SHE'D FALLEN FOR THE BOY NEXT DOOR... Orphaned as a girl, raised in her wealthy stepfather's mansion, Kate Quinn never quite fit in anywhere...until she ventured across the neatly--trimmed hedge an met Ethan Winston, a boy whose smile seemed to welcome her home at last.
HE'D NEVER FALLEN FOR HER... As legal guardian of her half-sisters, Kate must raise them alone just like Ethan is raising his young daughter--alone. It's sensible to join forces, in name only, with the man she had once imagined as her husband
SO OF COURSE THEY'RE GOING TO GET MARRIED! Kate now has everything she's always wanted. Yet she can't help remembering her long ago dreams, and yearning for something more with Ethan. Something built not out of necessity, but true passion--and the kind of love she can call her own...
For as long as she can remember, Joan Hohl has always wanted to be a writer. Her mother said Joan had her head in the clouds, always daydreaming. The only thing was, Joan's daydreams had plots!
She is a popular U.S.American writer of over 60 romance novels since 1980. She also signed her novels as Paula Roberts and Amii Lorin
This was a terrible book. Don't even waste your time on it. I picked it up for free from a care package while I was in Afghanistan. I can see why the previous owner gave it away! I understand that romance novels can be full of steamy sex and well, romance, of course. There was not much steamy sex in this novel, it was just cheese. And preachy, at that.
The basic premise is, and beware of spoilers (although, I think I am sparing you, really), was a man and a woman who grew up together fall in love. She has saved her virginity and loses it to him and she wants no one else. He falls in love with her, too, but there is the problem of the one night stand he got pregnant. The woman he had a one night stand with wants an abortion, but he begs her to keep it. They get married and agree that she can leave a few months after the baby is born. Long story short, she ditches him and the baby and he falls "madly in love" with the lead female character and they have their own baby and "live happily ever after".
The plot and the author’s execution did not go well together at all. It just didn’t do anything for the barely romantic plot in this sense. In the beginning, instead of showing us, we basically are told about their blooming friendship/romance in random flashbacks from his & her POVs. It was dull & seriously repetitive at times. The author took her pleasure in spelling everything out for us to the point of making it impossible for me to get invested or truly intrigued of what could have gone wrong for these two “lovebirds” to fall into this bittersweet reality. So, while there was angst, there was no real angst/suspense to how things fell apart between them. We learned too much & too fast, from all corners to the why’s & how’s of their budding romance. Frankly, once we got passed these flashbacks stuff, there wasn’t much left going on for them in present day. No love over the horizon because dude is a married man!!! For me the book was over before it really started. We were already spoiled, the book went from zero to Nero. There was a lot of page fillers, as life must go on for both ill-fated party. Not to mention, it strikes me wrong that at one point hero was mentioned that he was going to propose to another woman, too & no it wasn’t the wife-to-be but a gf he was “fond” at that time. Oh, dude, are you sure you’re in love with the heroine? Because honestly, your love is whack!
All in all, nothing seems to go well for this storyline. Characters were not true to fit, seemingly out of their molds. For all the love he claimed, he was sure was all over the place with his lusts & decisions. Technically, hero & heroine were better off moving on. They’re a case of friends should stay friends or ships just passing through the nights. She should have met a new man & he should have ended up loving his ONS/pregnant wife, although the child was not his??? Idk, didn’t care to read further to find out.

It was a really good book. A bit slow at first. One thing that is baffling is that on the back of the book, it says the guy is raising his daughter. This is not correct. He is raising his son, Bobby by himself. Other than that, it was a great book.
I like this book. I love the characters and the plot is interesting if a bit predictable, which tends to be the case with books like this. I found it to be a sweet and sexy romance.
