Andy's cavalier attitude about sex keeps his emotions safe, but when Knight moves Andy's heart, it's a game of trust Andy isn't sure he'll win.
The Senator has decided that interdepartmental tension can be alleviated by a week of team building camp exercises. No one is immune as the first group arrives comprising multiple government departments. Among them are FBI agent Andy Power and Detective Liam Knight.
Having met six months ago was challenging enough. After all, Andy made an idiot of himself. He's used to being the confident Fed who casually uses sex as he chooses. Some think he's too free, but Andy knows they're only seeing his persona. But Liam Knight is different. He's actually someone Andy wants a relationship with.
Liam thinks the klutz he met is kind of cute, if dorky. Yet the guy he has to partner with at camp is a bit on the cheesy side with slick come-ons and preformed ideas about Liam. Just when he thinks he can't stand the guy, Andy's mask slips away and leaves Liam breathless.
When the week is up, will Liam have cut through the bullshit or has Andy decided that trusting Liam with his heart isn't worth the risk?
I SUCK at remembering to log in and approve friends. I'm so sorry I've made some of you wait. Please forgive my apparent chill, I swear it's not intended. Come hug me!
It's sad, I really liked the set up for this story, and I found myself enjoying the characters and eager for their HEA, but the story was ultimately unfulfilling. In addition, the author made a few questionable word choices and/or turns of phrase that left me wondering if she has any firsthand experience with men who love other men at all, or if these stories are written from a more voyeuristic position. :(
I liked this book but not as much as the others I've read from Ms. Watts. I think the reason for this is because the humor I associate with her books wasn't really in this one and I missed that. However, the story is in a fast-paced setting that takes place in one week which I still found enjoyable.
Liam Knight and Andy Powell met six months before at a friends barbecue and since then, Andy hasn't seen Liam until they are thrust together into being partners at an interdepartmental law enforcement retreat. Andy's personalities are all over the place since he doesn't know how to react to Liam, the one man he seems to always make an ass out of himself in front of. Liam likes Andy, too, but only when he encounters the 'true' Andy and not all the false faces Andy falls back on when he's nervous. On this retreat, they're both afraid to open up their hearts to each other but when they do, they finally find out what happiness lies for them in the other.
Andy was definitely a fun character. Seeing him go through his different faces was interesting. One minute he was sultry and sexy, the next he was awkward and shy. I liked, though, how Liam balances Andy out and gets him to finally realize who the real Andy is.
I missed, though, the humor and I felt we didn't get a deep-down look into Liam and Andy's relationship. We only saw the very beginning of Liam and Andy becoming a couple. However, we do get an inside look at them a year later which I liked, I just wish we could have seen what Andy and Liam acted like after the retreat was over and how they coped with becoming an out couple to their separate departments. I was intrigued by another character, James, someone who's in denial, so I can't wait to read his story. :-)
Liam Knight is probably my favorite character in this series. He does really seem to have himself together. I didn't really quite see his connection with Andy. He kept saying he sees the real Andy, but I just had to take his word for it, because Andy was really annoying to me. I liked the concept of this story being staged at a team building event. I found it a little bizarre that at the end
This whole series is hard to review. All ppl involved sound and behave like a bunch of a$$holes. They are nice to the one they like and not always either.
This one was a little weaker for me. Cannot connect to these guys at all... cannot feel anything for them. Nothing good at least >.< Hope someone out there appreciates this better than I could.
**Grammar** In this 4th book we see Andy and his future lover Knight. They meet at Mack and Geo's barbecue, the same where in the 2nd book the couple told their friends and familes that they were together and going to get married. For Andy is love at first sight and like a teenager he makes a fool of himself infront of Knight. Nothing more than a talk happens btw them and they dont see each other again.
They meet again six months later when both need to attend a cop camp for team building. The other guys are jerks but Liam Knight seems to be different, he wants to be his friend. Andy just needs to ignore his feelings for the other man and survive a week.Finding out that Liam is also gay doesnt help him. Andy cant believe that Liam is gay and tells him so, Liam replies that also if he looks like a macho, likes to play football and loves his cars, this doesnt make him less gay. Idk why Andy acted like that, but he continued talking and telling Liam that he isnt gay till other ppl look at him and suspect it and in his opinion he is experimental but not gay. Well I didnt really like this speech. Liam his right to get pissed and leave him eating alone. Also if they argue, they cant stop their attraction and the fact that they are paired in the camp games doesnt help them. They start from kisses and tentative touches and then turn bolder. Liam cant understand which one is the real Andy if the one that acts like a slut or the one that teases him or the moralist and good agent part and tells him this. He goes from unintentional flirtations to sexual offers and Liam just wants to see his real self not the version Andy thinks he wants to see, bcs Liam loves that shy and kind version he is when no one is looking at him.
They continue talking and when Andy tells him that he wants him, Liam replies that also if he said this other times, this is the first time he really believes that he wants something more than sex. Andy knows that he may get hurt, but Liam tells him to trust him.
While we read about their growing relatioship we also meet James an homophobic assholes, that tries to hide the fact that he is gay and harrasses Andy, with jokes about his sexuality.
Later in the book we find out that Andy tries to hide his real self bcs when he came out to his family and friends they all left him. Andy tells Liam that if he has any doubts about his feelings for him he should stop encouraging him. Liam asks him what he means and he replies that he is able to get in his mind,to understand him, and that if he is not gonna want him he needs to stop. Liam tells him that he wants him, but Andy wants to know for how long and Liam replies that he hasnt put a date on their relationship. Finally Andy cofesses to him what happened with his family and Liam can finally understand. Here in the woods they finally make love without knowing that James is watchigng them and getting off. When James comes out from behind a tree and asks Liam if Andy forced him(what a stupid question), Liam replies that Andy is his boyfriend and that he is gay, but James doesnt believe him, like Andy said before, he seems too macho to be gay. Liam replies that he was always gay and tells the other man that also if he still doesnt understand it, he too is gay and in denial.
James doesnt want to hear what they are telling him, so he turns and runs.
In the pilogue we see Liam and Andy one year later. Liam gives him a ring asking him to marry him. For the first time in their lives they make love without a condom. They have finally found a person that really knows them and still loves them.
The book was ok, but some of their speeches annoyed me, mostly the talk about "u dont seem gay or arent gay enough". All the drama with James didnt make sense, but maybe the author felt that it was needed to put a bit of spark in the book. The plot was simple and the story really short. I liked the epilogue.

Rejection is painful under any circumstances, but when it comes from those whom you love and trust, it's devastating. It can overshadow your whole existence, tainting your judgment and causing you to retreat into a shell of apathy. However, is it better to hide behind a mask of indifference, letting everyone think you're a scoundrel just so you don't have to face rejection?
Andy Powell, in 'Knight's Fall' by Mia Watts seemed to think so, that is until he meets confident, no nonsense, Liam Knight. At this point, Andy has a choice to make; he can either continue his act and play it safe, but lonely, or take a leap of faith and allow himself to be vulnerable, giving him the opportunity to be accepted for himself. Mia Watts did a wonderful job of portraying Andy's emotional journey towards truthfulness. I liked the way she made Andy stand out, such as giving him red hair instead of something ordinary like brown. She went out of her way to show that he was special, unique even, though he hid insecurity.
Liam's tough love was amazing; he refused to enable Andy by allowing him to continue being something he wasn't. Liam had seen the 'real' Andy and wasn't going to settle for less. At the same time, I absolutely enjoyed Liam's gentle, loving side, the care that he took with Andy, letting him know how truly special he was. “And sometimes,” he whispered, stroking the hair off Andy's forehead with the softest touch. “Sometimes, when you think no one is looking, you're this amazingly gentle, kind, resourceful guy with insights into human behaviour that I've rarely seen.” Could he have said anything more heartening? I held my breath as I watched the barriers slowly, but surely, crumble and cheered wildly as the trust began to build.
I thoroughly enjoyed 'Knight's Fall'. It's a well written love story with a psychological twist, adding depth that other stories lack. I recommend it heartily.
FiveStars This was a more challenging installment of this series for me. Our two men are both openly gay, although it doesn't seem that way. One appears gay while the other is more macho making people not think of him in that light.
There were times when I wanted to grab and shake each character for their hardheadedness because they both wanted the same things, only had a much harder time getting there because of appearances and prejudices within the gay community.
In the end, things were beautiful just like all the other Boys in Blue book even though at times I really wondered if they could make it there.... And we got a bit of insight into who the next story is very likely going to be about.
I was given this in return for an honest review by Inked Rainbow Reads.
Loved this series. It was interesting to see the different descriptions of Andy in Reasonable Doubt vs. Knight's Fall. Yes I know Geo and Mack were in love with each other, so Andy wasn't described as being this greatly attractive guy, but in Knight's Fall, the way Liam sees him is totally different, and he seems absolutely beautiful. I am glad Andy got his man!
Interesting shorter story about and FBI and cop who meet at a barbecue and six months later are paired for a "team building" retreat. The majority of the story takes place during that week when they are quite literally "tied" to each other. I liked both characters and the evolution of their trust in each other.
The story was promising, but it was choppy in some areas. Jumped around a bit that it was hard to get into the story. Would have like more development to the story. Update on second reading:
It helps if you read this one in order of the series. It move up a notch with me.
So tender this story, when Andy must trust of Knight and open his heart and soul. Andy is cute and funny and openly gay while Knight seem very macho but the chemistry between two is strong. Based more on sentiments that action and sex , this book is a lovely read
Just okay. By far my least favorite of the series. I had a hard time connecting with the two main characters and it was a struggle to finish reading this one, sadly.
