This leading feminist theologian offers an exciting introduction to a most creative field of biblical interpretation which the author says is best understood as the search for Divine Wisdom. She offers a review of the art that is not merely informative, but liberating. Challenging mainstream hermeneutic strategies she empowers us to think critically and enter creatively into a life-transforming journey.
Born Elisabeth Schüssler in Tășnad, in the Transylvanian region of the Kingdom of Romania, Professor Schüssler Fiorenza is a German feminist, theologian and Professor of Divinity at Harvard Divinity School. Schüssler Fiorenza identifies as Catholic and her work is generally in the context of Christianity, although much of her work has broader applicability.
Good book, though its definitely not the most accessible, despite Fiorenza's stated interest in making it that way. I came back to it after reading three other books in the genre (and completing the better part of a class on feminist biblical interpretation) and found it much less taxing to read.
This book offers a comprehensive understanding of Schüssler Fiorenza’s mature thoughts, despite its repetitiveness. Readers may directly go to the last chapter after reading the introduction and they won’t miss anything essential.
Helpful book, but fairly heady/dense/academic. I think it would be really good, as the beginning of the book suggests, to do with a peer or group - the exercises at the end of each chapter would be really good in that context. Definitely a good resource & reference, just a little cumbersome to get through.
