The Heart of Tarkon

Mankind believes that he is the greatest intelligence on the Planet, and so do many others on similar Worlds scattered right across the Universe. But for some people, they know different. They know that every World is overshadowed by a Being of majestic proportions, whose impeccable intelligence and incredible power far surpass anything of the mortal kind. These magnificent entities, called Great Makers, are the Initiators of Life and its Keepers. They do not occupy thrones of grandeur, dictating with a rod of iron the daily activities of ordinary people. Instead, they are the mindful ones, carefully influencing creatures like Man on towards his highest potential.

Unaware of any dynamic influences about him, Hanor leaves behind a life of idleness when awakened to latent powers inside him. In Book 1 - The Heart of Tarkon, he is encouraged by Brandor - a man of knowledge, to travel to Tarden to help develop his potential, with a hope that he may be of use against the coming tide of evil. His loyal brother and best friend however, upset the proceedings when they follow him and his guide, Kifter, barely surviving when chased by a horned beast. Encountering a dreaded Nyshifter warns them of other perils, yet they press on. But the group is soon undone when attacked by a river monster at Boverns Crossing. A death triggers a series of remarkable events that result in the return of The Heart of Tarkon to the Freelands - a precious Stone of extraordinary power. Brandor envisions a Wall of Power of a different sort to help with the coming battle, so he sets out to convince the Masters of Mysteries in every city to create it. At the end of Book 1, the Stone’s power is unleashed when attacked by another Nyshifter - one of twelve wretched creatures leading the invasion.
