The Wild Side by Janey Chapel - Ryan’s usual hookups are “jocks and jarheads,” but when he takes a job at a beachfront restaurant during the busy Valentine’s Day weekend, he feels an immediate chemistry with Nick, an older man recovering from a nasty divorce. Ryan thinks the attraction is mutual—but “No-Dick Nick” doesn’t do one-night stands. Maybe it’s time for Ryan to rethink his standards....

Janey Chapel found a paperback romance in her grandmother's bookcase at the age of eleven, inhaled it in one sitting, and then proceeded to devour thousands of romances in a variety of genres over the course of several decades. Eventually, her husband said, "Stop reading! Start writing!" After a lifetime in the South, Janey now lives in the Northeast with her husband and daughter, where she volunteers with the PTO, struggles to adapt to actual winter, and writes fiction in her spare time.
Nicely written story about a college student waiting tables to help a friend and the quiet young man he meets there. I liked both characters and enjoyed this story. Ryan is a love 'em and leave 'em guy and Nick is most definitely not a one-night stand type of guy. Is there a chance for these two seemingly different men? Maybe the magic of Valentine's will work in their favor.
Short novella that was available for free a few weeks ago. It's available in an anthology now.
We have Ryan, happy go lucky twenty something, living his life and going through a series of hook ups in bars around campus. Ryan is not looking for anything permanent or even a second date. He meets Nick while doing a favour for his BFF Cheyenne. Nick, who's been burned before makes quite an impression on Ryan. Both of them find a way to set aside their fears and maybe try to make a go of the chemistry between them.
Short, sweet. Ryan is a lovable character. The story is told from his point of view. A solid three stars.
I enjoyed this short story – Ryan was an endearing narrator – young, carefree and blindsided by his attraction to the quiet and intense Nick. Nick is not a one-night stand kinda guy as he’s suffered past relationship angst, whereas Ryan never sleeps with the same guy twice. Over a weekend they get to know each other and give in to the intense chemistry between them.
I've read The Wild Side as a part of an anthology (Reflections of Love) and it was my favourite story in it. Ryan and Nick were absolutely great! I'd so love to read more about them!! This story definitely made me curious about other books by Janey Chapel.
Very good short m/m romance about a college student who agrees to help out a friend by waiting tables over Valentine's Day weekend. He's never been interested in seeing the same guy twice... is that about to change?
A great odd couple romance between Nick who never does one night stands and Ryan who has been bed hopping all over campus. A well written short with two very likable characters.
