Love J.B. and his music even up to his latest album. However this book is more of a chronicle of dates about his various appearances and albums. I would like to have read more about him as a person and his relationships with the other artists of that generation. Would only recommend for diehard J.B fans.
"Looking through some photographs I found inside a drawer I was taken by a photograph of you There were one or two I know that you would have liked a littlemore But they didn't show your spirit quite as true You were turning 'round to see who was behind you And I took your childish laughter by surprise And at the moment that my camera happened to find you There was just a trace of sorrow in your eyes
Now the things that I remember seem so distant and so small Though it hasn't really been that long a time What I was seeing wasn't what was happening at all Although for a while our path did seem to climb When you see through love's illusions, there lies the danger And your perfect lover just looks like a perfect fool So you go running off in search of a perfect stranger While the loneliness seems to spring from your life Like a fountain from a pool
Fountain of sorrow, fountain of light You've known that hollow sound of your own steps in flight You've had to hide sometimes, but now you're all right And it's good to see your smiling face tonight
Now for you and me it may not be that hard to reach our dreams But that magic feeling never seems to last And all the future's there for anyone to change, still you knowit seems It would be easier sometimes to change the past I'm just one or two years and a couple of changes behind you In my lessons of love's pain and heartache school Where if you feel too free and you need something to remind you There's this loneliness springing up from your life Like a fountain from a pool
Fountain of sorrow, fountain of light You've known that hollow sound of your own steps in flight You've had to hide sometimes but now you're all right And it's good to see your smiling face tonight
Fountain of sorrow, fountain of light You've known that hollow sound of your own steps in flight You've had to struggle, you've had to fight To keep understanding and compassion in sight You could be laughing at me, you've got the right But you go on smiling so clear and so bright"

This book is an excellent reference for his recordings. It gives dates , times, musicians, studios, everything except the life of Jackson Brown. I really didn't know too much more about him after I read the book than I did before I read it. The title should have been My Life in Music, not my life and music. I somehow got the feeling that Jackson Brown really didn't want a book written about him. There really isn't more than a few paragraphs of his actual words about his life and his music; and they were taken from old interviews from music magazines and showbusiness mags like PEOPLE . I was disappointed after reading this book. I thought I would finally find out something about a very low key guy. I was wrong. If you want to know what a particular song meant, this is your book. It gives a review for every song he released up to the time of the publication of the book. This is NICE . However, the book is not a great book on an important album oriented Classic rocker and California Country rocker from the L.A. music scene. It Should Have Been. 3-1/2 stars for Jackson Brown.
This book captures Jackson up to 2005, and includes his newest album, and his introduction into the rock n' roll hall of fame. I liked the book a lot, and found out a lot more about him than I knew through his music.
If you don't know much about Jackson Browne then this is a very good book as you'll find it very informative, but as with all these books it draws on various interviews that he has done over the years. So if you have follwed Jackson's career through the decades you may not pick up a lot of new stuff.
