Dennis William Hauck is a researcher, author, and lecturer in consciousness studies. His primary focus is on levels of awareness and the mechanisms of transformation of consciousness. He works to document the evolution of a science of consciousness and merge various philosophical and scientific traditions into a unified theory of consciousness. He has also contributed to related areas, including the history of science, psychology, and the serious study of paranormal and mystical experiences.

Hauck is considered a leading authority on Hermeticism and alchemy. According to Bernard Lightman in “A Companion to the History of Science:” "Dennis William Hauck is a prolific author and has been at the center of efforts to institutionalize modern alchemy through a number of organizations, conferences, and journals. For Hauck, classical science has its limits, in that it can explain only our physical reality, not the deeper hidden reality from which the physical stems. He decided that alchemy offered one path to that hidden reality, and so, decided to discover solid evidence and challenge the dominant Newtonian paradigm."

According to Hauck, the Philosopher’s Stone of the alchemists is consciousness itself: “The Stone exists in the formative realm between energy and matter, suspended in the twilight between what exists and what does not exist. Renaissance alchemists described the mind as a magical touchstone made from a hidden etheric substance that is distributed throughout the universe. That substance is consciousness."

Most of Hauck’s recent works focus on the application of the principles of alchemy to psychology and cosmology. His “The Emerald Tablet: Alchemy for Personal Transformation” presents new revelations about the ancient artifact that became the core document of alchemists. His “Sorcerer’s Stone: A Beginner’s Guide to Alchemy” elaborates the operations alchemists used on all levels of their practical and spiritual work. His “The Complete Idiot’s Guide to Alchemy is an introduction to all levels of alchemical work. He has also translated several important German and Latin alchemy manuscripts into English.

Hauck has been interviewed on nearly 300 radio programs, including such national shows as NPR’s "Morning Edition", “Art Bell Show” and many other programs carried by networks such as CBS Radio, CNN Radio, Talk Radio Network and the Wisdom Radio Network. He has also appeared on over forty television programs, including such national shows as “Geraldo,” “Sally Jessy Raphael,” “The O'Reilly Factor,” “Extra,” “CNN Reports,” A&E's "Unexplained", “Sightings,” “Terry Bradshaw’s Home Team,” “America's Talking: and other shows on the History Channel, Travel Channel and Discovery Channel.

If anyone has read the Story about "the Atwood House" from this particular book, ya know? The one in California. Well...I'm sad to say that both my great grandparents have passed. I remember growing up asking them about their time in that house, it was mind blowing how much "Nul" ?and my family members interacted with each other. It was always hilarious when they talked about my great grandpa getting slapped by the ghost. I'm turning thirty two and it feels like forever since I've heard either of them talk about it, especially since my grandpa passed first. I've been asking for the book from my mom since they passed cause it was the only piece of them I had left. She lost it and I've been finding it damn near impossible just to find the article with their story. That little piece of them out of ALL the roots that make up various parts of the "Atwood" tree. You can look up the name and find all kinds of people with stories. But this one article is all I'm trying to find on my folks.

Love this book. Well organized and very easy to find what you are looking for. If you want hauntings or whatever in California, New York, Ohio, etc. , you can go right to the state and look at the stories in there and see what tickles your fancy. Just a good book that could make a good travel guide if you're looking for a little something different to do on a road trip or vacation than going to the usual spots.

Not great. Missing a lot and there were some mistakes. I would have preferred more info on fewer places. Rather than a paragraph on so many places with very little info.

Two things, first, I won't count this as one of my ebook reads for the year or for that matter, a 2010 read. I started with the intention of reading it from start to finish. Finished through California, then decided it was silly to read something that is clearly designed for people traveling and looking for spooky places. Even at that, it went from fairly informative in some spots, to almost useless in others. Living in MA, I figured I oculd devote some time to the chapter, but it was sparce. Boston had some good coverage, making a point of adding the Borden house in Fall River, good, but then there were other entries, all I could think as I read was, "why bother?" because so little information was told.

A fascinating (and exhaustively researched) guide to American hauntings sure to interest the would-be ghost hunter and the armchair spook scholar alike. Capsule descriptions of hundreds and hundreds of spooky sites organized alphabetically by state and city (or town) will turn every road trip into an excursion into the great beyond. Complete with highway directions and detailed bibliography this is far and away the finest book of its kind, truly a gem!

I love this book. Any time I travel (and being in a band, that happens a lot) I take this book with me, and if we near any places in the book, we'll stop to check them out.

Even if you don't use it as a tour guide, it's still a great little book to brush up on some scary ghost stories you can share with your friends.

This is a fun, easily-digested digest of descriptions of hauntings. I intend to someday use it as a guide to determine which hotels to book in the future. ;)

Fun read! It goes state to state w short accounts of the activity and history. I liked that about it. Very creepy read, makes me want to visit some locations I haven't already been to.

Bought this 12 years ago. Went ghost and cemetery hopping for weeks here in Los Angeles. HIGHLY RECOMMEND if you're looking for something thrilling to do in late October. Covers the entire U.S.
