My brother told me to read this to help explain the why and how of 75Hard, which he and I are doing together (I’m admittedly doing 75Medium, which the author would not like or accept, I’m sure). There was a lot of fluff in this book, it could have been 100 pages shorter, and was written like a tough-guy blog, with lots of cussing and meandering stories that he eventually would use as analogies for why we need to be mentally tough. That being said, there were some good nuggets of motivation, like “Your actions follow your focus”. The last half of the book breaks down how you will feel in later sections of the challenge, so I will likely want to go back and read that when I’m experiencing the fatigue and monotony from the program. Thanks Payton T. For the rec :)

I started the 75 Hard challenge this fall and borrowed the book from my brother to get more insight from the creator of the challenge. I gave this a 2 star because it wasn''t bad enough to need to stop, but it was pretty rough.

First of all Andy Frisella hounds on the importance of paying attention to the details, not letting the little things slide, and he has a point, but then proceeds to allow a published book riddled with typos. I wouldn't usually mind typos if it weren't for that fact. It was hard for me to not dismiss his word for bullshit at that point.

Obviously that's a small issue, but the general style he used was to talk about an aspect of the challenge and find a random analogy that it REALLY seems he pulled out of his ass last second. It just felt like such a sloppily put together aggregation of things he has said and many literal copy and pastes of articles (of course these could have originated in the book but they read as articles so I am making that assumption)

I appreciate what Andy did building this challenge, and I think it makes sense for a book to exist as a guide to the challenge and some context of why he made it, but there should've been more thought in my opinion

5/5 I normally don’t read self help books and I’m glad I read this one. He made me laugh really hard and was relatable. 100% need to stop listening to my bitch voice.

I didn’t finish 75 Hard by Andy Frisella. I got a little more than half way through While it’s not a bad book, it’s extremely narrow in worldview and clearly written for a very specific type of person.

Andy prides himself on being “blunt,” but much of the tone comes off as dismissive and unnecessarily shaming. What he frames as tough love often reads as contempt, especially toward people who struggle with discipline, health, or consistency.

My main issue with the 75 Hard program is the lack of context. Andy has prioritized fitness and discipline since his teens, yet he presents a 75-day, zero-flexibility challenge as something anyone can simply decide to do if they “try harder.” For people who haven’t lived that way—or who have struggled with motivation for years—this approach is unrealistic. You wouldn’t take someone from the couch and expect them to run a 5K on day one.

He also completely dismisses 75 Soft or any incremental approach, which I find harmful. Progress doesn’t have to be extreme to be valid.

Overall, this book will resonate with people who already share Andy’s mindset, but it’s unlikely to appeal to or support the average reader looking for sustainable change. Two stars—not terrible, just very limited.

Excellent challenge and accompanying book. Andy comes off as a “tough guy bro” a lot of the time, however you can’t deny his work ethic and most of the advice is solid.

4 stars because there is a lot of unclear parts of the rules, and readers have to follow up with his blog and/or Q&A’s on his website or the subreddit to get clarification. Many people will “fail” the 75 hard challenge not realizing things that aren’t explicitly stated in the rules that he has clarified elsewhere, such as he requires at least 3 hours between the two 45 minute workouts.

Regardless, the challenge is incredibly fun and hard, provides great results, and leads to some hilarious consequences. For example almost everyone I know, myself included, that has finished 75 hard has a story about walking at 2am in a rainstorm because the day went to crud at work, or a busy travel schedule with flight delays had you locked inside an airport for an extra 5 hours of delays meaning you couldn’t complete your outdoor workout until later…. But those moments of suck are what absolutely make the challenge.

Lots of repetitive info and definitions to very basic buzz words when it comes to personal development. I wish it delved more into the actual day to day program - I didn’t even know what 75 hard entailed (besides what I’ve seen influencers post about) until I saw the five rules listed out on the back of the book. It’s still motivational material and good to read - I highlighted and tabbed some parts and there were definitely portions that resonated with me. It’s just very surface level - at the end there are journaling prompts and different people experiencing difficulties - I’d love to see anecdotes from people who have done 75 hard vs read about someone who failed at their tech business or had a sedentary job.

"If female police officers weren't wearing a badge, you could punch a hole in their f****g face. They make you feel like a bitch"
(Not a quote from the book but words said this week in 2024)

I wish I could give negative stars! A poorly written rambling and typo-ridden mess of toxic masculinity.

KILL KILL KILL!!!
Mental toughness.
I get it but what is under his "mental toughness" is a lot of fragility and hatred towards women.

I appreciate the 75hard challenge but it's hard to separate the art from the artist on this one.

I read this book because I thought it was really going to go in depth about the 75 day program. There were some good helpful tidbits of advice, motivation and ideas to get you started. However, it was written like a (not so great) essay and kept repeating itself over and over. I ended up skimming most of it because I already knew what it was going to say. If you’re thinking about doing the 75 hard challenge, just do it and don’t buy this book.

It’s a good guide for those starting the challenge. I’ve done the challenge and really appreciated it. I’ve heard you can listen to the podcast and it’s almost the same thing…I’m hearing impaired and can’t listen to podcasts and books so I’m grateful for the physical copy to read. I didn’t appreciate the F word in every few sentences, I don’t see the reason to say such an awful word that much or at all really.

Such a great resource for those considering starting the 75hard challenge! I completed 75hard for the 1st time 2 years ago and never read this book. I now have a better understanding behind the challenge and the daily tasks, plus a little motivation!

It is a little explicit so know that going in, but totally worth it!

If you are thinking about starting 75hard this is a must read, and I wish you the best of luck over the next 75 days!!

This book was definitely something that explains the program in detail- BUT, if you listen to his podcast on the 75 hard challenge, then this book is almost an exact repetition of that.

It does give more back story on Andy himself, and I appreciate that. But again, that’s all something that’s easily learned in his MFCEO podcasts! (For free! 😉)

This book is littered with basic spelling and grammar errors. I’m not sure if there was an editor or if anyone in this man’s life who claims to seek discipline knows basic English rules, but the book is self-righteous and a bit ridiculous. Having done 75 Hard, I say this about the book having benefitted from trying the challenge immensely and having benefitted from the book almost negatively.

The concept is good, but delivered in a very tough guy manner. If you’re not a fan of swearing, you probably won’t enjoy this one - averages about 3 swear words per page. I’ve learned the same ideas about self discipline in more eloquently written books.

The book itself wasn’t bad, it just wasn’t wonderfully written. However, the point is to thoroughly explain the 75Hard program and it accomplishes that. It got me excited about making some lifestyle changes, so it was motivational and worthwhile.

It was quite repetitive, however it was a quick read and I really enjoyed the stress management and building deeper relationships chapter. I think I’d read again just as a good reminder!

Read the book; completed the challenge. My only complaint is all the grammatical errors and misspelling. But I love Andy, he’s a true bad ass.

Speaking as a really big fan of the 75 hard challenge, do yourself a favor and skip this. Just go listen to his podcast about the program instead.

Quick read. The program looks like a good challenge, the book is just a bit annoying to read - lots of tough language meant to motivate. Might try the program and test it out.

"75 Hard" by Andy Frisella is a game-changer for anyone looking to level up their mental toughness and discipline. Frisella's no-nonsense approach to self-improvement cuts through the noise and delivers a straightforward blueprint for success. The program's combination of physical challenges, diet discipline, and daily mental tasks pushes you to your limits and forces you to confront your excuses head-on. While not for the faint of heart, "75 Hard" is a powerful tool for anyone ready to commit to their goals and transform their life. Just be prepared to embrace discomfort and come out the other side stronger than ever.
