Alexandre Alarie has been the king of France for the last two years. While he was welcomed to the throne with open arms he began to notice that the ones surrounding him were as fake as the words they uttered. His reign, though brief, was being threatened by his lack of a wife. He has tried to avoid it but there was only one solution, he must choose a bride. They forced his hand so now he must return the favor. He will choose a bride not based off of status or upbringing but based on the answer to a simple What would you do if you were queen? The responses came in from every corner of the country, some responses philosophical, some vain. The woman he chose shocked them all because he chose the one that left the pages blank.
“My black side of the family thought I was too light, and my white side of the family thought I was too dark.” This is a literal quote from the book, so …. Lame and repetitive
When I saw it I was like ok let’s give a another chance and then she defend herself from a lord who said that she is a black woman replying that she is half white hahahahah girl bye as a black person (also mixed) I felt sad reading this, it was so ???????
The book has so much potential but that ruined it for me

I read this book because I saw a little excerpt from it on TikTok. I have to say that were some good parts but overall I didn’t really like the book. It was very childish to me and very cringey. It seemed like they were teenagers instead of people in their 20s. I don’t know. It just seemed very rushed. I didn’t really think that they had a lot in common. They didn’t really match well. Also him falling in love with her. Super fast was what really threw me off. I understand love it first sight but it wasn’t love it first sight. Even though this was like a modern romance, or whatever it just wasn’t good to me 😭
I haven't read a book quite like this ever. The concept was new for me and Alex and Lucie had the tension and banter that I wish all book couples have. Could not put down this one.
This relatively short book packs a lot within its pages! Queenly was a fun, fresh take from a romance novel. You will love both King Alex and Lucie, and the enjoyment is even better once they get together. 🥰 a spicy slow burn that tackles difficult concepts like the patriarchy, racism and stereotypes and arranged marriage, while still managing to feel relatively light this book was the perfect fit between novels that felt “heavy”. It would benefit from an editor as there are some grammar issues, typos and spacing inconsistencies but if you can look past that you will see this book for the romance gem that it is. Look forward to reading more by RJ Stevens!
In QUEEN.LY: A Royal Romance R.J. Stevens gives us a sweetly sensual take on the Cinderella story. King Alex has recently ascended to the throne of France, he is young and single and not thinking about marriage. However, his Council has other ideas, they feel that marriage will make the monarchy more stable. Alex is cooperative to a point; however, he would choose his bride in his own way. Alex decides to have every eligible woman respond in a letter what they would accomplish as his queen. The France depicted in Queen.LY is a patriarchal society where women have little control. Lucie comes from a common family, struggling to make ends meet. When Lucie receives the king’s directive, she sends the letter back blank, why write about a longed for future that will never happen? The blank letter intrigues Alex and he wants to meet the sender. When the defiant Lucie arrives at the palace she proves to be everything Alex did not know that he needed. But how will Alex convince the skeptical Lucie and his hostile Council that she is queen material? I really enjoyed this story and loved both characters; they were cute together!.

What can I say other than R. J. Stevens is slowly becoming one of my favorite authors to read. She has a wide range of story lines and lately left me wondering what's coming next. Super cute retelling of Cinderella spin-off, rags to riches but with a little bit of rated R to add flavor. Lucie is just an average woman tired of her society dictating how women are seen and what they can accomplish. King Alex is tired of the council saying he needs a queen. With the recent rumor going around about him not having a queen him finally handles the issue. The king decides to send out a request to all the eligible ladies around his age bracket to write an essay explaining why they should be the next queen. This request sets off an adventure of lifetime for Lucie and Alex. Join the story to see how this love story ends. Will King Alex satisfy his country by taking an unusual queen who satisfies all of him. Lucie has the brains and the sex appeal now she has to show she has spine of steel to be queen. Enjoy!

King Alex has just risen to the throne, and is reluctantly bowing to the pressure of the council to find a wife. He does in his own way, chooses Lucie, and it ruffles everyone's feathers.
Lucie Doesn't appreciate the way the new king went about looking for a wife, but when she ends up getting chosen, she eventually decides to make her mark in an unconventional way.
This was a cute and easy read. I enjoyed the characters, especially Lucie and how she stood her ground and up for herself. And I enjoyed the way King Alex responded to not only her, but others in the story. I really enjoyed the story
This book was and is AWESOMESAUCE… from the first chapter to the last. I was so enthralled I could hardly put it down. Matter of fact, I read it twice.
The chemistry between both Alexandre and Lucie is remarkable and sensational. This book will have you putting on your walking shoes, grabbing your bullhorn and shouting from every city/town “EQUALITY FOR ALL”. Girls Rule…lol…
I truly enjoyed this book, and I am looking forward to reading more.

This was….something. Tiktok bamboozled me that’s for sure. I had it in my KU library for a while and finally picked it up only to be severely disappointed. This book gave teenage boy tried to write what he thought would turn women on. The writing was chaotic at best. If it had been a full length novel there could’ve been potential but the plot was all over the place. Our FMC claimed to be super head strong and independent but then just sounded like an airhead for half the time. The whole thing felt rushed and forced. It was like a train wreck I couldn’t look away from. 😬 which explains why I barely skimmed the last half of the book.
The worldbuilding, while not thoroughly developed or explained, is interesting as it's this alternative world with old and modern concepts. It had a stronger start and early middle, too, but the story itself is lacking, as there's no development of the relationship or a "why" for their connection beyond attraction. The aquarium scene was also very confusing and hard to tell what was going on. Also, it's an aquarium - use your setting! Increase the stakes! You could've had sharks in the water or something.
I received this book as an ARC and I have to say I was impressed. It's not your typical royal romance but I loved the direction it was going in. Lucie is a fierce woman with a heart of gold and Alex is the dominant king that wants to give her the world. I love their relationship and how they handled the obstacles they faced. Love this book!
This was a fantastic and well written story by author RJ Stevens! It was steamy but not overly done and had a great storyline! You got a slow burn Cinderella like fairytale romance with amazing characters! Looking forward to reading more from this author!!.

I almost never drop books once I’m past the 50% mark but this book, that I initially enjoyed, just got so ridiculous. Let’s talk about her essentially aiding in her own kidnapping because “books” or the cringey dialogue…or anything really. It had great potential but was very poorly executed and I’m frankly a little upset that I even spent as much time as I did reading it.

These was a slow burn but it was worth the wait I like that she was a strong woman and he fine that she is just what he needed it touches on being an a mixed relationship a the problem that come up but she took with a smile so yes I would love to see more on these
The plot is weird, and the writing feels like something an inexperienced teenager wrote in a daydreaming journal or on fictionpress. I really wanted to like it, but it just wasn’t good.
This book read as if the author took every line from other romance books and put them into one. The dialogue was nauseating. Very cliche. I was going to DNF the book, but I'm a fast reader and didn't mind wasting a few hours.
Took me all of two hours to read this one cover to cover! While a bit of a short tale (207 pages) this one was quite good! A light hearted romance indeed.
I found King Alexandre and Lucie's story to be a fun story that held my interest. I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.
