Carrier #8

Alpha Strike

Rate this book
As China grows in power and boldness, the stage is set for a second Cold War. In the South China Sea, the situation heats up rapidly when the Chinese claim the internationally disputed and oil-rich Spratly Islands. Carrier Battle Group Fourteen, under the command of Rear Admiral "Tombstone" Magruder, is sent to maintain a presence in the area. But America is not welcome in the South China Sea. The Chinese create an international incident by sabotaging their own outpost, and blaming the U.S. Then Chinese missiles fire on American jets. For Magruder, the choice is simple: allow the sea to become a Chinese lake - or fight. In the best-selling tradition of Tom Clancy, Larry Bond, and Charles D. Taylor, this electrifying novel captures the vivid reality of international combat.

"Fasten your seatbelt! CARRIER is a stimulating, fast-paced novel brimming with action and high drama." (Joe Weber)

#8 in the Carrier series about carrier based naval air power. This account of China claiming dominion over the South China Sea and ownership of the Spratley Islands, also claimed by Taiwan, Malasia, Phillipines and Vietnam, is once again pertinent as of 24-AUG-2012. Either this 1996 novel is prescient or it shows the cyclical nature of global politics.
