This novel tells the story of the 1980 siege of the Iranian embassy in London and the SAS operation that freed the hostages, using a combination of stun guns, sub-machine guns and 9mm high-power handguns. All of this in front of the world's media.
Part fact part fiction?? Difficult to know how much of this is using artistic license , however, there is a good resume of the facts. I always considered that the attack by the DAD was stage managed to give publicity but I now learn that ITV fluffed their way into a building to get live coverage of the event. I still look back with pride and proud to be British.
Written by someone very knowledgeable about SAS operations, "Embassy Siege" is a retelling of an incident at the Iranian Embassy in London. At times, recounting events, it has a definite non-fiction feel to it. A slow build up, but comes home with a wet sail. Some clunky dialogue between the SAS troopers, but good action.
Speed read. The only parts that really mattered were the initial takeover, negotiations with terrorists and the climax. All of these elements were fun.
