One of the best from the splendid Victorian series introducing intelligent non-specialist readers to the classics. 180 pages of warm engaging talk from and about Lucian (born in Syria circa 120AD but living in Greece). Lucian was an ironist and humorist and can tell you a good deal about the gods (though it helps if you know a little bit beforehand).

(enter MERCURY, very hot, with a large company of Ghosts.)

this book is a fucking BOP and has a herd of angry toddler gods bickering and buying slaves and general ruckus.
