I’ve read a lot of books recently about elk hunting and this is truly a classic. No, this is not a modern guide for how to pack your gear, get the best tags, etc. but rather the value of this book is in discussion of history and understanding of what it means to be an elk hunter and how that has changed. It’s an older book and if you had time to read only one elk book this wouldn’t be what I recommend, but I would still stay there are great insights to gain from this book. The stories are also quite enjoyable as teaching lessons in contrast with stories in some of the other books I have read.

Good book of old hunter wisdom on elk hunting. I read a lot of books about elk hunting last fall, as I prepared to do my first solo hunts, and all together they were helpful.
