Read this book. If you can find it. A favorite professor loaned it to me, and I failed to return it. I promise, I'm not always so bad about giving books back. But I found this in a box the other day, and I'm reading it all over again. Koning died in April 2007, but The Almost World is one of the most astonishing travelogues I've ever read.

Excellent treasure chest of thoughts, it should be a bible for any one caring for this world, its future, human rights, animal rights, environment, justice. Alas! Almost 40 years have passed since The Almost World was published and we are struggling with the same problems. It is a sad forecast for [to quote e.ecummings:] human (un)kind.
