see in a completely different light a "wrong" done to me over 45 years ago. Baggage I've been carrying for a long time, and the form helped me to finally let it go.
It can be so much easier to forgive others than to offer forgiveness to ourselves. I heard someone talk about Tipping's "Radical Forgiveness" process in a discussion about sorrow. I chose this one to quiet my inner critic, learning about his first book's precepts in the Introduction. It's a concept that I like but can't quite fully accept... that things unfold as they are divinely meant to and there are many aspects of a situation we cannot see or control. Often things happen to us for our own benefit. This fits into the Mussar concept of "tests" we face for the opportunity to grow.
Welp, I guess my therapist planted the seed, because it turns out she recommended this book to me last week. And today, I not-so-accidentally listened to it.
I found the worksheet hard to access, even after having read the book... some of Tipping's concepts are difficult. But with that said, I think he has a lot to say about the healing process and its latter stages. So that was helpful information.
Journaling is in my tool kit, and while this book didn't teach me anything knew about the power of writing your story (or anything) down, writing the three letters certainly helped me; and I appreciate it.
My biggest question for Audible is: Where is the worksheet??? I've read many books that come with downloadable material and I couldn't find the one for the section that talks about it.
The title is misleading, indeed. It should be called "The Power of the Three Letters".
This book contains a lot of tools for Radical Self-Forgiveness, Self-Love and Radical-Acceptance. I loved the tools but I have found this book to be a bit too practical. But I guess that’s because the theory was in the first book. Still, very useful and would recommend it.
Really helpful exercises and paradigm thinking - in the spiritual world, there is no wrong. You made soul contracts with people before coming here. Allow what happens to you, happen to you.
