"Deep Wells, Burning Forests" is an absorbing and touching novel that tells a different, less talked about and neglected story about a country and its people involved in World War II: Ukraine.

While getting a close insight into how three Ukrainian families cope with the war, it also shows a country torn into pieces seeking for a way to liberate itself. It tells the cruel truth of how Germany and Russia fought on the back of Ukrainians, betraying them for their freedom and leaving nothing but destruction and death behind.

These three families tell their exciting, shocking and difficult stories of their fight for survival, acceptance of their identity and culture and their long way to freedom.

Beautifully written and moving yet highly informative. This book is unputdownable!

An amazing perspective on WW2 and some of the families that survived it.
