Does a book ever make you so angry AND sad that you can't even fully comprehend your emotions? This one is like that.
I was unbelievably angry at almost every character here, which just proves the point that Aitmatov masterfully depicts the ugly sides of people. I basically hated everyone except for Momun and the MC, for obvious reasons. I just felt so bad.
I loved the pacing, everything made sense, each scene was so "fluid." What I didn't fully understand is the name of the book itself, I still can't comprehend why THIS name, and while there's certainly an importance in Ақ кеме in the narration, still....
What made sense and broke my heart is that the main character doesn't even have a name. He was so "insignificant" in the eyes of all adults around (yeah, everyone, by the end especially) because everyone was "too busy" with their lives to pity a child like him. He was lonely (his stone-friends), he was hopeful (the white ship), he was just too bright for a world he lived in.
Left me quite speechless, I might say. I didn't cry, but this created a hurricane of various emotions in me.
