Michael Jackson left a legacy of extraordinary showmanship and endlessly influential music. Michael Jackson Treasures pairs a compelling exploration of his story with photographs and memorabilia that illuminate h is fascinating, complicated life. Featuring a number of rare pieces, including selected pages from the Jackson children’s high school yearbook, the patent for the antigravity lean shoes from “Smooth Criminal,” and a fancifully die-cut mask from the Dangerous Tour, Michael Jackson Treasures is a trove of powerful images and ephemera from a truly global superstar.
I have mixed feelings on this whole book. The memorabilia is pretty neat. It makes it a bit like a miniature museum. The author who wrote the book does seem kind of opinionated at times. Some of his research is questionable, especially when he used the Taraborrelli book as a reference. With the exception of the reproductions of items like tickets and photos, the rest of the content didn't really live up to my expectations.
This book is a easy, quick read and has many great photos and the memorabilia items (like concert tickets, marriage licence, etc) are great fun. Sadly I have to give the book a lower rating because it does contain factual errors (such as the extent of plastic surgery and the details around the purchase of the ATV catalogue) or leaves clarifying facts out and too often cites a Tarraborrelli who has proved himself an unreliable source.
With the MJ collection I have, I would have to say this is one of my top favourites. As a life long fan of the King of Pop, I have often said “I was born in the wrong era” having not been around when MJ hit it big with “Thriller” and still being in nappies when he performed at Parramatta stadium in the 80’s.. but this treasure trove compensated for a lot as it takes you through the life of the legend by celebrating his achievements and art through memorabilia and photos!! some great memorabilia include print outs of concert tickets, special edition posters, even prints of his marriage/divorce certificates and last will and testament!! I am forever grateful for the day I walked into my local bookstore and saw this last copy on the shelf!! -long live the king-
An interesting read, King mostly tries to remain unbias in his account of MJ's life. The only thing that bothered me with this book was the placement of the treasures. I'd be halfway through a store and then a treasures page would pop up that had nothing to do with what I was reading. So there was a little bit of flicking back and forth to finish stories and then inspect treasures. But other than that this is a great read and a must have for any fan.
This is a really good book about Michael Jackson from when he started music as a child leading to his demise with death. Very informative and interesting. It has memorabilia, copies of his concert tickets, and other interesting documents of his life's journey-court documents, marriage license to Lisa Marie Presley, and more. A friend gave this book to me and I really enjoyed it. A keeper!
