Pride and Prejudice is a novel written by Jane Austen, first published in 1813. The novel explores the themes of prejudice, love, and the role of women in society. The story revolves around the Bennet family, particularly the second-oldest daughter, Elizabeth. The novel explores the consequences of judging others based on appearance or reputation rather than getting to know them. The characters in Pride and Prejudice are well-developed and memorable. Elizabeth is a strong independent woman not afraid to speak her mind. She can also be stubborn and impulsive. Mr. Darcy is a wealthy and powerful man who initially comes across as arrogant and aloof. However, as the novel progresses, we learn that he is a complex and sympathetic character with a strong sense of honor and loyalty. Other important characters include Jane Bennet, Elizabeth's older sister, who is kind and gentle, and Mr. Bennet, the girl's father, who is sarcastic and witty.
Decided to read a classic and it was sitting on the shelf. I loved Elizabeth for her candor, her honesty and her humor. She fell in love with Mr Darcy in spite of herself. She misjudged him and after stories from friends and her own observations she overcame her prejudice and he admitted to his pride. I loved it though the old English speech did take some getting used to.
Read this one in high school and just couldn’t understand the hype. Went back as an adult to re-read it while traveling in England… my my! What a difference! Jane Austen just pulls you in and knows how to tell a love story.
I listened to an audio book read my some cute(I’m assuming) little British lady and it made a world of difference. I found it hard to read because of the difference in language / wording but her voice and inflections made it wonderful. The story was better than I remembered. I love her details. Elizabeth & Mr. Darcy’s story is so similar to mine and my bf’s and I didn’t realize that until the end 😂 so glad I gave it another try after all these years. It makes a difference when you don’t have to take a stressful English text after reading it and can read it for fun!! Also, so many good witty one liners. Mr. Bennet is mt favorite character by far 🤍
