No military experience necessary for this journey from the tropical island of Eleuthera, Bahamas to the frozen beauty of Newfoundland, and from the exotic Orient to old world Europe. This hilarious adventure through 26 moves in 17 years as a Navy family, is a fantastic voyage that takes each new challenge and meets it head on with the natural humor and acquired wit of the author. This is not some contrived, month-long stint for a television show! This is real-life survival! As if the "standard issue" challenges were not enough, the author is that type of person things just "happen" to naturally. Finding a stranger in the middle of the night on her bathroom floor in Okinawa, closing her dress in the door of a departing cab in Athens, and almost losing her mother-in-law to the running bulls in Spain are just a few examples of why she constantly hears, "It could only happen to you!"
This book was given to me by a friend who knew the author and her husband in Rochester, NY. Sotry reads like a diary of their military journey. Good humor and interesting to learn about life in some interesting military base areas.
This book was written by a high school friend of one of my friends. The author, a Navy wife, went through so much from 1969-1986, including 26 moves! At that time, money allowances led to awful living conditions in so many places, yet the author lived through it mostly humorously, I think! Very interesting book!
