The Backway

Rate this book

What a piece of art, what a splendid book. And how hard to describe it.

So, it is a book of photographs. Perhaps not the type of table book, large and amazing that visiting friends open out of curiosity to be shocked by nice, over-filtered pictures; but still a book of photographs of adventure and suffering. But this is also a collage of texts and other materials, really moving all of them: lives but also deaths. And, as the authors say (which one perhaps doesn't matter), a collection of mistakes.

The edition is overwhelming for the senses: the sight, the reading and the touch. I just have been lucky enough for being one of the first readers in my local library. I believe the reading damage was still moderate. A few pages were torn, though: a previous, mischievous reader or the vacuum left by so many lives drowned in the Mediterranean Sea?
