A children's book depicting multicultural friendships & exploring family diversity. Armetha, a 5 year-old girl, begins her search for the common bond among families, by asking her friends, "who is in your family?"
“Is Your Family Like Mine” is a story about a five-year old girl who has two moms. This simple and repetitive story repeats the message that love is what makes a family. Armetha’s friends come from all types of families- including single parent and foster parents. The message is perfect for young readers because it really emphasizes that “love makes a family and it is love that makes all families like hers.”
This book shows a childs journey to find out about other childrens families and findout more about hers. Her name is Armetha and she whats to know from other children "Who is in your family?" She learns about a wide variety of familiues, such ad single parent families, foster families, and more. This is shocking to Armetha because she has two mothers. Therefore, finding out about having a father was sort of a shock for her. She then goes back home to talk with her moms and find out that she has a father, but she is raised by the two mothers. I think this opens up children's eyes to more than one typically family. It also bring in curiosity from the reader to find out about their friends families. I think this is a good book to introduce different types of families.
In this book, a 5 year old girl named Armetha has two mothers who raise her. She begins to become curious about other families and asks all of her friends “Who is in your family?” She quickly becomes aware that all of her friends come from different families; some are nuclear while others have a step parent, single parent or foster parent. Armetha and her friends decide that while their families are different, their common bond is love, and that is what makes a family. This is great to introduce to a group of children from different backgrounds to help them relate to one another.
