Literally just an aesthetic piece of history. It tells you who owned Dior and when, about them, and how they changed fashion to what it is now. I enjoyed it as a fashion enthusiast, read it in a day, and it’s very cute.

Прекрасна книга. Това е втората биографична книга за Диор, която чета. В тази има много снимки, благодарение на които можем да се потопим в историята на New look.
Интересно е, че книгата не акцентира само върху Кристиян Диор и неговата работа, но и продължава след смъртта му е като читатели се запознавам с историята на модната къща дори до днес.
Прекрасна малка книга, която ще пренесе читателя си в света на Dior и ще накара да мечтае за New look.

Papierstau-Hörer*innen, aufgemerkt: Das ist das geheimnisvolle Buch aus der Louis-Vuitton-Tasche, das ich mir im Pariser Flagshipstore gekauft habe um Zeit bis zum (verspäteten Heimflug) mit Lesen zu überbrücken. Und das war eine gute Entscheidung, denn dieses Büchlein ist nicht nur schön gestaltet und illustriert, sondern gibt auch einen sehr gut lesbaren Überblick über Christian Dior und die Geschichte des Hauses mit seinem Namen: Es erzählt vom Aufwachsen und Jugend des späteren Meisters, der besonderen Beziehung zu seiner Schwester und ihrem Widerstand gegen die Nazis, seinem Durchbruch als Designer, relativ frühem Tod und spätere Entwicklungen bei Dior bis hin zum Antisemitismusskandal um John Galliano.

Die besondere Überraschung: Von dieser Serie über ikonische Modehäuser gibt es diverse Bände, ich habe meiner Schwester den Band zu Burberry aus Paris mitgebracht. Was ich nicht wusste: Sie hatte schon zwei weitere Bände, sodass wir jetzt zusammenlegen und sammeln. Hat wohl sollen sein! :)

Δεν ξέρω για εσάς,αλλά για εμένα η μόδα θεωρείται ως μία εκ των τεχνών καί μορφών έκφρασης των διάφορων δημιουργών που ασκεί εντονότερη,ή,πιο ήπια επιρροή στην καθημερινή μας ζωή,όχι μόνο με τις όποιες προτάσεις επιτάσσει στο ντύσιμό μας,αλλά καί σε άλλους τομείς. Άν γυρίσουμε αρκετά πίσω στον χρόνο,θα παρατηρήσουμε πως από την αρχαιότητα μέχρι καί σήμερα,υπήρχαν διάφορες τάσεις της μόδας που ακολουθούσαν τόσο οι απλοί πολίτες έως καί οι βασιλείς καί οι λοιποί άρχοντες. Σαν να ήταν το μέσο που καθόριζε εποχές,κοινωνική θέση,καταγωγή,επάγγελμα μέχρι καί τις υπάρχουσες κοινωνικές πεποιθήσεις καί κανόνες. Ακόμα κι αν κάποιος/α ισχυριστεί πως δεν ακολουθεί πιστά την μόδα,χαράσσοντας τον δικό του/της δρόμο,πάλι καταλήγει στο ίδιο πράγμα.

Αντικειμενικά ο 20ος αιώνας φαίνεται ως μία από τις πιο παραγωγικές,όσον αφορά την μόδα,εποχές,αφού εκείνα τα χρόνια έγιναν η αφετηρία της εμφάνισης καί καθιέρωσης σπουδαίων σχεδιαστών/στριων,που εκτός από πρωτοπόροι/ες στο είδος τους,κατάφεραν να περάσουν στην ιστορία καί να αποκτήσουν παγκόσμια φήμη καί η συνέχεια των οίκων μόδας τους να κρατούν τα ηνία της πρωτιάς καί όλοι/ες να επιθυμούν να αποκτήσουν ένα αντικείμενο της ανάλογης φίρμας. The days of Dior's beginning were a hopeful field for a new idea of fashion to develop. On one hand, there was Chanel with her minimalistic, practical designs and radical view on what purpose fashion should serve for women. She gave us practicality and comfort. On the other, we had Christian Dior with his sensitive, elaborate romanticism, a touch of eccentrism and youthful playfulness. He gave us true craftsmanship and those after him never disappointed to keep it shining.

Mit „Little Book of Dior“ erscheint im Eden-Verlag nun der vierte Teil Reihe „Die kleine Modebibliothek“ über die bekanntesten Fashion Häuser der Welt – Chanel, Gucci und Dior haben den Anfang gemacht. Dieses Mal steht Christian Dior als kleiner Revolutionär der Fashionwelt im Fokus und die Entstehung der Marke Dior, die bis heute für Opulenz, Dramatik und Weiblichkeit steht wie kaum eine andere.

Wie sieht es aus?

Bei dem Buch handelt es sich um eine Hardcover-Ausgabe, die etwas größer als A6, aber kleiner als A5 ist. Der dezent altrosane Einband wirkt sehr feminin und zart, was zur Marke passt. Die Schrift ist schwarz und schlicht. Auch der Buchrücken ist wieder passend schlicht gestaltet mit dem entsprechenden Schriftzug und dem Namen der Autorin. Die äußere Gestaltung ist generell sehr zurückhaltend und kann mit schlichter Eleganz überzeugen. Diese schlichte Eleganz setzt sich auch bei der Innengestaltung fort: dezente Rosatäne, hochwertige Schwarz-Weiß- und Farbfotografien, ganzseitige Kapitelübergänge – das Buch wirkt aufgeräumt und durchdacht, ist abwechslungsreich und vielseitig. Die Seiten sind aus dickem, beschichtetem Papier und machen einen sehr hochwertigen Eindruck.

Was erwartet einen?

Bei „Little Book of Dior“ wird der Gründer Christian Dior genauso beleuchtet wie die Marke selbst, ihre Entwicklung und ihre Vielfältigkeit. Es ist eine gelungene Mischung aus biografischen Elementen und Sachbuch, eine historische Reise und eine vielseitige Präsentation des Bildes, wofür die Marke stand und steht. Von den persönlichen Anfängen des Christian Diors über die Kriegszeit bis zur Bildung der Marke Dior und der Vision des Looks, die dahinter stehen soll, wird auch beleuchtet, welche Prominente mit Dior verbunden sind und natürlich auch die Entwicklungen von dem Haus Dior nach Christian Dior, was ein interessanter und beeindruckender Ausflug durch die Zeit ist, bei der man so einige Namen wiedertreffen wird, selbstverständlich unterlegt mit vielseitigen Bildern und auch zahlreichen Runway-Shots.

Mein Fazit

Nachdem ich von dem letzten Band über Prada ein wenig enttäuscht war, da es sich eher wie ein Produktkatalog las, bin ich von „The little book of Dior“ wieder sehr begeistert. Das Buch ist sehr vielseitig und informativ aufgebaut, gewährt interessante Einblicke in eine legendäre Marke und kann mich vor allem auch mit den zahlreichen Fotografien begeistern, die einen schönen historischen Verlauf zeigen und auch ein wenig zum Träumen einladen. Es ist ein tolles und hochwertiges Buch gelungen, bei dem man viel stöbern und entdecken konnte, mit einem guten Gleichgewicht aus Personen, ihren Einflüssen und den Produkten von Dior. Auch die eingebauten Zitate haben mir viel Freude bereitet und das Buch in meinen Augen noch mehr abgerundet. Ich kann sagen, dass dieses Buch gemeinsam mit dem Chanel-Buch bisher mein Favorit der Reihe ist. Für Fans von Dior, Fashionfans oder auch für Leute, die sich gern mit Hintergründen befassen!

Ak máte radi módu, svetoznáme značky, odporúčam túto novú sériu História módy do vrecka, v ktorej vyšli okrem Diora ešte dve ikonické značky: a to Chanel a Gucci.
Knihy majú okolo 160 strán a je to taký obrazový sprievodca históriou danej módnej značky.

Prenesieme sa do Paríža roku 1947. Mesto sa stále spamätávalo z nemeckej okupácie Európy.
Vydávanie jedla na prídel a úsporné opatrenia ovplyvňovali všetky oblasti života, ale módny
návrhár plný ideálov Christian Dior práve otvoril svoj módny dom. Svet sa jeho prvej kolekcie nevedel dočkať. Keď potom modelky elegantne vykračovali sivými miestnosťami jeho salóna, všetci boli šokovaní. Saká v pánskom štýle s hranatými plecami a elegantné krátke sukne vojnových čias
nahradili dokonale priliehavé pôvabné saká, ktoré kopírovali krivky modeliek....

Zrodil sa Dior a toto je jeho príbeh.
Mladosť a vojnové roky. New Look. Salón Dior, Hollywood, prominenti...doplnky, vône a líčenia.
Čiže nielen história, vznik a vývoj, ale tiež cesta k úspechu luxusných značiek, ktoré dnes patria medzi najobľúbenejšie. Výborný mix pútavého textu a dokonalého výberu fotografií.
Úžasné darčeky pre všetkých, ktorí milujú módu a módne trendy. Tak ako hovorí podtitul - história módy do vrecka:-)

Things I learned:
- Dior’s Normandy home is still reflected in his work: favorite colors being the pale shade of the house and the grey shades around it
- His family had business in fertilizers and pesticides , often surrounded by nice landscapes, including many extravagant floral arrangements
- Both world Wars affected him greatly — and as able to claim he was a pacifist, anarchist and student status to get out of fighting in the first one, got called into the second one.
- Had a couple galleries and collections of picasso, dali, matise & other well known artists.
- Gallery shut down during war time because it wasn’t able to bring in $ to support (especially during the great depression)
- Started working at a fashion house as an illustrator until he got called into service, avoided active combat
- After a year in service, he returned to his impoverished father + sister to sell vegetables, had received about $1000 from photography he sold in America, and was able to return to Paris to work with House of Lelong.
- House of Lelong was being under reacquisition by Hitler’s Third Reich, as Nazis were trying to move the best fashion houses to Berlin so Germany could take credit.
- House of Lelong said it would be impossible to teach a new generation of Germans their fine craft of stitching so they were allowed to remain in France- they made attire for the Nazi’s wives
- Christian made his New Look collection alongside Lelong up until Lelong shut down his house due to health reasons.
- Christian lived with his younger sister Catherine, who married a Resistance member and she acted as a spy. She was caught and shipped off to an internment camp after being tortured for information which she never revealed. She did return back after liberation and was awarded for her patriotism and honor. Christian uses her for inspiration and muse within his work. Miss Dior is named for her.
- His new look thrived in Europe and was introduced in America as a huge success— worn by many of Hollywood’s elite celebrities and films.
- A young Yves Saint Laurent was hired on by Dior because of his exceptional sketches and tailoring that reminded Dior of his own work and had an instant hit with his Trapeze line.
- While YSL’s work was incredible, he was leading the house, but also veering off in his own ways of creativity, not aligning with Dior’s brand. Between that and being called into military service, his time with Dior had concluded.
- The company was handed off to well respected businessmen like Bohan and Simons who continued to honor Dior’s identity and created lasting longevity for the brand that is here today.

Cechy związane z domem mody Christiana Diora to nic innego jak połączenie klasyki i awangardy, pięknych sylwetek z doskonałym krawiectwem. Obeznanie z tradycją francuskiego rzemiosła, wyczulenie na najnowsze trendy w kulturze i sztuce, stworzył kreację, które przeszły do legendy i pozostają ponadczasowymi klasykami.

Nowy styl, który skrupulatnie wprowadzał spotkał się z licznymi kontrowersjami, jednakże nie przeszkadzały mu one w dalszym budowaniu kobiecości. Jego projekty opierały się w dużej mierze nad kreowaniem kształtów i podkreślaniu sylwetek.

Prekursorką tej marki stała się sama księżna Diana, która nosząc torebkę Diora otrzymaną w prezencie, dała się uwiecznić na kilku fotografiach.

Jednak jego marka to normalne tylko ubrania i galanteria, to także perfumy, które dzięki swoim kwiatowo-pudrowo nutą pokochały kobiety.
„Stworzyłem te perfumy, tak aby każda z kobiet mogła otulić się wyjątkową kobiecością. To tak, jak gdyby z każdego flakonu wyłaniała się któraś z moich kreacji”.

W późniejszych latach dołączyły również kosmetyki do produktów stworzonych przez markę, które w 90% pochodziły ze składników naturalnych. Jednak tu się nie zatrzymuje historia tego domu mody, gdyż do pełni asortymentu brakowało tylko kolorowych kosmetyków do makijażu. Tworząc swoją kolorówkę przyświecała im ciekawa idea.

Pozycja, która Wam prezentuje zawiera w sobie ogrom informacji okraszonej pięknymi fotografiami, które pomagają nam przenieść się w tamte czasy, śledzić powstawanie marki i późniejszą jej innowacje wprost, trafiając do serca kobiet na całym świecie.

Autorka idealnie wszystko zebrała w jedną całość, dając nam do ręki album, który daje nam więcej emocji, niż sama torebka Diora.

Jak widzicie, niektóre informacje nie zostały przeze mnie rozwinięte w całości, ponieważ te smaczki, a uwierzcie mi, że jest tam ich sporo, powinny zostać odkryte przez samego czytelnika. Chciałam wzbudzić twoja ciekawość dotyczącą samej osoby projektanta, bo przecież od czegoś się ta popularność zaczęła i trwa do dziś. Poznaj ten fenomen, zapraszając tę pozycję do siebie i rozkoszuj się jej tajemnicami.

I recently discovered how much I love fashion, and I'm also a big fan of history so this book piqued my interest. I have read a good amount of historical non-fiction, and I was pretty disappointed by this book. Some things that stood out to me:
Important vocab was not well explained. I'm sure there's a range of people picking up this book, but I needed more information about things like the difference between haute couture and ready-to-wear (couture is made for the specific person, ready-to-wear is...ready to wear), what exactly the "New Look" is, and what the specifics are in the "Bar" jacket.
Something else that drove me crazy was that often, a description of an outfit was written in the text, but there was not a picture of it nearby. The book has glossy pages with colorful pictures on most spreads, but relevant pictures were not included. The way it was written made you think there was some level of importance to the outfit, or at least piqued your interest in what it looked like. I found myself looking these pictures up with some frequency because there were no pictures provided.
I also felt that overall, there was an inconsistency in the depth of the information. Sometimes there were specifics about outfits, sometimes about people, and other times just more general information when I found myself wondering more.

This was a fine introduction to the history of Dior, but I left dissatisfied.

I honestly thought I wouldn’t enjoy this as much as fiction but I LOVED it. It was so interesting to learn about and here are some of my thoughts whilst reading :)


It’s really cute how he incorporated his love of flowers into his design. He is an actually king for making the illusion dresses that make the waist look thinner and the shoulders look more wearable. Most of the designs completely blew me away my favourites designs are… ( page 50, 59, 61, 122) I also love his letter collections and I thought it was really cool how you could see the ‘H’ and ‘A’ as the shape of the dresses. He was an amazing designer who designed something for everyone’s ladies needs.

“His clothes were designed to accentuate the curves that were there, and give the illusion of an hourglass figure to those who weren't naturally built that way.”

This is a small book packed with so much beauty, grace and history.
A biographical book about the life of Christian Dior, his fashion house and his clothes that emphasize feminine curves, highlighting the female body.
All his models are refined down to the smallest details. In addition to hats, scarves, gloves and shoes, jewelry is also of great importance to the designer so that he can give a complete look to his clients.
After Christian Dior, the following creative directors such as Yves Saint Laurent, Gianfranco Ferré, John Galliano, etc. also contribute to brand development.
An interesting fact is that Dior's first perfume Miss Dior appeared in 1947 and was named after his sister Christine, who worked for the French Resistance during WWII...

The Little Book of Dior is a beautifully compact celebration of the iconic fashion house. It’s both informative and visually captivating. If you’re into fashion history, especially Dior, it’s a perfect addition to your collection.

Not only does it cover the brand’s legacy, but it also gives interesting insights into Christian Dior’s life, adding depth to the story behind the designs.

The book is filled with stunning images that showcase some of the brand’s most memorable looks throughout its history. Personally, I would’ve loved it if the book was a bit larger in size, but that would naturally raise the price. As it stands, it’s charming, affordable, and offers great quality for the price. It’s a wonderful way to enjoy the history and artistry of one of the world’s most influential fashion houses.

El pequeño libro de Dior nos adentra en un viaje por la icónica casa de moda francesa, desde los orígenes del fundador, su infancia e inicios en la alta costura; hasta sus sucesores y el pasado y presente de DIOR. Es una lectura sencilla y amena, acompañada de muchas imágenes que ayudan a entender e imaginarse cada descripción, etapa y periodo que ha experimentado la firma hasta el momento. Sin ser un libro totalmente revelador, es una manera ideal de introducirse en las bases de DIOR y deleitarse con las creaciones y visiones de cada diseñador que ha pasado por la marca. En términos generales, aporta una visión muy clara e inspiradora de qué fue y por qué fue Dior como diseñador, así como la manera en la que se han mantenido a la vez que innovado sus principios dentro de la firma.

Ενδιαφέρουσες πληροφορίες πο διαβάζοντας τες νόμιζα ότι ξεφυλλιζω ενα περιοδικό μόδας και στην πορεία είδα πως η συγγραφέας του ειναι συντάκτρια μόδας. Θα έπαιρνα κι άλλα βιβλία της συλλογής πιο πολύ για τις πληροφορ��ες σχετικά με την ιστορία των οίκων και πολύ λιγότερο για το συγγραφικό ύφος τους. Διαβάζοντας το νόμιζα ότι διαβάζω κάποιον κατάλογο ή κάποιο αφιέρωμα σε περιοδικό. Επίσης ένοιωσα ότι έχει πολλές ελλείψεις απο την ιστορία. Οι φωτογραφίες μου άρεσαν αν και θα προτιμούσα να συνδέονται περισσότερο με το κείμενο που πλαισιονουν. Παρόλα τα παραπάνω δεν υπάρχουν και πολλά μεταφρασμένα βιβλία μόδας οπότε είναι μια προσθήκη στην βιβλιοθήκη μου που δεν μετανιώνω.

First of all: a beautiful decoration. But most importantly, having actually read this book it captures the basics and the essence of this haute couture house, showcasing its different eras and elements and main components that make it such a distinct and popular designer house.
I particularly like the original designs and the elements Marc Bohan introduced. At parts the book was slightly repetitive and could offer more depth, which is why it gets the 4 stars.
I will definitely check out more books on designers in this series.

I really enjoyed this book, I am not big on nonfiction books but I saw a small book about Dior and wanted to see what it was about.

in short, this is an incredibly accessible way to learn about one of the most distinct and influential fashion house of the 20th/21st centuries. It takes you through the history of the company, the founder himself, and how the house has and has not changed throughout time.

The photos are great as well.

An amazing snapshot of everything you need to know about the history of the brand. It was super digestible and explained everything fully. Had a bit of trouble following when a sentence was broken up by 2 pages of photos but I loved the photos included. It isn’t the most in depth history or the brand I imagine but it’s not meant to be (as it only took me a day to read). Wonderful intro to brand history for an avid reader and enjoyer of fashion photography.

I didn’t think I would like it this much to be honest. Brief history of the designer and the brand evolution through the years. I wish more details included but it’s good overall. I bought it to be a coffee table decor honestly and didn’t plan to read it but since all my last reads are such a disappointment so I thought to give it a read. Really grabbed my attention and found it interesting enough to finished it in one sitting.

Loved learning about Dior’s story, however I found the retrospective too brief and not critic with the not so good mlents in Dior. I’d love to have learned more detailed information about the fashion designs and inspirations in the collections but I underatand that the book works as a small overview of Dior’s history and legacy. I feel like as a starting point for getting into high fashion it works wonderfuly.

After reading Chanel, I wanted to get my hands on the other book in the collection, Thh Little Book of Dior. It was GREAT. The stories, how we are told about the differences that each designer contributed to throughout the generations and evolution of the brand was rally nice to see. Such a worthwhile series.

I love this book so much !! One of the best facts about it that you learn so much about Christian Dior and his iconic brand & it took me only 3 hours to read it !! If you are interested in fashion you should definitely read this book 🫶🏼

i found it very interesting to learn about the dior history as well as how it developed. i’m not a big fan of non-fiction but this was actually so interesting! i got a whole new pov on fashion now for some reason 🤷🏼‍♀️.

Great for learning about fashion history and just fashion in general, it’d be a cute coffee table or night stand book too, I got bored at the end but I was very captivated in learning about the history of Christian Dior.
