I felt as if I were there living the life along with Emilie. If you love Anne of Green Gables, you'll love this one. Set in Quebec at the turn of the century, this novel tells the life of Emilie as she starts teaching then married life after she meets Ovila and his family.
It's the Québécois Anne of Green Gables with little of the charm, unfortunately. The main character manages to leave home, fall in love, and have 8 (wow) babies without experiencing a single feeling. Her only personality trait is being Virtuous ™. Oh well. Worth reading if you're super interested in Québécois history, but we are blessed with many other Quebec authors who are more lively to read.

Love this story. I read it in French when it was first printed. What a love story. To the readers of the English version - I wonder if some of the descriptions and expressions seem different to you. I wonder if you can hear the accent in the translation. I did. Just curious.
