Ripped Dollars

Rate this book
When some people picture Philadelphia, they think of Cheesesteaks and the Liberty Bell. “Ripped Dollars” will change that perception. The story centers on Tone and Amir, two youngn’s who are their own and ready to do whatever is necessary to survive. From schemes to stick-ups, anything goes when it comes to making money. Tone and Amir are both truly reckless, living the fast life to the fullest.
“Ripped Dollars” is far from just another gangster tale. The story deals with the emotions, reasoning, and consequences that come along with living “the life.” It shows that sometimes it can be hard to separate the people who really love you from the people who are only out for themselves. Action packed, gritty, and raw “Ripped Dollars” shows readers what true desperation is all about while leading to a blindsiding surprise ending.

Ripped Dollar by Raymond Francis is a very good fast paced read. I loved the story. Young boys from the hood wanting more from their lives, but allows their greed to be their downfall. The book had many twists and turns.

This was a excellent book.

I loved the characters and the story line were very well developed

The story will capture your interest until the end. The story line flowed very well.

All in all, I would recommend this book you should add to your list of books to read this year.

Tone and Amir are roommates in Philadelphia aka The City of Brotherly Love. However neither Tone nor Amir demonstrate any love for their fellow city residents as they commit robbery after robbery in an effort to pay their bills. From drug dealers to neighborhood stores to everyday people using ATM machines no one is safe. Both boys are 18 with no high school diplomas or any marketable skill necessary to find employment. So they utilize the streets as their payday. Tone was raised by his grandmother due to his mother's drug addiction. While Amir chose to stay behind in Philadelphia in his mom's old apartment after the rest of his family relocated to Atlanta in search of a better life. The death of Tone's grandmother leaves both boys all alone with no parental guidance so after stealing enough money to make ends meet anything extra is usually squandered away on weed and women.

After a robbery goes astray both boys reevaluate their reckless lifestyles however only one of them has the desire to change. While one young man attempts to turn his life around the other one hustles harder in an attempt to nullify the sense of abandonment he feels when his partner in crime leaves him. Both boys will eventually be forced to reap what they sowed because most often when you live by the gun you will also die by the gun. Ripped Dollars by author Raymond Francis is a cautionary tale highlighting the perils of street life. Its only drawback was that at fewer than 150 pages the story was not only short but at times underdeveloped. Unfortunately this underdevelopment caused Ripped Dollars to be an ordinary read instead of an extraordinary read that it had the potential to become.

What did you like about the book?
The book entailed a significant moral message and it didn't just glorify street life.

What did you dislike about the book?
The storyline and characters were greatly hindered by the lack of development. With the proper development Ripped Dollars would have easily garnered at least 4 stars.

What could the author do to improve the book?
Mr. Francis had an excellent premise with Ripped Dollars a little more enhancement in the developmental aspects of the story and characters would add greatly to the novel.

Karma's a B

Amir and Tone are best friends that do everything together from sticking up convenient stores, robbing local drug dealers, to stealing cars. These two are on the pursuit of the almighty dollar and don't care who they hurt in the process. After a robbery gone wrong, the two friends start to reevaluate the choices they have made in their lives. But is it too late to make a change?

Raymond Francis writes a gritty, fast-paced story that will have its readers holding their breath. I did find a few grammatical errors, but it didn't stop me from being drawn into the exciting world of Amir and Tone. This book will have you reevaluating the choices you have made and continue to make in your life. Whatever you do to others will be done to you, and we all know Karmas a b....

While I was mad about some of the happenings in the book, it is the same as if I had read the story in the newspaper, but I got more insight into how they were feeling and what they were thinking. And there were parts of the book that would end up written in the paper, having people shaking their heads while they drank their coffee. That is how real this story is. It may be hood, it may have things that you can't 100% relate to because you haven't lived through that particular thing. But by the end, you have found a way to relate to the characters and you care about how it turns out. You are cheering on characters and talking to the kindle like a ghetto person screaming at the movie screen during a horror movie! While I enjoyed the book wholeheartedly, I have to say that I would love to know about was left wondering about Roc and his woman's love story.

Tone and Amir were into the fast life since they were both dropouts. Committing various robberies only to spend the money quickly and come up with another scheme. Once Amir finally decided to get his life together since he wanted more, it was cut short by his girlfriends jealous coked out ex-boyfriend. I liked the fact Tone was doing everything possible to impress Lotta and make her prom special. I can't wait to see what unfolds in part 2 and if they will both hold on to their ripped dollar.

Noooooooooooo, it can't end this way, awww well maybe it can. Everything for the best. Will this ripped dollar stand the test of time? Well I am patiently awaiting part 2. Author Francis did a great job of giving me drama, fast-paced street hustling material and still managed to stir up a love story in there. Love it. Great job! 4.5 stars overall!

Ripped Dollars by Raymond Francis focuses teenagers Amir and Tone. The teens conduct schemes and set-ups for fast cash. The first part of the story is dull, confusing and drags; however, it pick up somewhat midway. It appears to be thrown together. There are grammar errors. This particular read does not reflect the author excellent writing skills. Overall, it is OK!!
