In a Utopian twenty-third-century New York City, where corporations have replaced governments, AI dictates culture, and citizens are free to people-watch any other citizen they choose through an app, this horror-laden Sci-Fi Thriller follows four mis-matched coeds as they attempt to solve the murder of an eccentric parascientist. Only someone or some thing able to navigate outside the highest levels of crowd-sourced surveillance could get away with murder in this town. If the team can't work quickly to solve the case, New York will be devoured by a dark plague the eccentric had been working on prior to his death, a plague which, overtime, appears to be developing sentience.

My mind is officially blown! Death Tango was a un-put-downable read. Let me explain…
I wasn’t sure what to expect when I started this book, but once I opened it and dove in (and you really do dive in–the author plops you right into the world with little explanation, which I actually appreciated) I was hooked. Yes, it took me a little while to sort through the world-building, which the author does effortlessly. She doesn’t do some dull, in your face infodump. Nope, she she shows you the world, as if it was just a normal thing and leads you through the nuances and differences from our own. So well done.
Honestly, her writing ability is what made this book stand out for me. It’s smooth and clean, vivid and clear and checks all the boxes. It truly, clearly shows the world, the plot, the characters. It played out like a movie in my mind while I read. It’s been awhile since I’ve read such a well-written novel, and I want to make sure to give a round of applause to the author, Lachi. So well done.
The story itself is intriguing, and I could see something like it happening as we all dive deeper into the idea of living virtually. It was alternately intriguing and awfully sad. I’m not sure I like her ideas of what society could become, but I completely understand how she got there. Her future is absolutely possible.
I got very deeply attached to her realistically written, three dimensional characters. The complexity of plot took some time to sink into, but that’s a good thing. I was challenged throughout to think, and to feel and to consider and ultimately to not only try to solve her “whodunnit” but just to soak in the environment and to be intrigued and horrified by the dark, horrific world she’s created that’s covered up by what should feel more utopian. I’ve always thought that human beings with their faults and flaws, with their basic humanity, would never be able to create a utopia, and in this book I’m proven correct.
There is good and evil here. Lachi doesn’t shy away from the dark, but she also shares moments of light. And the characters become friends which, for me at least, means I’ll happily read every last word about them.
Looking for a superbly written book with a complex but believable plot peppered with characters you’ll come to love? Don’t mind a little darkness and horror? Then pick this one up. I can’t imagine you’ll be disappointed. I sure wasn’t.
I loved that first chapter, Someone. It was engaging from the beginning this book. WOW! This book is told from many POV's and I loved that about this book. The changes in the telling of the story doesn't affect the story at all and it has an excellent flow from one chapter to another. I can absolutely see that the virtual world being the way the author wrote. It seems like that's a real way we can be heading. The plot is well told and somewhat complex to follow, but this story all blends perfectly together so it works. The way that the future was written in the author's book is a real possible thing. I highly recommend this book to fans of sci-fi and horror reads with a dystopian future written into it. Y'all will really enjoy this one.
The future this book paints is horrifying in itself, add in a mysterious murder when it should be impossible to kill undetected, a possible plague on the side, and you have the perfect mix for full body chills. Lachi has done an amazing job of bringing this dystopian world to life around the reader, and dropping in believable characters (even if they live in a much different time from our own). The story itself is engaging, and has a lot of depth to it. You’ll be just as caught up in the mystery as exploring the world, and it’ll be hard to stop reading once you start.
It sucked me in and I couldn’t put it down. This was fast-paced with thrilling action sequences and plenty of suspense. It’s such an epic story. The author is very creative and draws the reader into the world around these characters effortlessly. Alexander V. Cantrell managed to heighten this with his performance with the narration. The writing is crisp, the characterization well-done, and the world very well-developed.
There is a lot of action and drama throughout this to keep you on the edge of your seat as you listen to this wonderful production. It's got a great overall theme that really comes through in the writing and story. This cover is gorgeous and really speaks to the theme well! Carve out plenty of time to slip into this world.
Loved the world the author created! Super unique ideas, can’t wait for the rest of the story! Only criticism is that it took a while to adjust to the story as it was a whole lot of information and kind of confusing at first.
Death Tango may be slow to start but once it picked up it had me in its grasp and racing to the end. I couldn’t turn those pages fast enough as I wanted to know it all and I wanted it now.
Deat Tango is filled with many twists and turns that are very helpful in keeping the pages turning. It is filled with lots and lots of suspense that kept me hooked from the first page to the last.
I loved the world that was created for Death Tango. The descriptions were so vivid I had no problem seeing it all play out in my head as if I were a character myself. Oh, speaking of characters Death Tango has a slew of them. Kudos go out to the author for keeping them all straight.
Death Tango reminded me in many ways of the movie Surrogates with Bruce Willis. The further I read and the more twists came into the picture the more I enjoyed it. I especially enjoyed reading about the infected. I do believe that Death Tango would make a great movie.
I would recommend Death Tango to all horror fans! Grab a copy of Death Tango today!
It reads like a Black Mirror episode - relatable characters living in a recognizable near-future NYC, and step by step we're taken deeper into the rot behind the consumerist corporate "utopia" that feels oh so glossy at first. What starts as a whodunnit quickly takes on a Color Out of Space -esque existential horror. We get to meet the REAL horrors of those who are prospering in this society. Then we get REALER horrors. Then techomysticism and DMT and elder gods walking among mankind, and it just fubars from there and the second half of the book leaves you wondering how it's morning already.
And all through it are these authentic, vibrant, living characters that you strangely get attached to in a "I've known them for years" kind of way. Excellent read.
