I’m a full-time photographer and author, with books published through Peachpit Press, Craft&Vision, and also self-published titles. I love all things photography, and enjoy photographing landscapes, food, and also travel as much as possible.
I also have an online store, where I sell post-processing tools, such as preset, actions and textures, along with some of my own self-published eBooks, all at very affordable prices. To take a look, please head on over to the Nicolesy Store — http://store.nicolesy.com.
Nicole Young has written a very good introduction to the Canon 60D camera and how to move well beyond taking snapshots to really creative images. Her knowledge of the Canon 60D is evident as she gives the reader a very good working knowledge of the multiple options on the camera and how to best use them for optimum results in a variety of photographic settings. Well work the space on any photographer's bookshelf.
I found Nicole S. Young's book very helpful. It is a welcome addition to the manual that came with the camera. Whereas the manual provides technical information, Nicole's book speaks to the photographer trying to figure out how to best use the camera.
I would have enjoyed more discussion about the relationship between aperture settings and shutter speed when it comes to focus. I think the two Automatic Focus buttons on the camera along with pressing the shutter button halfway down as another way to focus create a lot of confusion when the photographer needs to make split second decisions when wanting to stop motion. The book provided more helpful information on this subject than the manual and answered a lot of questions.
The style of the book was easy to follow and the step-by-step instructions for each action was helpful. I would definitely recommend this book. It is not meant to be a quick read but a book that one keeps by their side with their camera. I will consult Canon EOS 60D: From Snapshots to Great Shots many times in the future, which makes this a worth while purchase.
When you spend that much money on a camera, it really is pinching pennies not to buy a reference book on it. The free kindle preview covered a couple of great tips that I didn't know, and certainly were useful, so I bought the book and am working my way through on my iPad and the camera in my other hand
Definitely taught me how to use my camera well. I read this book page by page with my camera by my side. I followed along changing settings on my camera and learning how to properly use it. Because of this book, I developed a greater understanding of aperture, shutter speed and ISO, I know how my camera works and I will never use "auto" again.
