Princess Isabella and her Shetland Pony, Penny, must collect all the magic jewels in this easy chapter book written especially for horse lovers.
It's the day of Princess Isabella's coronation, and her fairy godmother sends her on a quest to help her become a good queen. At first, Isabella isn't sure which horse to pick. The fastest? The biggest? She decides on Penny, the smartest horse in the stable.
Together, Isabella and Penny set out on a journey to find twelve jewels. On the way, Isabella learns that the keys to being a good queen are inside her--kindness, courage, and wisdom!
I thought that it was really fun because I'm really interested in jewels, princesses, and animals. It was a little bit easy but I still really liked it. It reminds me of Cinderella because it has a fairy godmother.
Princess Isabella is awaiting her coronation day. When it comes, she is met with a task that leaves her in the woods! I love the entire Breyer Stabkemates because I think their stories are most accurate, especially about the wildlife. I will definetly have this in my classroom! I would recommend this story to kids in kindergarten through 2nd grade.
My 6 yr old loves these Stablemates books. Penny was a cute story and had a princess as well as a pony so its an obvious favorite in our house. Just the right length. (not so short that we need to read a second book and not too long for me to sit down and read it)
My favorite part was when she found ALL of the jewels and she got a jewelled crown and became queen. Her horse Penny was a really good one. --little e, age 6
Princess Isabella is to become Queen Isabella but first she has to complete a task of gathering twelve jewels. She has to visit four locations, each of which will produce three jewels for her. To help her she needs to choose one of her horses. She ends up picking Penny, a shetland pony. Penny isn't the biggest or the strongest or the fastest horse but she just might be the most intelligent. The two of them then head out on Isabella's quest. Throughout it Penny demonstrates that chosing her was a wise decision. This is a level three reader thus it is good for those who are starting to master the art of reading. At the same time a younger child will probably enjoy having this one read to them. The artwork is also pleasant, which is a bonus. Happy reading.
This was a hand-me-down book set that was gifted to us knowing my love for horses growing up, which so far seems to be true for both of my kids as well. My husband called this book "insidious" for it's advertising of Breyer toys in the back of the book, especially after I pointed out it is a Breyer book. Personally, I thought the story length was perfect for small children. Not overly enthralling, but a cute story just the same. Won't surprise me to find the other in the to-read list sooner rather than later.

I like to read books before my daughter to vet the content.
This was a cute book about a princess who must pass a test to become queen. Her and her pony, Penny, adventure out together to find 12 jewels for her crown. This book has a very low word count but it does contain some trickier words. I think my daughter will LOVE reading about a princess and her pony.
"Mom, guess what?! I read this WHOLE book at one time. I LOVED it. My favorite parts were every time she found jewels."
After being so disappointed with the 1st book, this wonderful 3rd book is the main reason I continued reading this cute series. It's almost time for the princess's ceremony to be sworn in as queen....but, first, she must complete a quest sent forth by her Godmother. With her wonderful pony, Penny, to help her, she searches for the lost jewels needed to complete her queenly crown. And, of course, they find them. My only problem with this story is that the jewels were too easy to find. Overall, I really liked this one.
My feels! This book brings back so many wonderful memories when I was little. I read this book so many times, I even read it to my FurReal toy Shetland Pony Penny, who I named after the pony in the book. It makes me wonder what happened to that wonderful little book, it's been so long now that I doubt I still have it. What a shame. :(
This is a perfect early chapter book for late first grade to second grade. This is going to attract girls' attention more than boys' but it is good for those who love horses. It's a good story about committing to a quest and doing everything to accomplish something through hard work.
