Sharron Riddle lives on the west coast of Florida. She loves reading almost as much as she does writing. Her bookshelves are filled with classics as well as her favorite modern authors. She wrote her first novel more than 12 years ago. Once she began typing, she never stopped.
Sharron loves all things scary, and shares her love of the macabre in her adult and young adult paranormal adventures.
Her first book, To Kill a Vampire, will be available Dec. 17 from Wild Rose Press under her pen name Julianna Sage.
Sharron toyed with the idea of a pen name, hence Julianna Sage, and like many authors thought better of it. Unfortunately, not soon enough to have it changed on her first book.
To Kill a Vampire by Julianna Sage is a different and interesting Vampire story. The vampires themselves are vastly different from ones that we normally read about. It’s part of what makes this tale so engrossing. To Kill a Vampire is the author’s first book and overall she does an excellent job. It’s a complex book about love and the battle between good and evil. The dialog is well written and the story flows smoothly though most of the book. The characters have good depth and are interesting. Erik is a vampire that has been living with grief and guilt for over 100 years. He falls in love with Angelica and she is the one that makes him realize he’s not the monster he imagines himself to be. Angelica is also haunted by her past and through Erik learns to live again. Their romance is fast paced and intense. It is a love story but romance enthusiasts might find the bittersweet ending a bit disappointing. This is the first in the Captive Souls books so it will be interesting to find out exactly how the next books play out.
This is an imaginative twist on both the vampire and the time-travel genres. The plot is intelligent, keeping the reader guessing at each twist and turn yet never able to predict what will happen next. By the time the end approaches, the final surprise takes one completely off guard. However, the problems with the book stem from the very thing that makes it interesting. All the parts that go into creating the whole seems disjointed and don't always flow well together. The reader can become frustrated quickly as confusion and frustration sets in. By the end of the book, things have smoothed out and all is understood with the "Aw hah!" moments redeeming much of the earlier confusion but the overall would have been immensely more rewarding if the threads had been sewn in a little smoother and neatly.
I am going to be unpopular here but I bought this book because of the rave reviews and high rating.
This was a busy, little book. Definitely a vampyre novel with a different perspective. Vampyre and time travel. Inner beasts with names. Oh my! We're not in Kansas anymore, Toto!
I couldn't connect with several characters. Many were not developed at all.
The love scenes were plentiful but a great big yawn for me.
I'm not squeamish ( nurse by profession ) but the gore factor was just on the 'over kill' side for my liking.
This was a very fast-paced and well-thought-out book. After the first couple chapters it was easy to figure out where you are in time. It was a very imaginative idea to put vampires and time travel together. It sounds a little odd when you read the book description, but it actually works very well in this age of technology. This book goes forward in time instead of backward like most vampire stories. By the time I got to the last few chapters I just couldn't put it down...I had to see how this was going to end. The cover says "Book One". I hope there is a "Book Two" in the offing.
