What can I say about Someone’s Watching a novel by Sharon Potts? I can say a lot. I will start with this is the first time I have read this author and I was very impressed. I found this book to grab my attention from the very beginning. I have to admit I felt is got a little slow for a moment or two, then I will say I hit the middle and I could not put it down. This book’s ending gave me a surprise. This book is full of murder mystery, loss and found family. You will meet the main character Robbie Ivy. She is very likable and all she wants is a simple way of life. She is content with her job at the Garage a bar where she is a bartender. You will several characters from her bar. Her life is all but simple. The other main Character is her half sister Kate. She is a high school senior who finds her choices to be not so fun after all and costs her someone dear to her heart. I gave this book four and half stars. I rate the books I read on a scale of 1 to 5 stars, with one being the worst and five being the best I had to put this book down to deal with a busy time in my life and would find myself wondering what happened in the story. I could not wait to get back to it. I believe this is the second book Sharon Potts has written. I plan on reading more of her writings she is that good. I must let you know that I won this book from the website The Library Thing. This is where I have to tell you that the review I have written is my own opinions. If you like a fast paced story give this a try you. I truly think you will like.
Sharon Potts is a well-deserved award winning mystery/suspense/thriller author. Someone's Watching sucks you in and doesn't let go until you have turned the last page. Her characters are well developed, plot complex, pace is fast. It kept me up way past midnight each night until I had finished. If you have a choice, read In Their Blood first - it's a precursor to Someone's Watching, though both books can definitely stand alone on their own merits. I can't wait to read her latest release, The Devil's Madonna and her two humerous books, South Beach Cinderella and Goodbye Neverland.
I really enjoy mystery novels and this one did not disappoint. It took me a while to figure out who was behind the murders, but I finally did. But the ending was still a surprise. I recommend this book if you are into mysteries. It is very worth reading.
Robbie Ivy thinks that she has her life simplified. No longer a CPA she is now a bartender who makes jewelry on the side. Jeremy Stroeb who played a big part in Robbie’s life has gone his way and Robbie has gone hers. She is dating other people and feels she has her life running smoothly without the need of family or close relationships.
Robbie’s father left her mother when she was a child and she hasn’t had any connection with him since that time. Suddenly Robbie’s father is knocking at her door and begging her to help him. Robbie is shocked when her father tells her that she has a sister, Kaitlin Brooks. Kaitlin, whose friends call her Kate, is missing. Kate and another girl left their group of high school friends and have not been seen since. Robbie ignores her father’s pleas and decides this situation is not her problem.
Then Kate’s friend’s body is washed up in Indian Creek. Robbie has a friend on the force that she met when she was working with Jeremy to find his parents murderer. Detective Judy Lieber is working on the disappearance of the two friends. Robbie decides that she must find her sister.
Robbie begins her search by handing out flyers and following Kate’s friend’s facebook page. Although Robbie works as a bartender, she has avoided the South Beach hotspots. Robbie agrees to hit the club scene with Brett, the person she has been dating. It doesn’t take long for Robbie to see that Brett is not really the person she thought he was and his friends are not people that she would care to be involved with.
Robbie enlists Jeremy to help her in her search for her sister even though she is still bitter against the father who left her. The search takes the two into a world of blackmail, drugs, and prostitution and places their lives in jeopardy.
This is the second novel for Sharon Potts that includes Robbie and Jeremy. Her first book “In Their Blood” tells another story that is referred to occasionally in “Someone’s Watching”. It is not necessary to read the first book in order to enjoy the second book. The suspense builds in “Someone’s Watching” to an exciting and surprising conclusion.
Someone's Watching is a fast paced murder mystery, and it is not like every other murder mystery. Sharon Potts knows how to take her readers on a whirl wind of a roller coaster ride. From page one she has readers hooked all the way to the very last page.
Robbie Ivy has liked living her simple life in South Beach. But one day, she learns things about her life that will change everything. Her father, whom she has not seen for years, comes knocking on her door. She finds our that she has had a half-sister for 18 years, and she never knew this. As the investigation is under way, Kate's friend is found dead. This causes panic among Kate's family. Robbie and her friend Jeremy, are still on the hunt to find Kate. Along the way, they uncover more then they bargained for and get mixed up with the wrong people. Bodies turn up dead, secrets begin to unfold, and the pieces start to come together. Will Robbie be able to find her sister and have the family she has always wanted?
I won this book from Goodreads and am so glad I did. I could not put this book down. From page one I wanted to know what happened to Kate and her friend. From start to finish this book kept me interested. I loved Robbie's determination to find her sister. She just found out she had a sister but she still would do anything to find her. I loved the twists and suspense in the book. Ever time I thought I knew who was involved, something else came up that made me doubt it. It's not until the end where everything comes together. I love reading books like this, because once you finish, you can go back and put together all the pieces of the mystery. You can see how everything, even the little things, played a part. This was an amazing book and I recommend it to anyone who enjoys a suspense filled novel!
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
First sentence: “He was staring at her cleavage and she tried to be cool, like she did this kind of thing all the time.”
P. 99: “But she no longer had a clear recollection of what he had looked like when she was a child.”
Last sentence: “She knew he wouldn’t let go.”
Again a fun, quick read, and a pageturner. Robbie Ivy sees her father again after 18 years and he tells her some shocking but also exciting news that starts a series of events that gets the adrenaline up.
Although I never had any interest in going to Florida, where the story is set, Potts describes it in such a way that I thought of getting on a plane immediately to see it and feel the atmosphere there for myself (or is this perhaps caused by the lack of sun and warmth here in Belgium at the moment?).
Anyway, I loved this book and read it in two days. When you are looking for a fun read, don’t hesitate, read Someone’s Watching!
Whew! What a wild ride this one was. Couldn't put it down!!! Non-stop action, and suspense from beginning to end. Robbie (Roberta) is a former CPA now bartender living in South Beach, Florida. Unbeknownst to her, she has a half-sister, Kate, from her father who left her and her mother when she was young. Her father shows up at her South Beach apartment saying Kate and her friend Joanne came down to Miami and are now missing. Robbie helps to try and find this half-sister she's never met searching the South Beach club scene and the Keys. "Someone's Watching" alright and it's not someone that Robbie expects. Sharon Potts is a writer that I will be keeping my eye on. Can't wait for her next book!
This is the first book I read by Sharon Potts. This book kept me interested from the beginning to the end. I loved the main character Robbie she could be a good detective. I love that this book is a page tuner & the ending shocked me. Once you start reading this book you won't be able to put it down. I brought this book when it was free but it is definitely worth paying 3.99 for. I would definitely read more books by this author.
If you like a good mystery with a lot of suspense then this is the book for you. Robbie hasn't seen her father since she was a child, and now he is. He says she has a sister that she has never met, and that she has gone missing. Why should Robbie care? What did he expect her to do about it anyway? Well, having a sister might not be so bad, but she would've know unless she did find her. From there things start to get really interesting. A good read.
The story of Robbie Ivy and her search for her half-sister that she never knew she had. Her estranged father drops with information about her half sister who is missing. Robbie and her on again, off again boyfriend begin the search. This isn't great literary work but it is an enjoyable read that keeps your attention.
Robbie Ivy has family but he does want to get to know them. Her has a sister that he never knew existed. She is one of the missing girls. Her was still quiet hesitant to get involved with her family until the body of her sister's friend wash up in Indian Creek. Now she desperate to find her missing sister.
SOMEONE'S WATCHING is a thrilling murder mystery that doesn't let up until the last page has been read. Sharon's unique writing style makes for a pleasurable way to spend the day. With an unrelenting plot and favorable characters, this book is sure to be a big success.
After her teenage sister disappears in South Beach, Robbie Ivy starts her own investigation into the glitzy -- and sometimes dangerous -- club scene. This book had its ups and downs, and I wouldn’t recommend it for more than a light beach read.
A nerve wracking tale as the book drags the reader into emotional involvement through Robbie and he glimpses into the life of the missing Kate. It is incredible how the author has made me want to scream at the characters that Kate is right there!
Loved, loved, loved this book! I was hooked straight out of the gate. I am actually currently producing the audiobook version of this book. This will definitely be one book I keep close at hand. Terrific storytelling!
Despite the fact that there were way (way, way) too many coincidences in this book, I enjoyed it. The writing needs to be sharpened a bit, but the storyline was interesting.
