Kiera Rowan has led a quiet life, as one of the immortal SpellKeepers. Her life is dedicated to the preservation of magical knowledge until the day one unspeakable act of violence rips her world apart. With her sister murdered by a savage rogue wolf and one of the Books of Power missing, Keira must cross a frozen landscape in a desperate bid to bring her sister's killer to justice.
Haunted by his past, Bastian Mallek has abandoned his pack in the desperate pursuit of the wolf that murdered his mate. Broken and alone, his life threatens to spin dangerously out of control, until the day when the hauntingly beautiful witch offers him the key to his own salvation-the destruction of the murderous rogue but first he must regain control of his own dark impulses and put aside his growing hunger for Kiera.
Bastian is a werewolf. Having left his pack years ago to search for Bram, a rogue wolf, he has been tracking him for years with no luck.
Keira is a witch - a spellkeeper, who lives with her sisters, protecting books of power.
Now, Bram has killed one of Keira's sisters and stolen one of their books - one that has the names of every demon and details of how to summon them, and Keira must approach Bastian for help tracking him.
Together they must find Bram, kill, him and get the book of power back, before Bram's pack of rogues find them.
This book was okay. The storyline is okay, the writing is okay (there are a few spelling mistakes and grammatical errors but nothing much), and the erotic scenes are alright. The problem I found was that there was no 'falling in love' part. The characters went from hating each other, to being mated with no in-between at all. There was no 'should we? shouldn't we?', no 'oh gosh I'm falling for him', it was just 'you dirty dog', and then a couple of pages later 'don't stop.'which just seemed really weird, especially when it turned out that wolves and witches aren't allowed to mate!
Overall this book was okay, but just missing that extra something to make it great. 5 out of 10. (Book length: 1579 Kindle locations)(Downloaded for free)
This story was... a little chaotic. It started well enough. The end, though, was odd. I think it would have worked nicely with a little more explanation about what was going on or with a little more time spent learning about pack hierarchy. I'm also assuming this is the first in a series since it ended with a lot of setup for (what should be) later stories.
This book was a free Kindle download I picked up 01/26/12 for the Why Buy the Cow? reading challenge.
I loved this book! I'm in love w/Bastien. Eventually, they'll be a full-fledged review. I really enjoyed it. AmyLeBlanc is a new writer to watch out for. I'm looking forward to the 2nd Spellkeepers book!
